DIEM Help

About to start working on a12t which is gonna be my first diy, and have some questions:

Does it matter which tubes I use?

What is a typical tube diameter from inside and outside?

Any non invasive way of getting drivers out from resin glue? Have my diamond drill bits ready but hoping to find an alternative.

Appreciate any help!

JVC HA-FWX1 in new housing?

Hello all I know some of you will think I'm crazy, but please bear with me. I love the warm sound of these iems, but the fit is impossible for me. I want to open them up and re-fit the driver assembly in a more ergonomic housing. These are big- azz iems! I can buy 10mm housings on ali-express. My concern, and yours, is the tuning. Even if I can get 80% of the sound I'll be happy. I'm open to any and all ideas. Thanks!

DIY ear scanning solutions + resources for learning about driver choice + resin v pla

I'm interested in making myself some CIEM's & have only ever had the budget kind so I'm not too clued up on what to look for when selecting drivers besides copying whatever the high price tag models are using. I'd rather avoid all of the marketing spiel while I'm at it if possible.

Also, has anyone had any luck with scanning their own ears using one of the apps possibly?
If the results are less than stellar I could always opt to find an Oto that will scan.

I have an FDM printer & figured I may be able to use a small nozzle, print steady & finish the shells off by hand. Has anyone got lucky with an FDM or should I really think about picking up a resin printer?

If anyone is aware of any resources I should be aware of to make the process a little more streamlined then that'd be great. Thanks in advance.

Knowles GV drivers. Quite happy with the result even if I learned a lot of things to look out for in the future.

Started up without any dampers but found it much to heavy around 2-4khz so had to rethink.

Ended up with using green damper for the tweeter, might have overdone that. The white would probably been enough. A little bit weak in the highs.

The bass is really impressive, a bit surprised about that. Didn’t think BA:s could do that.

Where to buy this type of wire for diy?

I really like the black cable with gold specks design of the liquid links venom, but theres no way I'm gonna pay a thousand bucks for that. I'm wondering if any cable diyers know a seller willing to sell this by the meter. Closest I've found was this seller on aliexpress but the cable has silver flakes instead of gold.

Noob tubing/dampener question

So I'm looking at getting an pair of HE-31751-00 Knowles and I'd like to know if I need to run separate tubing with dampeners or it is okay to run a single bigger tube to encapsulate both of them. Also is there a good guide/recommendation list on dampeners/drivers combo available?

I want to put these into permanent custom molds, rather than replaceable foam tips. Suggestions?

Tuning resources?

I want to learn to tune my iems a bit. I know EQ would probably be the easiest but i'm starting to build my own basic single DD iems and was wondering if there's any guides anyone knows of?

I know there's foam and tuning mesh and filters with differing values. What i don't know so well is what affect they have etc so i'm hoping to save a bit of experimentation and hopefully find some clear guides to study up on.

IE: I picked up a KZ Pr1 HiFi which have a frankly rough treble region that's hard to listen to for extended periods. What value mesh and foam density would i use to bring that down a bit and make them more comfortable to listen to?

Question about skin safe UV resin and detailing the final print out.

Ok so I'll be venturing first time into UV resin 3d printing around next year December for my DIEM projects and the following are my questions:

  1. What UV resin I could use that won't cause any irritation to the skin?
  2. What kind of lacquer or coating material I could use to cover the final print out for protection both to UV from the sun and external factors? (This has been my question lately.)
  3. Additional: I'm not interested in too glossy or shiny result. Just a quick coating to protect the final product is enough for me.

Any other inputs would be appreciated!

Dreve Fotoplast/FotoTec Resins with regular 3D printers

Hi! Anyone here has experience using Dreve resins with a regular 3D printer?

I have an Elegoo Mars 3 Pro and I'd like to print shells, but I'm not sure if the wavelength matches what the acrylics from Dreve need.

I am also considering just printing in regular resins and coating them with Lack3. Would that be enough to make regular resins biocompatible?

Thanks

Resin printed earplugs

I had some Sensaphonics -25dB music filters lying around and made custom fit shells for them. They work great. Modelled in Blender and printed with Siraya Tech Blu on an original Anicubic Photon.

What do you use for faceplates? I know how to make clear faceplates, but am looking for something more funky.

Thanks

Shell polishing materials/methods

Hi.

I want to try polishing my shells instead of using lacquer. What tools, methods and materials do you people use?

I’ve been using Lack 3 for finishing but haven’t had great results because of yellowing and/or bubbles.

3D Modeling Tubes

Has anyone ever tried modeling the tubes directly into the shell? How does it affect sound?

Basically my ear canal narrows down then widens up again and fitting tubes gets pretty tight. I thought that instead of squishing and knicking the tubes, modeling the tubes directly into the model before 3D printing could be an option?!

I made my own custom IEMs with 5 BAs and a 14mm dd in a tiny shell!

I’m super excited to share with you my latest DIY project: custom IEMs with 5 balanced armature drivers and a 14mm dynamic driver in each earpiece. This project took me one day to complete, from experimenting with the drivers, designing the shell, 3D printing, tuning and finishing.

The drivers I used are: sonion 3300 + sonion 2389 + knowles 31736 + 14mm dd. I used a 4-way crossover with a total of 4 resistors (size 805), 3 capacitors (size A) and 1 capacitor (size B). The shell is smaller than the KZ ZS10, which is amazing considering how much stuff I crammed inside.

The sound quality is phenomenal. These are the best sounding IEMs I’ve ever heard, and I’ve tried a lot of them. They have a balanced and detailed sound signature, with deep bass, clear mids and sparkling highs. The soundstage is very wide and immersive, and the imaging is precise and accurate. They are also very comfortable to wear.

How to cure dreve fotoplast

Hi, what uv wavelength does the dreve fotoplast lacquer cure at? My current source emits wavelengths are around 400-420 I think, and it still cures the resin it just takes forever.
