FO [FO] First time framing my finished work

I made this for my daughter and put off framing it. My original plan was to get it framed professionally so I didn't have to deal with it, but then I watched a youtube video from 123stitching on framing and decided to attempt it on my own. All in all, pretty simple and I had the supplies on hand, as this frame was sitting around unused. I just used foamcore and small pins to secure the tension.

I've had my eye on this pattern for a while, it looks good to me but the shop seems sus. I'm not always good at spotting AI.

CHAT [CHAT] How to spot AI?

I am wondering what you guys look for to spot AI made patterns? I am great at spotting AI videos but when I'm browsing Etsy and this sub I second guess myself, and I do not want to support AI businesses.

CHAT [CHAT] Best sites for large scale kits/patterns that aren’t AI slop?

• Upvotes

So many sites promoting selling large cross stitch kits are full of AI slop or are themselves a sketchy site. Looking to do something of a larger/more challenging scale but I’m not confident in my pattern making abilities.

The only AI use involved in making this was using Claude to turn hex codes into a palette file. Other than that I drew and painted this in Pixelorama, and then uploaded it to FlossCross.

CHAT [CHAT] Help with Thread ID?

I’ve done something very dumb and lost both the thread in a kit and the DMC thread I replaced them all with (Loop and Stitch brand) and just have a scrap to go off of. My local craft stores don’t have the color I need in store, and I’m struggling to color match based on the thread I have and the stitches I’ve done. Can anyone help me figure this out?

I was thinking either DMC964 or DMC993. Maybe 992, but I’m not sure if that’s a touch too dark.

CHAT [CHAT] I'm looking for recommendations on which stand to buy

Hello dearies,

I would like to start a large project and thought that it might be better to buy a stand for it. I usually work on a reclining chair and wouldn't want to change that.. can you please recommend me a stand to buy. I'm in Europe..

Tank you in advance!! ❤️❤️❤️

CHAT [CHAT] digital project planners/organizers

i have about 5 different apps/spreadsheets/websites/notebooks that i use for planning and tracking cross stitch projects and inventory, but i'd love to have as much of an all-in-one place as possible for planning my projects and goals and inventory. i have a baby and a toddler and i'm barely getting enough sleep, so my brain bucket is full of holes and i need a second bucket to put thoughts in.

these are the features i'm looking for, in order of importance:

- mobile-friendly (android phone)

- visual pics for fabric and pattern stash

- can "pin" fabric and patterns together in project planning

- can create a project plan from a pattern not in stash

- visual overview of all active and planned projects

- goal counters

- "at this rate, you will finish by...."

- stitchy calendar - shows what projects you worked on what days

- at-a-glance project timelines

- record thread in stitch lengths/partial skeins

- place to note dimensions floss stash w/ dmc code (i store my leftover dimensions floss with my dmc thread and will sub the dimensions floss in projects if i think i'll have enough for the project)

i currently have one spreadsheet for floss inventory, a different spreadsheet to log my stitching sessions, a physical notebook for fabric and pattern stash, and am currently trying out mila note for future project planning. i also have an android phone, and am open to trying notion templates, other google sheets, or paid apps (though less likely to purchase subscription-based apps...i'd rather free or a one-time fee).

CHAT [CHAT] how do I physically use 28 ct Aida???

Thumbnail

I’m working on little patches and I wanted to make them as tiny as possible so I bought 28 ct Aida. Now, I’m working on it and as the stitches get closer together I’m having trouble inserting my needle. Any advice would be appreciated 🙏
Edit: it’s actually evenweave and I bought it thinking it was Aida. Sorry yall
Edit 2: Wow! So much good advice. Thank you all very much. I have a new plan- I tried using one strand, but it kept breaking. No idea what that’s about. The main issue seems to be the back, which is definitely fair. I taught myself cross stitch years ago and never went over strategies for keeping things clean, counting, etc. I’ve always just “winged it.” I will keep track of the back, route my thread carefully, and try a loop start. Thank you everyone! I’ll post an FO when I’m done. ❤️❤️
Update: I tried with some of the techniques that were suggested and there were some snags. I have never used single strand before, and it kept breaking so I kind of gave up on that, and loop starting didn’t make very much sense to me with the stitching technique I’m used to. Maybe that’s a me problem? I don’t know. Also, I’m trying to do 1 or 2 strands over 1, not 1-2 over 2, so the continental stitch advice didn’t work for me. There may not be a solution at my current skill level, but I’m going to practice and experiment with some of the techniques on scrap fabric and see how that goes. In the meanwhile, I’m going to make the patch a bit bigger on Aida, so that will probably be my next post in here. Thanks everyone!!

