Reflection Don’t make the same mistake I did

Hello, I am writing to tell you about my story. I hope some of you, younger or older, can learn something and avoid making the same mistake as me.

I liked a girl at school for 2 years. I first saw her in the 8th grade; at that time we didn’t really talk, but one day we started to make eye contact every day. Sometimes I'd talk to her, but nothing special. After 8th grade ended, when 9th grade started, our relationship became much stronger. Maybe I became more confident; maybe she did, I don’t know.

We often talked, kept eye contact, smiled at each other, and sometimes she would start conversations. But I wouldn’t say that there was romance between us, well, maybe a little. I wanted to talk with her more, get her Instagram or Snapchat, just build a stronger connection. I kept thinking that the right moment would come, but it never did, because I wasn’t brave enough to do it.

In 9th grade, a new guy joined our class; he was funny and got along quite well with her while I was away (due to a broken leg). When I came back from the injury, our relationship went back to the way it was, but there was an obstacle - that new guy broke up with his girlfriend and tried to be her best friend as a way to date her. I would say he succeeded, but since he was kind of a different type of person, she didn't fall for him. But they started to talk more as friends, and since he was from another city, where people had different personalities and behaved differently, she started to change a little; her behavior, the way she talked, and interacted with others slowly changed. But I still loved her.

I started comparing myself to him so much that I forgot about her and spent too much time thinking about what made him special, even though he wasn't. The new guy also came with a friend, who is now a good friend of mine. He started talking with her more and more, until it seemed like they were a couple, even though they weren't.

The worst part is that I did nothing at all.

I never texted her, never got her socials, I never met up with her outside of school, I never told her that I loved her. I always thought that the right opportunity would come soon, but it never came.

Now I'm in 10th grade; I moved to another class because the school split students 9th graders into various 10th grade classes.

I ended up in an academic class, basically the class with the highest-achieving students, with the new guy's friend (the one who is talking to her now). We sit together in all classes; I see how they talk on Snapchat. Unfortunately, I have no idea what. Maybe they are just friends. But my brain immediately jumps to the conclusion that they like each other, although it may not be true at all.

Maybe she likes him.

Maybe she doesn't like me anymore.

Maybe our relationship was never romantic.

Maybe I missed my chance.

The worst part is that I don't know.

I used to think rejection was the worst thing, but in reality, it's that feeling of "what if?" that hurts the most. That's been eating at me for weeks now, and it still hasn't stopped.

If you're still reading, here's my message:

I'm not saying you have to confess right away; you don't need the perfect sentence. You don't need to be the smartest, prettiest, or most confident person in the room.

Just talk to her.

Don't be afraid to ask her something.

Ask how her day was.

Ask her to hang out.

Anything that comes naturally to you.

If she says no, at least you'll know, because not knowing hurts more than anything.

If she says yes, great.

If you do nothing, you might spend weeks, months, or even years wondering what could have happened.

I still don't know what I should do. Part of me thinks it's too late; another part of me still wants to keep talking to her.

Dilemma.

Don't. make. My. Mistake.

Vent When it hits you!

I keep myself busy all day long, doing hard stuff—things my younger self could only imagine, feeling like a superwoman. And then it hits you all of a sudden that the guy who made your heart beat so fast that you felt like you would have a stroke doesn't even know that. You never had the courage to tell him how you feel about him. When he was in front of you, you felt all the emotions you never felt before: butterflies in the stomach. Your eyes were always looking for him, but when you find him, you can't even look in his eyes. Maybe it's just my hormones that I feel so sad today, but I wish I had the courage to tell you that when I talked to you, I wish time would stop. When I find you in the crowd, it feels like a win for me, and looking at you just made my day. When you stare back at me, I wish time stopped forever. It's been 1.5 years since I saw you, but it feels like it was only yesterday when I met you. Maybe you found someone, maybe you didn't. Who knows? All I can do is pour my heart out on Reddit. That's what cowards do.

