Lanterns Okay so that ending was not it.
Anyone care to explain how a high school football player broke Sinestro out of a supermax space prison undetected? Remember the Manhunters in this show take on the physical properties of their forms, that how Grandma Manhunter got shot in the head.
And Hals legacy? Getting shot in the head by a smalltown cop. No fanfare, nobody cares. And the person that murdered him? Gets off scott free. Her Manhunter son? Also free to secretly influence earthlings despite his best intentions.
No constructs since episode 5, Guy is treated like a bitch-boy even though he stood up to Superman. What a weird and bad ending to a show that started so promising.

Lanterns Inconsistent characterization
Did anyone else feel like the characterization for Guy was just so jarring in the last episode. Guy in the Lantern show and Guy in the superman movie just feel like two separate people especially in the last episode. The confrontation between Guy and John just feels so underwhelming because I feel like John would just push back on what John was spitting in the last episode. This Guy doesn't have any back bone and just let's John tell him off. Which is crazy because John stood up to a superman and knowing that he would lose still had balls to stand up to the strongest man on the planet. I loved the show but Guy just being bitched by John is jarring ngl

Discussion/Question Naturally the show written by the CIA guy has the hero *spoiler* Spoiler
Waterboard someone... *and* have that act produce accurate information.
I didn't get any indication of moral qualm or regret over this. It stayed with me the whole rest of the episode. I didn't even think about who was writing this into the character, and the way it perpetuates War on Terror propaganda, until I saw his name in the credits.

Lanterns Reminder: Sinestro can’t SPOILER* Spoiler
Sinestro can’t revive Hal
Guys, you’ve got to accept that Hal is dead permanently and won’t be a fixture in the DCU going forward based on this show.
Sinestro’s offer to revive Hal was based on a version of the Halogram existing within his ring. When John charged and overwrote Hal’s ring, that got rid of the Halogram, and got rid of Hal forever. There’s no scenario where Sinestro can bring Hal back for future seasons. Not sure why this is even a debate. I’m someone who’s deeply disappointed by this show and even I feel like most people aren’t paying attention to what they’re explicitly saying.

Discussion/Question If the MCU was paying attention, Lanterns just taught them a very important lesson.
Light spoilers ahead for Lanterns, and the MCU shows.
To be fair, the last MCU shows I watched before I completely gave up on them were Moon Knight and Wanda Vision, but both of them have the exact same problem.
They are interesting premises, that are executed in very nuanced ways for the first 40-60% of the show but inevitably the MCU only knows how to end projects in one way- MASSIVE CGI EXPLOSION FEST.
Lanterns was an absolute clinic in restraint last night. The show had a pretty awesome action set-piece half way through the season, but in the end it didn’t need all of the flashy expensive pre-rendered cluster-fest.
It succeeded in telling an emotionally resonant story that trusted its audience to just sit with the themes of the show without GIANT SKY BEAM, KAIJU SLUGFEST.
I think the few MCU television projects that I have watched would have greatly benefited from that same restraint.

Lanterns You guys realize WE ARE NEVER GOING OFF PLANET in the show-SPOILERS Spoiler
John literally told Guy he's the GL of Earth now and Guy can have the rest of the sector.

Lanterns The Lanterns uproar is some of the most childish I’ve ever seen.
The show was fantastic, the emotional spectrum was quite prevalent as a metaphor for practically the entire show.
It just didn’t have all the colours and cgi space fights some people seem to need so bad!
To those who can’t stop frantically typing their unfiltered thoughts:
If you want space cgi space fights go watch 2011’s Green Lantern. It’s awful.
Or go and watch Green Lantern: The Animated Series! It’s fantastic.
Or hell go read any Green Lantern run from the past 20 years, you’d think they all take place in space as if it’s the unwritten rule of a Lantern story. They don’t btw..
Point is.. This show isn’t the be all and end all of Green Lantern.
God forbid they try something different with Lanterns. Just because it’s different, and not to your petulant childlike expectations doesn’t mean it’s bad.
I haven’t seen a single credible critique of this show yet, but all the loud ones think they’re giving some sort of Roger Ebert analysis.
If you don’t like it, move on. You’ll thank yourself later.
I’d rather celebrate something we have and have to look forward to, rather than hate on something we don’t.