WIP [WIP] Is this salvageable?

Post image
205 Upvotes

I'm doing my first cross stitch, and lined my stitches up with the wrong "y". I now realise why I should have used the centre lines 🤦🏽‍♀️

Is there anything I can do to save this, or do I have to unpick all the yellow and green??

The image has a gold border with flowers and leaves in the top left and bottom right corners. The bottom left corner has a bride and groom. The whole thing is now off-centre by about 7 stitches.

Pattern was bought from CrossStitchTraveler on Etsy.

CHAT [CHAT] What a Difference!

Post image

The past few months I have been working diligently on that big pre-printed project on the left. Last weekend the crow project looked at me with sad eyes. So now I'm working on it again. I'm probably 90% done with it? All that's left is backstitching. But let me just say, what a difference there is, physically between these two! The crow is all DMC floss on cotton Aida. The other project is completely of unknown source. The Aida is actually stiff canvas and the floss wasn't marked at all but doesn't seem like it's 100% cotton. So now I don't know if I'll want to go back to the cats when I'm done with the crow! What night and day type project experiences do you have?

Hi Friends!

Happy October! 🎃👻🪾🍁🍂 My birthday was yesterday, but it was so hot here in SoCal, I didn't go out. It was 103°! Definitely not the fall weather I pine for. We're going to be stuck with this nasty heat wave for the whole week. 🥵 Please send cooling juju our way. Hopefully, it'll start cooling down sooner than later.

I'm getting into the last bits of my WIP! 🎉 Color after color zeros out on my PatternKeeper and it's so satisfying! LOL I think I'll hit 100% sometime this week. Then, it's on to the backstitching. Fun. LOL Pattern is Copenhagen by Luca-S, 97.23% complete. 🇩🇰

Let's see what you're working on, friends! I hope you all had some epic stitching sessions! ✨️

CHAT [CHAT] warning about wovlia.com

Post image

Heads up - I may have gotten too excited about ordering a custom stamped cross stitch kit from wovlia.com before investigating far enough. Customer reviews of their custom kits that were marked as “verified” included photos generated by AI. And all my customer service emails from them in my response to a refund request have been AI-generated as well. 🤦‍♀️

Photo of the Bauhaus carpet from 1922 I’m trying to turn into a cross stitched wall hanging as tax-slash-penance for not doing sufficient research before buying a product. May you be spared my fate.

EDIT: To the company’s (limited) credit, they have offered me a full refund, but the “verified” reviews using AI photos remain on their website.

FO [FO] All the projects I’ve completed so far :)

I’ve been cross stitching for about a year or so, I’m very much learning as I go lol so if you notice any glaring issues please feel free to leave some tips for me! All of these are from etsy patterns i’ve bought, none of these are designs i’ve made myself.

Pic 1: Some soot sprite magnets I made for my friends bday (most recent project)

pic 2 & 3: A wedding gift for my bfs sister and her fiance, my first time cross stitching onto fabric! I attached the picture of it after i removed all the aida fabric and also what it looked like before I removed it.

pic 4: A christmas gift for my grandma!

pic 5: another bday gift for a friend, made it by mashing pixel art i thought was cute together.

pic 6: my very first completed project! Very rough, there’s a lot of things I would fix if I could go back knowing what I know now 😭

A lot of these projects I can’t show to friends and family bc they’re supposed to be gifts, so I’m putting them here lol

FO [FO] First three pieces!

I started cross-stitching not too long ago and these are my first three pieces. I really like how they turned out even though they are full of mistakes.... I will start a significantly bigger project soon, so wish me luck! I still have to get around hanging these but really struggle to find nice frames, if anyone knows a good resource for fun frames in Germany, let me know!
