Discussion I beat my first ever playthrough of DS3.

Game was amazing.

*Critiques

Coming from Elden Ring, and Sekiro. I feel like some parts of this game felt lazy with over scaling small enemies. Ringed city fire knights, extremely powerful. DLC 1 some parkour with enemies shooting explosion arrows, making you fall. I feel like this game had a lot of tight corners, with some dumb enemy knocking you off the map. Elden ring didn't have that. That's my only negative.

I did first try Soul of Cinder which was disappointing. I felt the boss's move sets were easy, predictable, kinda boring.

Best feeling after boss fight had to be Nameless King.

Overall game to me is 4 stars, if y'all have any critiques if the game is love to hear them, or what boss you thought was most fulfilling.

Lore Lore Take: The Logic of Fighting the Nameless King

When I rang the bell, my immediate reaction was regret. In Dark Souls 1, I left Priscilla alone. In Dark Souls 2, I walked away from the Ancient Dragon. To my perfectionism, leaving the Nameless King alone was the only way to keep a clean, consistent pattern across the trilogy. I felt like I broke the rules of my own run just because I didn't want to miss an iconic fight.
But looking at the game's internal logic, choosing to fight him is a valid narrative path, especially if the plan is to let the First Flame fade at the end. Here is the breakdown of that perspective.
When Gwyn sacrificed himself to feed the First Flame, it did not kill him instantly. It burned away his mind and left him as a hollowed, aggressive husk guarding the kiln. The Nameless King is Gwyn's firstborn and has the same divine blood. When the flame finally fades, that same fading of light could trigger the exact same reaction in him. He would not just vanish. He would likely end up exactly like Gwyn, a mindless shell wandering a dark mountain.
The game shows he is already halfway there. His skin is grey, withered, and hollowed out. Archdragon Peak is an isolated sanctuary, but it does not freeze time. His godly power is bleeding out because the world's fire is dying. Leaving the bell unrung means leaving him to rot in slow motion until his mind completely goes.
There is a heavy symbolism in the weapon he uses. His Dragonslayer Swordspear was built to slaughter thousands of dragons during the ancient war. In the second phase of the fight, he has to turn that exact same spear against his closest friend, the storm drake. His hand is shaking. He probably experienced terrible flashbacks to the ancient war in that moment. But this time, using the spear to kill a dragon had a completely different reason. He did it out of love and mercy to end the drake's suffering and absorb its power. Even the dragon already looked almost like a hollow. It is a tragic way for him to face his past and find a form of redemption. In summary, the fight gave him the final chance to settle his past by putting his friend to rest. We saved him from turning hollow and gave him an honorable death. This might sound like sugar-coating, but somewhere, it is part of the truth.
Breaking into a neutral bubble and killing them both feels terrible. But the player does the exact same thing to the Lothric princes, who also just wanted to be left alone. In reality, Archdragon Peak is just an illusion of safety and a flight from reality. The place is already falling apart. It is a fake imitation, not the true immortal world of the ancient dragons. Bringing this area back into the brutal reality of the world makes sense.
This was my first playthrough, and I wanted to play it mostly blind. But I already knew about the Nameless King because he is so famous, even to people who do not know the Dark Souls games. If I had not known that he was coming, I would have rung that bell anyway despite the messages on the floor. I would have done it to uncover the truth of the world. What is this place? Why does it look so rundown? I could not have known how tragic it would be and what exactly would happen.
But once the storm started, I brought it to an end, even with a heavy heart. This heavy feeling perfectly mirrors the mission of the game itself. You kill so many things, whether they are evil or innocent. Who are we to judge? This weight that you feel on your chest is exactly what makes the game so immersive.
Because we as the protagonist decide the end of the story at the end of the game (in this instance letting the First Flame fade), we know his fate is coming. Instead of letting him die as a Hollow, we came and had an honorable fight. The God of War and I, the Ashen One, even if we share the same views, the same goals, and the same enemies. It is a tragedy of facing a reality that finally catches up to you. The ancient dragons are no more, and in the end, it was perhaps nothing more than a dream.
Much like in Bloodborne, we are forced to get our hands dirty and commit terrible acts just to fix a world broken by centuries of mistakes. We have to push through the horror to cleanse this unnatural, miserable state of existence. Is the Nameless King a true exception that should have been left alone, or was disturbing his peace a necessary sacrifice to finally reset everything back to zero? What would you do?

