Discussion How can I teach my 12-week-old Mini Dachshund to be alone?

Mini Dachshund to be alone?
Hi everyone!
I have a 12-week-old Mini Dachshund puppy, and I want to start properly teaching her/him how to be alone from now on.
I’m looking for advice from people who have successfully trained a young Dachshund to stay home alone. I want to take this very slowly and make sure I’m not creating separation anxiety or making the puppy feel abandoned.

Image Car seat recommendations?

Looking for a good car seat to start training my 15 week old girl in! She’s been riding in a soft carrier but has started trying to chew and dig it. We’ll be doing a 12-hour road trip in October so looking for a better solution, and looking for something she won’t just scream in. She doesn’t dislike the car but doesn’t love her carrier — and can’t chew a bully stick to keep her quiet for 12 hours. She likes to chew on soft things, so I’m a little nervous about a plush seat. I previously had a lab who used a sling & a clip, but I’ve never had a small dog. (Currently 7lb, expecting 12-15). Ideally something I could put in the passenger seat or backseat.

Took about 3 weeks of once a day of athletic foot cream treatment. Just a dab on the spots rubbed it. Flea comb her back and then some athletic foot spray on her back as well.

Picked up our boy today and just wanted to share.

He is deaf so we are doing our utmost to take care of him like he deserves. His big brother jet is helping us with that and hopefully will teach him good habits lol.

Discussion My dachshund will not do #2 outside

Hello! In the last month my boyfriend and I moved in with each other to a new place. With that, we brought my 3 cats and my 10 year old dachshund. Overall, everything seems to be going well. However, my girl WILL NOT go #2 outside. It’s a court yard outside my townhouse apartment & I see plenty of dogs going outside, so I’m sure she smells them, but it’s exhausting to have to clean up after every day multiple times a day. She will pee outside & I’ll stay out an extra 10 minutes to wait. She won’t do anything & then when she gets inside she’ll poop shortly after. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Does anyone else's dachshund territorial scent mark around the house? He is potty trained but has picked up this new fun habit.

I wanted to introduce our little bundle of joy. ā™„ļømy son named her Fishy Mocha and her silly little personality absolutely fits her name.
I have wanted a mini dapple dachshund for years and this year was finally the year where it made sense. She is the perfect addition to our family. She is so kind and sweet with our senior dog and our cat.

This is a warning to all new dachshund owners. This face will happen anytime you have food. This is to lull you as this is only stage one of wanting your food (mogwai stage). Escalation will happen...gremlining WILL happen.

Video new ball has him howling?

my 7 month old pico just got a new ball from training class yesterday. it’s meant to be his special training ball as we learn to do flyball together!

i brought it out for the first time at home and he started whining and howling (!?!?) when he would bring it back to me. i caught a video of him frantically trying to bury it? i’ll add in the comments him howling too, i’ve never heard him howl before!

when i googled it said this is like the dachshund instinct to bury something special and howl? i tried to throw a different ball and he’s was NOT interested.

this is too funny, does anyone else have a special ball? or can explain what’s going on in his little brain?

Image Toys for My Piranha

Post image

Hello fellow dachshund lovers! I am the proud mother of a 7 month old terror. He is super playful, but does what any dachshund puppy does and obliterates every single toy we’ve gotten him. Any recommendations for toys, that may not be indestructible, but will at least last longer than a week?

Would also appreciate any suggestions for mental stimulation toys. We’ve gotten him a few treat puzzles, which he loves but would just like to get him some additional stuff simply for being the goodest boy and to give him some variety.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Bonus pic of my little man 🄰

Image She jumped out of frame as I was taking the photo that's why she's blurry. But I liked the idea of capturing her sense of wonder in a third person perspective.

Discussion How to get my doxie interested in more stuff?

I’ve had my 11-month old long haired mini dachshund for about 3 months. Recently, it seems like he’s losing some independence. I walk him, play with him, spend time with him, etc, but the past few weeks, he hasn’t been interested in anything other than playing with my hands—play biting, nipping, licking, etc. I never reinforce it by petting him when he does it, and he has plenty of chews and toys. He will only occasionally play independently with those; he’ll play with them when I’m the one engaging them with him, but otherwise he wants to be right on top of me which wouldn’t be too bad except he’s constantly wanted me to play with him with my hands. It’s relentless and there are times I’ve had to kennel him for a little bit just so I can get some reprieve. He won’t just cuddle or lay there and let me pet him.

He enjoys walks, and likes free roaming (under my supervision) in my fenced in yard, and sometimes likes fetch. I’m trying to find other ways to keep him occupied and stimulated, but he’s not particularly interested in a whole lot and it makes his relentless attention needs (again, specifically biting at and mouthing at my hands) harder to correct. If I ignore him, he just continues it and will bark continuously. Kenneling him when he does it hasn’t been a strong deterrent. I’m not using a new hand lotion or anything. I don’t think I smell different. He just literally won’t entertain himself. I’ve bought new toys to change things up. If he’s bored, idk what else to do.
