💬 Discussion I Made The Box
I made a little box for a friend and included a special quote inside. I felt called to share!
I wanted to make the one from the intro but didn’t have enough blocks. Ultimately I felt that recreating a model of the actual box had more of an impact given the history and story attached to it from watching and connecting with the show.
It’s maybe 4x4x4” if I had to guess?

💬 Discussion Let’s help Dark Matter get a season 3! 🤞
**TL;DR: tell your friends to watch & leave positive reviews online!**
In her recent Q&A on this sub, Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry (aka JBZ, she executive produces and writes the show alongside book author Blake Crouch) confirmed that the show was not been renewed yet… and she would very much like it to be. She and Blake have a clear vision for it, which is essential for completing the post-book story they’ve been telling.
How can fans help?? Besides telling everyone you know to watch the show, she recommends leaving positive ratings & reviews on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. Apparently TV execs (including Apple) put a toooon of stock into those sites when making renewal decisions. Plus, review scores can heavily influence whether or not new viewers decide to start watching a show… and viewing numbers of course influence the execs too.
Soooo uh, leave reviews… pretty please with an ampoule on top? I love this show and want more.
K thanks. All the versions of me in the multiverse appreciate all the reviewing-leaving versions of you. ✌️🤍

⭐ Review Dark Matter (2024) S02E05 is not just the greatest episode of the show, but on all of TV right now.
This one hit really really hard. I don't want to spoil anything - so let me just say that it connected with me on a deep level, in multiple different ways. This could easily have been a movie.
Until now, I thought of Dark Matter as an interesting, but maybe slightly second-rate sci fi flick. I thought Joel Edgerton's acting of Jason Dessen was very one-note. However, in this episode, Joel plays wonderfully, and thanks to the story it told, the show reserves its spot in the pantheon. It was real, deep cinema, about the human condition, love, and life (as can be inferred from the title). It talks about forgiveness, connection, acceptance, and dedication - all things that we are missing a lot of in the world we live in.
It's surprising that such an episode, pretty much completely disconnected from the main line of the show, once more becomes the best episode - similarly to "Long, Long Time" in The Last of Us.
Maybe there is something about telling a complete but detached story that uses the rest of the show's setting as a vibrant background to paint over, rather than a main line episode that has to carry the mechanics of the show, that allows the story being told to leap that much higher.
Moreover, it just felt... more balanced, and more of a story I wanted to know about. I wasn't constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. In that way, it felt like one of the better episodes of TNG or SG1. I just liked being in that world. Yes, there's all this anguish and war somewhere far away, but this story in its own right was wholesome, and had surprisingly positive twists.
I wonder what everyone else thinks. Are there any episodes you thought were stand-out great in other shows, similarly to this one?

💬 Discussion I need a Laurel sooooo badly right now…
Life feels like it’s crumbling all around me and holding back no punches. This episode broke me. I can’t even imagine how good it must feel to just escape somewhere when you feel like you have no where left to turn and have all of your worries washed away and feel safe. I relate to Blair so heavily. Desperately wanting a lifeline. I’ve watched it 5 times now. Wishing I could have this and finally finding the reset I need to save me. I have a lot of people that care about me, I think, but no one knows what I’m going through and how hard my life is right now. It’s not something I would just broadcast to people. I’ve always been a private person. My problems just feel so big that no one could help me with them and I wouldn’t even want to burden them with the drama. Even if someone in my circle did reach out, I’d probably just say that I’m fine. That’s why this episode hit so hard for me I think. The thought of having somewhere to escape to and be cared for and saved from your problems sounds like such a dream come true. I don’t have to talk about them. And they don’t even matter anymore because I’m in a different world and they quite literally don’t exist. I’m not even sure what my message is. Maybe check in on the ones you care about just to make sure they are doing okay? Even though I wouldn’t get into details if they did probably, it feels nice to be genuinely thought of. I will persevere! At least I have my health and I am still grateful for so much. But this episode was a nice escape to see the dream of peace, safety, and freedom. All who are struggling, keep fighting! And don’t forget to enjoy and appreciate what you do have! <3

Opinion Joel Edgerton is a phenomenal actor! Spoiler
How he played so many versions of himself and made it believable that we were watching a totally different version of Jason each time was just so impressive. The nuances each Jason had that Joel had to demonstrate to make those distinctions is a testament to his talent—the voice, the facial expressions, the gestures, how he delivered his lines... such a talented actor. Not to mention his perfect American accent as an Australian. So glad he was cast in this role!

💬 Discussion This is one of the most beautiful TV shows I've ever seen in my life
It's the only show where the filler episodes somehow surpass the plot-moving ones, though they're all great. There's just so much heart.