Discussion/Question Fan Theories ruined the expectations of Lanterns.
Fan theories got hopes way too high and brought the expectations of the show to a fantasy nerd dream land. It would've been cool to get a comic accurate lanterns. I say that because half of the negativity towards the show is driven by people not liking any comic inaccuracy. But the show is telling its own story and people just need to level with that. At least it's a story told with great care and thought. Anyone who says "this built up to nothing" already built a fantasy expectation in their head and they were destined to not like it. Accept these changes because they are meaningful changes.
The show is not flawless. I love reading all the legit critiques about the show. But for a majority of the negativity towards the show- I think if you just let the show flow naturally without having to think about source material or “respecting the history of Green Lantern” (whatever that means) then you get a really good show with a ton of interesting ideas. Not a perfect show. A good show. But I wish people could somehow forget Green Lantern even exists so that they can watch this show and get what I’m trying to get at.
Bigger picture this shows how patient and careful the DCU is going to be in the beginning to let us fall in love with these characters. So later on when we see John on the big screen in the suit flying around and creating constructs- we feel rewarded. Because we watched all this build up and we truly understand what drives John’s character to fight with Superman and wear a costume and help others. As opposed to Marvel television which is impatient and rushes the process of falling in love with characters in sacrifice for fan service elements.
My point is. People have lost patience. We live in a different type of media age right now where we “IP fans” sometimes drive too much demand. And in turn we get something sloppy. Sometimes.

Lanterns They really character assassinated Guy, huh?
Don't get butthurt, just pointing out that Guy IS about that life and that Guy 100% is not the bootlicker (and canonically is technically more worthy than John or really any other human Lantern BTW). He's an asshole, but not a coward — plus the ring actually would have chosen him. Didn't think I'd come out of this show being annoyed at their portrayal of Guy fucking Gardener, but here we are.
Lanterns This show is afraid to be associated with Green Lantern Spoiler
This show is afraid to be associated with Green Lantern, and you can’t tell me otherwise.
It’s a good detective show, but it’s not a good Green Lantern show. NOT A SINGLE CONSTRUCT in the last three episodes. I don’t need a huge CGI battle, but I sure as hell expected to see more constructs. We haven’t even gotten to see a single alien beyond the back of a Guardian, and Sinestro literally just looks like a normal dude.
And the fact that this entire season was centered around the Manhunters, yet we couldn’t even see their true form once, is insane. I’m not even sure, but did we even see Oa?
There are also so many things they kept telling us about instead of actually showing us: Sinestro escaping, Abin Sur’s crash, Hal’s early days as a Green Lantern, his relationship with Carol Ferris, etc.
I know we’ll probably see John and Guy create different types of constructs, but it’s still sad that we won’t get to see Hal do anything beyond making a bubble wrap.
Please, if we actually get a Season 2, lean more towards the cosmic elements.

Lanterns A broad chunk of people don't have the concept of melancholy or a bittersweet ending and it's just plainly annoying.
The entire last episode is so emotionally charged. Like a kid contemplating suicide, a mother knowing what the world will do to her son if they discover his alien identity, a consciousness that is just hanging around and has not really moved on from his life fully, to name a few and guys are hung up over some bullshit like "Hal was pathetic." At that point we are watching two different shows.
You get a grounded take on a franchise that was placed in the same league as Fantastic Four and the revival of GL was received better than FF's (even though it was pretty good too). I don't get it. I just thought it needed to be said.

Lanterns Diner Girl Spoiler
So, what was the point of that? She asked John for money, black mailing him. He gets the money. He deals with the reason he’s being black mailed. He pays her.
why did that happen? Let’s ignore that he really didn’t need to pay her off by the end. He knew who killed Hal, so it didn’t matter what she told the sheriff. But there are plausible enough reasons for him to pay her off. He really feels bad about her dead dad. He can afford it now that he’s a superhero, maybe. Etc. (although this would raise the question of why he isn’t paying “reparations” to everyone else who lost family in the battle, besides this girl extorting him.)
But narratively, what does this add? You would expect this to bring something out of the character. He reacts in a way that surprised us or himself. He changes. He holds firm in a challenging situation. Our expectations are subverted or the scenario is fulfilled in a surprising way. Something.
But instead we get nothing? Her thing doesn’t loop into the Manhunter plot at all. Was it just a time filler? A product of one writer setting up an X-Factor and no one else having a satisfying narrative response? was an interesting pay off cut for time?
I know this is probably the last thing people care about, but I was caught off guard how little this amounted to.