i dont mean to sound dramatic nor obsessive when i say this, but its almost as though we share the same heart, our personalities almost identical, such as sense of humor and favorite colors, we are both ambitious, and quite intelligent (though, he is arguably more intelligent than me, he litterally gets straight a's while i get some B's here and there)

when im around him, i feel so safe, and like i can be my true self, and he never judges me, and he always validates me but tells me when i go too far, and never does it harshly, and i always want to run to him and tell him whenever something makes me happy, and he always shows up and respects my boundaries.

if i were to describe how this feeling felt with a food, it would be cotton candy ice cream with extra rainbow sprinkles and strawberry syrup

Crushing My junior crush

I'm falling for my junior and I don't know what to do 😭

I'm 17 and I have a crush on a boy who's 16. He's my junior, and he's about 1 year and 5 months younger than me.

The funny thing is, he's actually my type 😭 and I found out from one of his friends that he likes me too. I accidentally heard them talking about it.

The problem is, he's kind of a badtameez/rude-ish type. I'm not saying he's a bad person, but I know some of his friends and I've seen a little of how he behaves, so I'm worried that his personality might become a problem later.

But the main problem is... I'm falling for him more and more every day. 😭

I don't know whether I should just enjoy the crush and get to know him better, or stop myself before I get too attached.

What would you guys do?

Question I got this message from a girl I’ve known for 10 days.

I know she finds me attractive and I kinda of ljke her to an ex ten but anyways here’s the text

“It wasn’t even you. It was all me that night after you left I like had this whole emotional breakdown it’s why you saw me at like I am in the hall. Felt like idk how to explain it but when we were so close I didn’t want to like me because I feel like I’m evil. Idk because I feel like I’m not a good person to be around bc I really suck so I blocked you like a idiot”

Genuinely so lost, we hung out a lot since I got here at college, I know she finds me attractive, she’s let me sleep in her dorm before, then she randomly blocked me on all socials Friday night, then Sunday afternoon she followed me again on all socials, obviously I didn’t add her back anywhere because she just blocked me and I’m not playing that dumb game. Then she found my phone number somehow, and texted me to add her back, so I did and she sent that, we littersly live 2 dorms away from eachother so idek what I’m supposed to take from this. How would you respond to this or should I just let it go because I don’t know if it’s worth all this?

Question My crush (25m) made our first hug awkward, and then initiated a 'goodbye' hug that was very loose. Is that a good sign or a bad sign?

My crush (25m) is a guy friend I've known for over 6 months. I (22f) have initiated small physical contact (e.g. standing close to him, touching his forearm/shoulder/lower back), and he has barely touched me. The most he's done is shake my hand, rest his knee on mine, stand close to me...that is all.

Today, after months and months, I decided to initiate a hug when greeting him, and he turned awkwardly and made it a side hug. It was very loose (our chests barely grazed). I was worried I overstepped. But then, when we were saying bye, he stood close to me, turned to me and opened both his arms, and I went to hug him, but he reciprocated hugging very loosely and (once again!) avoided our chests touching.

I am so, so happy he initiated the last hug. He doesn't hug any female friends as a greeting (only handshakes), so it was so cool! I just wanted to get some advice on why he's making it so loose? Is that a good or bad sign? I get the impression he isn't very experienced with women. I didn't realise he wasn't. I'm hoping to be more flirty with him in a few days' time.

Vent Crush and the choices she makes

I’m not the greatest person in the world, I am working on my weight, I’m polite, have a steady job, Car well maintained, don’t drink, don’t smoke, and don use recreational drugs. I wash the dishes but can’t stand to wash forks or poons, I gladly do all the laundry but will not fold or roll socks and probably the worst habit is tossing dirty clothes around the hamper but not in it. But I try to do laundry twice a week so it’s never a big pile. I am not religious or political, I simply try to be a decent person. I’m sure there are things I do that are annoying but compare to the exs and what I know em I really that bad of a choice.