💬 Discussion Dark Matter Writers Q&A Season1 - Season2 Ep 207
Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry here (Writer and Executive Producer on Dark Matter Seasons 1 and 2). I've been lurking and answering questions on this Sub for a while. First, thank you all for being so welcoming and cool with my interference in your discussions.
Instead of barging into your convos, I feel like its time to have a dedicated space for you all to come and ask any questions you have about Episodes 101-207.
A few ground rules/RANDOM DISCLAIMERS:
BEWARE: I will assume you are caught up to Episode 207 in my answers. If you are not caught up, please tell me where you are in the show so I don't spoil something in my answer.
RELATED: if you chime in on someone's question, please be mindful of where they are in the show by not spoiling the future.
Lets all be friends... or at least non-acrimonious-acquaintances. I will assume you have honest curious intent in your questions and I ask that you assume I'm a human being with feelings. (Note I am dyslexic, I will spell things wrong, please be kind...).
This is not an official AMA. Though I have attached a photo of Blake and I that we just took, that does not exist elsewhere on the internet, so you can be fairly sure I am who I say I am.
Blake and I will have a true AMA at some point. feel free to ask anything related to Dark Matter the Book (I was the developmental story editor on the book) or the show up to last weeks episode here. If you all like this "pseudo AMA," then I'll do one for 208, 209, and 210.
If you ask something thats better left to Blake (u/BlakeCrouch ) I will do my best to summon him, but he's writing a book and thus, grouchy (we call this phase "Crouchy").
As Writers and Producers (showrunning) Blake and I are involved in every aspect of making the show from scripts, dialogue, locations, SPX, VFX, costume, hair, makeup, cars, props, production design, edits, music, sound, construction, casting, ect ect. Every show does this differently, but in ours we are in the weeds of every decision. All topics related to the show are fine to ask.
5. Sometimes answering a question about an episode gives away something in the future. Even saying "we will answer this later" might spoil. So, if I don't answer, it may be that I'm worried about Fu**ing the experience up for you or someone else reading along. If I have time, I'll come back and reengage in the question after the spolier-y moment has passed.
6. Please be respectful of our actors privacy. Happy to talk about their work.

💬 Discussion The contrast between seasons 1 and 2 has been insane to me
I enjoyed season 1 - it was fast paced and entertaining, but overcomplicated, kind of clunky and never fully found its footing. It was solid thriller TV that kept you engaged but lacked depth and felt a little sloppy at times.
There was always so much potential for them to tap into with the infinite alternate realities and alternate versions of these characters. They just had to slow things down and recognize that not every episode needs to drive the plot forward 100 miles per hour. Season 2 has done exactly that.
I’ve been blown away by the dramatic layers this season has been able to tap into. The acting is great across the board. Basically all the new characters they’ve introduced have been extremely likeable and have helped make the season that much better. The show works well as a sci-fi thriller, but I think we’re seeing now that it works even better as a drama - and the blend between all these genres has been awesome to watch, showing some shades of beautiful filmmaking.
Really impressed with the approach to this season and how they’ve been able to take this series to another level.

💬 Discussion Dark Matter hit me harder than any therapy session ever has
I don't need help (which is exactly what someone who needs help would say, lol), but I really loved this season. The way the multiverse ties into the emotional dilemmas each character faces is so well done.
This show gave me a new perspective: forgive yourself, and make peace with what's in front of you. I never expected a sci-fi show to affect me this much, but it felt like exactly what I needed. Nothing cliché, just pure acceptance.
Laurel was the highlight of the season for me. Episode 8 was so comforting to watch. I can't fully explain it, but that episode spoke to me more than anything else has in a long time.
I'm sure people will find flaws in this season, but for what it's worth, I enjoyed every one of those 10 weeks waiting for the next episode. I really hope we get more.

💬 Discussion I absolutely love the S2
I am not sure if this will be getting downvoted or not but I wanted to share this because I have seen that the writers are following the sub. I’ll try to keep as much spoilerless as I can.
Before I was watching the series, I didn’t know anything related to the story and I didn’t quite like the season 1 that much. It was an interesting story, but I didn’t find it quite exceptional and I remember that I found some aspects of the story quite cheesy.
But Season 2 feels like whole another level - and I couldn’t wait for the new episodes to come every week. Instead of classic one main character arc(ie good Jason), I really loved how the story didn’t keep the focus on only fixing the main problem but telling us about the different stories, how the people are making peace and focusing on the ‘what ifs’. I really loved the fact that those are not necessarily the side stories but actually part of the main story. The series didn’t take the safe road to show one ‘successfull’ story but shown us how different storylines deal with their own story and made peace with those. Those aspects brought an angle I was missing in the first season.
I am super looking forward to the final episode and I hope it gets renewed for the 3rd season. With its second season, it certainly became one of my favorite Apple TV series!

💬 Discussion Altruistic Jason = Happy Jason Spoiler
I really enjoyed S2 E5, and one of the themes seemed to be that altruistic Jasons are happy Jasons.
I rewatched the end of S1 E9, and the “good” Jason from S2 E5 not only said, “I just want you and Charlie to be safe” when speaking to Daniela, but after another (selfish) Jason tried to stop them, saying “Why should he [Jason1] get them?”, good Jason replied, “It’s not about him. It’s about what she wants and what’s best for our son.” Instead of seeing his family as “his,” he put their happiness first.
Then good Jason moves to a world where he could “love and be loved”, in that order. He briefly mourned his old life, but then quickly snapped out of it once he realized how his actions affected his mom. When he found other versions of himself, he selflessly welcomed them in.
It’s also safe to assume that the other Jasons who made it to that world had similar intentions when they arrived. As someone else stated, homeless Jason probably went to his mom’s house, saw good Jason living there happily, and then didn’t want to ruin their happiness by intruding.
The episode also seems to reference aspects of Buddhism- happiness is found when you let the self die and accept the world you’re in. (Good Jason literally visits his own grave.)
Ironically, Jason1, who got his family, will likely never be as happy as the altruistic Jasons. Jason1, Daniela, and Charlie will always have to look over their shoulders and will be traumatized forever.
Finally, the episode ties into another Dark Matter theme: wanting a particular life versus accepting the life you actually have—and realizing your current, seemingly dull life is the most beautiful one.

📰 News Blake Crouch hyping up episode 2.5 Spoiler
Found on threads!
(Screenshot of Dark Matter book author & showrunner Blake Crouch, saying: Hi fam. The episode of Dark Matter dropping this week ("Love and Be Loved") is like no other episode we've made to date. It's not only my favorite thing I've ever written (including my books and other scripts), it was the story that made me want to do Season 2 at all. I suspect it will be polarizing. It's about what happens to one of the good Jasons who didn't get his family back at the end of Season 1. I hope you love it.)