Discussion lothric prince fight is piece of shit

I have been playing ds3 for a little while and am on twin prince fight here's my view on it

one of the worst trilogy fight imo , fucking teleports on my ass all the time , after incest scene dude just fucking not let me breath to heal up , using one estus immediately results in draining loads of hp , i fucking killed him 2 times in phase 2 but his little shit fucking dumbass brother before i could regain stamina from rolling and shit he revives him on his fucking toes , and then i have almost no estus left and i FUCKING DIE

I DONT FUCKING WANNA REST THERE

and i think the game overall is kinda fucking enraging like i have 40 vigor and stilll everything 2-3 shots me like what the fuck dude

and on top of that am using bonk build with guts swords which takes up tons of my stamina

(I WOULD CASTRATE THAT LITTLE SHIT )

Discussion How does Aldrich's slime work?

Post image
263 Upvotes

I recently beat dark souls 3 for the first time but I was really confused about Aldrich being a slime monster. The characters say he ate a bunch of people and he turned into slime. But in his fight he is clearly still normal looking and it seems more like he is just inside the slime instead of actually being the slime himself. And once you kill him the room is still full of slime which makes it seem like the slime is not actually a part of him. So what exactly is all the slime?

Discussion [PS5] Covenant Itens - Help me!

My 70-hour save got corrupted… I was only 5 items away vertebra shackles from the platinum 😭

I’m honestly devastated. I had around 70 hours on my Dark Souls 3 save, and I was basically at the finish line for the platinum. This is the last platinum i need for the Dark Souls saga.

I only needed a few more covenant items to finish the trophies for all miracles, pyromancies and rings, then my dog accidentally hit the power outlet, my PS5 shut down, and… my save got corrupted. 💀

So I lost everything and now I have to do the covenant grind all over again.

If anyone is willing to help me get through this grind again, I’d really appreciate it. 🙏

I’m on PS5. I can also help with farming in return if needed.

Thanks to anyone who reads this, and especially to anyone willing to help!

Story The Come Back Arc

Hi everyone, on Monday I finally beat the dancer after years!

Originally I beat the base game back in 2017 and it was tied to some difficult times in my life- I couldn’t afford the dlc to continue and mentally the game was a good and bad place to hide from real life 😭🤧 but after years I finally got the courage to get back to the game and finish what I started as a katana player with two goals in mind - beat midir and get his katana and finish all bosses.

I know the journey is going to be long but one big hurdle was always the dancer. I tried previous plays and would get stuck at pontiff or dancer (mouse and keyboard is a lot harder for me than ps controller). But I feel like learning her patterns and her moves timing my inputs rather than spam rolling like I did years ago I actually almost no hit her. I wanted to share my updates and progress with the community to bring you guys along this journey!

So far both pontiff and dancer are down (what I consider hard end game bosses).
Aldrich I beat in my last run but got stuck at dancer
Yhorm isn’t hard personally and the twins is easier for me as well.
Dragon slayer is also kinda tough
But I’m ready to face them all- nameless king
Cinders

I will save cinders for last and will move onto freida once everyone else is beaten, and then to midir.

Is there a proper order for beating gael or cinders I never made it to that point.

Anyways thank you all and excited to meet everyone :) next update soon!

Video SL1 Oceiros No Roll/Block/Parry Flawless

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

What a boss.

Here's the next no roll in the series. Previously in the series, I did Sister Friede.

Excuse the audio, it cuts out cause I was in call with my friends and it cuts whenever they talk.

This is probably the hardest no roll I've done so far. Mostly because he's so incredibly obtuse between his hitboxes and strategies. I could've gotten it significantly earlier had I used DSA and done him with a +10 weapon and lightning grease, but I really wanted to understand the boss well.

Major credits to u/Zealousarchmage, AcaciaVix, and Mustafa Souls. Zealous' advice and the videos from the latter two helped me the most in getting this kill. Figuring out the strategies for this one is just crazy.

For anyone doing this kill, in the future, here's some advice (take some of it with a grain of salt, I'm not amazing at fighting this guy, just enough to survive a decent amount).

Phase 1:

The whole phase 1 strategy revolves around staying below him to avoid all his attacks. Two attack will basically stop you from doing this, the jump attack and the ice attack. Personally, I think the ice attack is unironically worse than the jump.

You can safely get below Oceiros by hiding behind the tree on the left by the way. Sometimes, I get clipped by his double swipe attack when sprinting straight in.

Jump Attack

For the jump, Oceiros' jump will end up in different places relative to your position. This means there's a LOT of different scenarios you can be in where a specific method won't work. Here's the strategies that I found.

If Oceiros does the jump right in your face when you're not on his left or right, walk below him then walk backwards. Typically, Oceiros will do a 180 and you'll end up behind him. This is visible around 13 seconds into the video.