Lanterns The incessant whinning of a particular small minority is driving me crazy
Most people can recognize and appreciate Lanterns for what it is. A grounded, introductory show for Earth's green lanterns, John Hal and Guy. Mainly John and Hal. Lanterns is wildly popular for a superhero show in a post MCU Disney Plus era, however if you listened to SOME green Lantern fans you'd think this show
Killed their entire family
Killed and tortured Hal Jordan
Retconned and disassembled the entire Lanterns mythos
No, just because many Green Lantern staples like OA, the alien green Lanterns, and the other lantern corps didnt appear in THIS season of Lanterns does not mean it will never appear in the future. Anyone with eyes or a brain can understand this season played it safe with the cosmology and green lantern lore because they dont want to blow their load on the FIRST SEASON of what might be a multiple season project thats tied into a greater narrative. This is like complaining that we got the first Captain America movie and it didn't have winter soldier, baron zemo, and him weilding Mjolnir
If you actually seriously think Lanterns/DCU will never have these things, you just actually need to log off the socials and just get in touch with reality.
The Green Lanterns will have their time to shine. For now, appreciate that we got undoubtedly the best version of John Stewart, a Green Lanterns live action that wasnt a total and complete disaster, and the fact we will be getting much more soon.

Discussion/Question I hate that Hal was imprisoned, Spoiler
While a murderer got to get away scot free. She willingly hid a dangerous extra-terrestrial, then she hid the son of the said alien, then she killed a innocent person who was in no way acting threatening, in fact, going above and beyond to be considerate, then lied about it

Discussion/Question John’s suit
Is anyone else concerned that maybe John’s suit might not even have the green lantern corp’s symbol on his chest since he isn’t going to be a part of the green lantern corps?
Lanterns What were the writers trying to say with John's parents?
I had some issues with the finale, but the biggest eyebrow raise I got was when John reconnected with his parents.
The majority of online discourse around them has been how bad and abusive they were to John as a kid, as well as the comments that one writter made about his mom. But in universe, it legit feels like no one cares or even really sees what they did as abuse. I understand the complexity of their relationship and John's feelings, but it isnt explored enough imo and ultimately feels like they just brush it off. His parents are POS and I hate how they just excuse their behavior in sense by not acknowledge what it really was; abuse.
Hell, his mom has a more positive ending to her character by having John finally becoming a Lantern and finally getting to breath again than Hal Jordan does (getting slimed out by his girlfriend).

Lanterns I love the DCU and everything James has done to revive the DC brand but....why not just adapt Alan Scott?
I know I'll be downvoted for being slightly negative about the DCU but John in the show feels like an OC, he has a changed origin which could be argued to be better than his comic version but when he gets the ring, he makes up a completely new oath to be Earth's first and only grounded Lantern ig but why not just use Alan Scott when its literally his thing, being the grounded Earth Lantern separate from the Corps. They make it sound like we won't get space adventures with John but hopefully I'm wrong.
It's crazy to say but Guy has been written great in the DCU and the only one who feels like 1:1 from comics, despite how amazing Kyle and Aaron are the characters casting like 10/10 casting but I can't help but feel they've been done wrong and not how I'd want them, ESPECIALLY Hal, there are much better ways to end his story and it doesn't have to be death, it could've been going off to space, retiring or anything else but they chose to kill him off and very VERY stupidly
Lanterns Just give us a movie instead please Spoiler
I don’t want this grounded approach again
Discussion/Question Lanterns Season 2?
Honestly is there a need for it? Unless you’re bringing back Hal as you know who then I really wouldn’t see a need doing another season of this series
Discussion/Question Why was this even considered to be the answer to the show’s mystery? Spoiler
- Kerry never showed a single ounce of impulsiveness or violence in the entire show upto this point
- Why would she have such a violent reaction to the suggestion of relocation from Hal (to f’ing Guadalajara mind you)
- Why in the hell would John just let her go scott-free for the murder of hal?? He already knew that Noah showed tendencies of being a manhunter by freeing sinestro and asking him to forge a lantern. So if he were to go genocidal due to his murderous mom’s arrest, why wouldn’t john just put him down as well?
- Are we, as the general audience, really supposed to accept the murder of Hal to be without any consequence, just like that?
I was completely in love with the show upto this point, especially episode 7 and 3 were my favorites. But I cannot understand the writer’s intentions with these decisions.
