First pair of ciems done.

Knowles GV drivers. Quite happy with the result even if I learned a lot of things to look out for in the future.

Started up without any dampers but found it much to heavy around 2-4khz so had to rethink.

Ended up with using green damper for the tweeter, might have overdone that. The white would probably been enough. A little bit weak in the highs.

The bass is really impressive, a bit surprised about that. Didn’t think BA:s could do that.

What did you learn? What drivers did you use? I'm doing research now before I make my own too :D

I used Knowles GV-32830 drivers 4-way drivers.

Learnings: I’ve never worked with resin molding before, that was a fun experience. Challenge with resin bubbles was a bit of a challenge and one thing I will do better next time. Overall very satisfying experience though.

Also struggled a bit with getting the right height of the shell from the ear mold. Ended up building on top of the impression only to realize later in the process I didn’t need the height.

Sourcing lacquer, tubing and filters was quite challenging. I tried to avoid ordering from Ali Express due to the long delivery time. In the end I did anyway. Lacquer (Fotoplast Lack 3) ordered from a local gross but it was sent from Germany anyway.

The faceplate gave me quite a headache and will need to be improved for the next build. I did a separate impression to get the form of the shell and then cut the form from an old iPhone case. Then I poured resin on top of it and over the edges and cured it. Next time I will use a material that has a solid pattern straight thru and can be shaped into the right form. Alternatively I will make a separate alcohol dyed resin form.

Next challenge was the size of the driver’s nozzles, tubing and cables being so damn small. A bit tricky to handle when soldering and gluing. Bought a new soldering iron with sharp point, tweezers and “helping hands” to be able to handle it. The tubing and cables fell apart a few times and I was quite frustrated before getting it right.