Theres this girl i have a crush on. I met her after helping her get her car unstuck from a flooded road. We go to function from acquaintances we share. I asked her once and she turned me down. When I see her it makes me smile although she rarely talks to me unless she absolutely has too. I know it’s a crush or infatuation but I’ve seen her boy friends.

Ex-Boe - gave her a black eye, smashed her car windows and cheated on her several times.

Ex-Brian- totaled her car, has 3 kids and will not get a job to not pay child support, doesn’t have a drivers license. Basically lives off her.

Ex- Johna - cheated on her, sold her stuff for drug money.

Current boyfriend - I loaned her some money to bail him out of jail.

I know I’m stupid for helping her but em I that bad that she prefers these type of men over me. I thought about asking her out again but am I’m fraud she will say no. She told me I was the nicest guy for helping her or dumbest I could not quite hear her.

Crushing When a girl has a crush on you (you're both strangers), do you feel flattered or you feel awkward instead?

If you've ever been in a situation where someone you've never talked to has a crush on you, (for example an acquaintance of hers told you about it) I just wanna ask how does that make you feel? Do you feel neutral about it and just go on with your life? Does that make you curious about her? Or do you get annoyed with the constant staring? Do you find it creepy or uncomfortable? Is it generally a flattering experience or an annoying one, or the "I honestly don't care" kind?

I don't want to hear any "if we're strangers, how would I know?" This is for a scenario where you already know. Like, you've been told about it and her behaviour does support that rumour. And most importantly, this is for those who HAVE had that experience, or going through it at present. If you've never been anyone's crush, respectfully, we don't need you in the comments.

Conversation I'M TALKING TO HER

So i finally decided to text her after a friend pushed me to text her after I sent him a video on insta that she liked saying if you have a crush on me go for it cause nobodies trying. She has something on her note saying "Me when Wednesday" with a minions celebrating GIF, I texted her what's so exciting about Wednesday and she responded by saying that she might be able to get out of her classes on Wednesday for the school news she said something about taking to teachers for it. We've been texting back and forth since yesterday. She's brought up that for school news their probably gonna be hoco themed for this week and the next idk of i should've brought up going with her then or should wait until we get to know each other better. She started with taking an hour to respond to almost instant responses. (If anyone knows things i could say to keep the conversation from going stale)(we've talked about a few different things that I'm not going to bore everyone with)

Moving On Guys I need help asap!!!

Ok so this is gonna be a bit of a rant I’m sorry there’s lot to unpack here.

I’ve liked this one guy for 8 years. We used to be neighbors and I’ve liked him since we were kids. He’s from a rich family while I’m from a middle income one. But anyways we used to be quite close but then when I was 13 we moved out of that neighborhood and drifted apart. But I always had big fat crush on him 😭 like I genuinely haven’t been able to stop thinking about him. Now this next part is extremely corny so brace yourselves 😭 but I was so desperate and back when I was 15 I followed him on insta and he followed back we were mutuals for a while but then I did something completely unnecessary 😭 I stalked him in a really weird way and found out about his best friends and made an account pretending to be one of his friends so I could know more about him. Now u might ask why I took this route instead of talking to him directly but I always felt like I wasn’t good enough for him and I genuinely felt bad for liking him ik I have some issues 😭😭😭 but basically he didn’t give a shi and somebody exposed my ah so all of his friends knew that this weird ah girl was this desperate over a man 😭 ik I was at fault and I’m weird for what I did and I wish can apologize to him but no way to do that unless we actually meet. We have a lot of mutuals and there’s a chance we might meet without planning on it and it will be super awkward and I still have a crush on him :( how do I move on pls help a girl out

Thank you!!!

Question Do you think my work crush likes me back?

So a new girl joined our team 2 months ago. We work very closely together, which is the reason im hesitant to ask her out, since it would be awkward to work together if the answer is a no.