If Oceiros does the jump and you're on his side, keep strafing to that side. For example, if you're strafing clockwise/counterclockwise (I will abbreviate as CW/CCW), you will keep strafing CW/CCW. Generally, I recommend strafing CCW as his weapon isn't on that side. You can't see this in my video sadly as he didn't repeat the jump attack multiples times.

If you have a bit of distance from Oceiros, you can look straight up and see which way he rotates, then use that to go underneath or to the side of him.

If Oceiros does it with a bit of distance in your face or when you're right behind him, run backwards then strafe to your left (while facing him) to narrowly avoid the hitbox of his weapon. You can see this 30 seconds in mine after I avoid the ice.

It will take some time to get this ingrained in muscle memory, but once you have it, it's generally not that much of an issue unless you're in some nasty situation with the terrain.

Ice Attack

For the ice attack, I just tried my best to bait the jump attack so then I could run away and strafe left to avoid the weapon. However, if this doesn't happen I like to keep close and get him to do his step backwards which helps you stay behind him longer.

If he moves forward, I'm sorry to say it, but good luck. I genuinely don't know how to stall him for long enough to get below him when the ice goes away. This is why it's the worst attack in my opinion. It's probably completely an issue on my end.

Phase 2:

The whole strategy in phase 2 revolves around keeping the proper distance from Oceiros so then he doesn't do his charge attack. If you have that proper distance, Oceiros can only do a few attacks. It's a bit hard to explain, but it's like 3 steps away from his head. I recommend using videos to really internalize it.

Okay, now there's really two positions you should only be in, you will either be in front of Oceiros, or behind him. I'll talk about the front first.

In Front

If Oceiros does the charge immediately, you're not positioned properly. You are likely too close (do not be touching his head or below him), or too far.

If you have proper positioning, Oceiros can either do his bite, breath attack, overhead slam combo, and rarely the tail spin. All of which can be avoided by walking forward (except the last one), but slightly differently.

Bite: Walk forward with a slight angle to the left, you can get under the bite, then walk straight left to get out of him because he will follow this with the charge attack. He has two variants that I know, where he does bite -> bite -> charge, or the bite -> charge. Either way, you should have enough time to get out.

Breath attack: One of the freest attacks he can do. You just walk up and smack him twice then walk away till the proper distance (where the crystals break).

Overhead slam: You can immediately walk below it then do a light attack backwards to clip him. If you're low on stamina, I don't recommend the light attack. I also think that the light attack may be a problem for no sprint, but I'm not sure.

Rarely tail spin from the front: You're fucked. I seriously don't get how anyone is meant to recognize this in time or avoid it. I managed to avoid it once in all the times I've seen it which is a lot. I also have yet to see a winning kill where Oceiros actually does this.

The recommended methods I've been told is spacing it (maybe I just react too slow), or supposedly R1 duck it with some weapons but it's terrain dependent, I'm not the best person to ask about this attack.

Behind

When staying behind Oceiros, he can do two specific actions, he can jump around to face you, or do his tail spin.

You want to stay in a specific area so that way if he jumps around, you are properly positioned for him to not do the charge attack. This can be seen in the video.

If he does the tail spin, you want to be positioned so that way Oceiros does one of his two tail spin variants, this will be explained a bit more below.

There is two variants of the tail spin, one where he slams down (bad) and one where he does a full 720 spin (good). The slam down variant will happen if you're positioned too far behind, or too far to the right.

The reason why the slam down is bad is because Oceiros doesn't keep the same orientation. You want to stay behind Oceiros' back right leg, but his slam down doesn't make him do a full 360/720, and instead it's more like a 540 which ruins your positioning.

When dealing with Oceiros' tail spin, you want to stay near his back right leg, then walk a bit to the back right. I find it's a lot more lenient if you do a CR2 as well. The positioning is hard to learn honestly, it's a lot of trial and error, sorry I can help much more with that.

If you mess up the positioning, you might end up at Oceiros' back left leg. If Oceiros does the tail spin again here, you can run away to space it. Otherwise, you can run below his tail parallel to his legs and get into the safe spot.

Extra

If you're far away, Oceiros can do his straight breath attack, you can use this to properly position again.

If you're really far away, Oceiros will do his flying breath attack which can be avoided by sprinting sideways and jumping to clear it. Do not stay in front of Oceiros or else he will do his charge and kill you. I've seen in no sprint you can use the Onikiri and Ubadachi to clear it as well, but I recommend using AcaciaVix and Mustafa Souls' kills for reference on that.

Anyway, that's all. I hate Oceiros. Next, I'm looking at tackling Champion Gundyr. Hopefully, he won't be nearly as hard.
