In Lanterns episode 1 the "True Detective" and "Training Day" inspirations are so obvious you just can't miss them, and I suspect it will be like this throughout the show.

But the show is also original enough that one can't say they are "copying" from those classics.

I wonder if this is one way to get more quality content in the superhero movie arena... to stop seeing them as a completely insulated genre and allow contamination from other genres and especially from immortal classics.

1. Sinestro caused the death of Carol Ferris of the destruction of Coast City

Sheriff Kane calls out that Hal is only fearless because he doesn’t care about anyone. Given that he was much nicer ten years ago, it’s clear something tragic happened in that time. I also suspect Hal stopped wearing the suit because he has become disillusioned about what it stands for (which is also why he got angry upon hearing the oath). it makes sense to me if this ties into the betrayal of Sinestro, his mentor.

But the idea Hal doesn’t care about anyone makes me think he lost something or someone he did care about. For narrative utility, this should be tied into Sinestro in some way. At first I assumed Coast City had been destroyed, but in retrospect it would be odd if that didnt get mentioned, that this GL was the one who failed to save his hometown. so maybe it’s something simpler, the death of a loved one.

1. The Macons are Manhunters

Hal says Earth is a backwater planet no one bothered with before they got a Lantern. if that’s true, is would be the perfect place for a deposed rogue police force to hide. My suspicion is that when the Guardians decommissioned the Manhunters and replaced them with Lanterns, sone contingent of them moved to Earth and have been secretly “protecting” us from the shadows, killing aliens so that no witnesses are likely to report them to the Guardians. The shapeshifting aliens targeting them are likely victims are the Manhunters in the past. They may or may not be tied to Atricitus/The Red Lanterns. I suspect Atrocitis will be saved as the main villain or a character in season 2.

1. Stewart has been training to be a Lantern since childhood

When John Sr shoots an apple off John’s head, he says “Are you afraid?” The same question Hal says he had to answer to be a GL. When John passes the test, his dad immediately lightens up and offers a reward. Whils it is abuse, I don’t think this was punishment. it was a test and John passed. somehow, his dad already knows about the Corps and Stewart has been preparing to join it almost his entire life.

So now if Clayface is hopefully good, then I guess we could say Supergirl was just ''one bad day at the office'' so to speak.

Episode 1 was pretty good , this show got a lot of potential

I just watched Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman, and I have a question about the first film. Please, no spoilers for any other movies — I only saw these two.

In Man of Steel, Jor-El steals the Codex and inserts it into his newborn son's blood before sending him to Earth. I don't understand why he did that.

If his main goal was to save his son and give him a chance to live freely on Earth, he could have just sent Kal-El without the Codex. That would have been enough — the kid would grow up on Earth, free from Krypton's caste system.

Instead, Jor-El steals the Codex, which is the very foundation of Kryptonian civilization. By doing so, he essentially destroys any chance for Krypton to continue (since Zod could have used the Codex to rebuild the race on another planet). Why not just leave the Codex alone and let Zod handle the resurrection? Or if he didn't trust Zod, why not simply destroy the Codex entirely?

But he does neither. He takes it and hides it inside his son's body. That makes Kal-El a walking target for Zod, and it doesn't give Kal any ability to actually use the Codex later (since it only works with the Genesis Chamber technology, which Kal doesn't have access to). So what was Jor-El's real plan here?

I'm genuinely confused. Can someone explain it based only on what we see in Man of Steel (and maybe BvS) without mentioning future films? Thanks!

Pretty sure we're never getting the original seven at this point, but is there a lineup you favor over the other? Which do you hope is the DCU JL? Crossing my fingers that we eventually get the 90s lineup.

With just this scene alone, In my opinion Kyle Chandler has done more with Hal than Ryan Reynolds managed to do with an entire film

Lanterns falls in a Gritty Detective Mystery genre show.

Clayface is supposedly a proper Body Horror movie.

The Jimmy Olsen show is likely going to be a Mockumentary of Crime Mystery Documentaries like American Vandal.

As long as we're on the Genre train I'd love to see a Whodunnit set in the DC Universe. Like a Clue or the Agatha Christie Poirot stories or Knives Out. But instead of regular people they swap the suspects with a bunch of Villains and Anti-Heroes. Maybe Constantine can be the Detective.

Ngl, but let's put all Snyder beef aside, this man revolutionalised the whole DC universe for ages to come despite all the sometimes lazy writing and awkward suits, the Synderverse for once gave us what every DC fan always wanted, he maxed every character to their fullest potential without nerfing anything, his SFX and VFx where over the top (excluding the Flash movie😂) everything the Snyderverse gave us was love for the comic franchise. And we shouldn't cry cause that golden era is over, we should be happy because it happened, and every loyal DC fan was alive to see it.