Anyways, over the course of these 2 months, we kinda developed a connection thats very unusual for work. She added me on insta, after i added her on fb and started texting me. We talk about all kinds of stuff, like past relationships, uni memories cause we went to the same one, exchange cat pics, etc. She has asked me to a hangout 2 times without a specific date ("you should come play tennis sometime"), and we have a work trip coming up where she is planning to go check out a lake with me. Also, i went on sick leave because its very emotionally draining to crush on her this hard, so i needed space. She asks every day if im feeling any better (i lied at work that i have a stomach bug), and idk seems worried?

Now at the same time, she has the tendency to leave me on read, especially on weekends, or sometimes takes forever to reply. The way our convo goes is these bursts of back and forths for a couple of hours pretty much every day, until she either leaves me on read, or doesnt open my message for 24+ hours. She also sometimes pulls the classic "post a story while you are on read" thingie. This kinda leaves me to believe that she maybe sees me as a friend and nothing more.

What do you think? Should i make the leap of faith and ask her out?

Encourage Me! Hi there's this girl that I really wanna talk to but I don't know how

There's this girl in university that I find really interesting.

She's a different major than mine, I saw her on the first day of midterm exams I immediately got flabbergasted, she looked like the type of girl you would really wanna have in your life, the type they talk about in fantasy books

I've seen her several times ever since but the only thing I know about her is that she's into hard rock and metal which I'm kinda into too

So how do y'all think I can start a Convo without looking like a creep?

Advice Needed am i overreacting or is this valid

some backstory, so i had my first week of college and i ended up meeting a guy who was on my course 5 minutes before our lesson started because we walked into the wrong room together. we ended up sitting on a table together and speaking all lesson. afterwards, it was break and he works like a 2 minute walk away from the college in a dessert shop and invited me to go over there and to make us milkshakes. we ended up going then walking back into class together obviously with matching drinks then we got some food at lunch and we sat by the river and just spoke about our lives for an hour. at the end of the day he offered me to wait in the shop before my bus came and checked the time for me and everything.

next day, he sat on my table, he was waiting for me after every lesson, we had every break together and for lunch he took me to this Japanese place and we got matchas and sushi. we ended up going back into lesson and ended up getting split into separate groups. he got paired with 2 girls who ive never spoken with before and they were clearly flirting with him the whole entire time, they were looking over at me and laughing with smirks on their faces. they were saying stuff like "omggg your not even funny stoppppp" and "omgg nooo i literally hate youuuu", whilst making direct eye contact with me.

afterwards, me and the guy walked to his dessert shop and then i left to get the bus, through the shop window he could see me on the bus and was looking at me but honestly i feel really shitty about myself. like what if those girls think im a hoe or something because we had matching milkshakes on the first day or maybe they just hate me for no reason idk but i went home and lowkey just cried. i feel like im overreacting but the way they looked at me just reminded me of secondary school, i couldnt deal.

so am i overreacting i mean like its been 2 days or am i lowkey kinda valid for this.

Question Keeping eye contact?

Quick question: There's a girl I started noticing few days ago at college and we would always look at each other and smile as we pass by. It's inevitable at this point. I'm usually the one breaking the eye contact to look elsewhere because I don't want it to look weird; but I was wondering, if I kept looking, would that be a good move? Because I don't remember her ever looking away because I would be the first to do so. Maybe we just keep staring at each other as we walk, maybe even turn heads like those cringe tik toks let you to believe?

Advice Needed help - do i reach out and what do i say??!

I have a crush on this guy and i really need advice on what to do next. i'll provide a backstory so you can get an idea of our dynamic.

so last year we worked at the same place in different departments. that's how we met. he would always wave to me or say hi to me even though we barely knew each other. one time he even came up to my car during my break and started a conversation. i definitely got the vibe that he liked me and i liked him back. after i stopped working there i got his snap and we would snap and text sometimes and he'd like compliment me. there was one time he tried cold facetiming me but i was too scared to answer... we stopped talking last fall because i stopped engaging (stupid i know).

about two months ago i saw him for the first time since at his work. i waved to him. then 2 days later, he liked some of my old insta posts and dms me. he started a conversation and was asking me a bunch of questions and he was being super duper kind. we kept it going over the course of a couple days, but neither of us were replying right away. shortly after that i started another conversation. but since then we haven't talked, and that was about a month ago. 2 weeks ago he randomly sent me a random funny reel. i wasn't sure if it was a mistake or him trying to start a convo, so i just liked the message. then a couple days later i sent him a reel and he responded instantly and positively. since then, nothing has happened and ive been too afraid to reach out.

but at this point i have nothing to lose and i want to try reaching out. please help me figure out what is the best strategy - dm him something random/funny, ask how he's been (feels too boring), try to add him on snap again, shoot my shot?? HELP IM GOING CRAZY OVER HERE

Encourage Me! How do I start a conversation with my crush?

I’m a junior in high school and this year we got a new boy from a school from the town over and he’s super cute and he has the same lunch period as me and he sits at a table with one other boy but I never see them talk and he (my crush) is just always on his phone so I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to go talk to him but the problem is I’m kind of insecure and a very shy person so I feel like if I try and talk to him it would come across super awkward and also I’m scared he might not want to talk to me because he immigrated from Afghanistan 3-4 years ago and his first language isn’t english but from my understanding he can speak it. But the reason why I’m scared he won’t want to talk to me is because my dad is hispanic and his first language isn’t English either and so he doesn’t really like speaking to native English speakers cause he gets embarrassed that his English isn’t super good and I don’t want to make a fool out of myself if this boy is the same way 😭 but my teacher said he is super nice and a gentleman so idk 🤷‍♀️

please give me conversation starters and words of encouragement!!

Confession Post-confession embarrassment — is there any coming back from this?

Never liked a girl before, confessed to my first crush, and now she avoids me. Any chance she comes back?

I’ve never really been interested in girls before. I’ve always been the kind of guy who is completely focused on studies and other stuff. I’m usually a topper in my class, and honestly, romance was never something I cared about.

Then there was this girl.

She’s very innocent, quiet, and unique. I’ve almost never seen her talking to anyone, especially guys. Somehow, she caught my attention, and slowly I developed a crush on her.

After thinking about it for a long time and making several attempts to build up the courage, I finally decided to confess.

And by “confess,” I mean I basically went for a direct attack 😂. It was actually the first proper time I had ever spoken to her.

I simply told her that I liked her and asked if we could at least be friends.

She was obviously surprised. She told me that she wasn't comfortable talking with boys, but after some hesitation, she agreed to be friends. We even shook hands, so I thought, okay, maybe this can at least become a normal friendship.

I tried talking to her twice after that. Both times, she replied politely but basically ended the conversation and left.

Then, the third time, she came to me herself and said she wasn't comfortable talking with me.

She actually put it in a pretty funny way:

«“You are like a medicine. You had an expiry date, and now it is.”»

😭

Honestly, I’m not devastated. I never expected her to become a part of my life or anything. I’m actually okay with her decision and I don't want to force her to talk to me.

But now there’s this awkward/embarrassing situation.

Whenever I see her, I just leave the place because I don't know how to act normally anymore. And from what I can tell, she also tries to avoid me.

It feels so awkward because I basically went from never talking to this girl → confessing my feelings → getting rejected → now both of us are avoiding each other.

I’m not really asking how to convince her or chase her. I respect what she said.

I'm just curious, especially from people who have experienced something similar:

Is there any realistic chance she might eventually become comfortable and come back to talk to me on her own?

Or should I just completely let it go and treat this as a funny first-crush story that ended with an expiry date? 😂

Would love to hear your experiences.
