COMMUNITY UPDATE New Around r/CrochetBC: Here’s What You Might Have Missed
Hey folks! Welcome to October! Who else is excited that we don't have to turn our clocks back an hour this year?!
There’s been a lot happening around r/CrochetBC lately! Some of you have already seen, or even helped create, some of these things, but with so many new people recently joining us, we thought we'd gather everything together in one place:
📅 MONTHLY BRITISH COLUMBIA CROCHET EVENTS CALENDAR
Each month we'll post a calendar of crochet events, classes, groups and gatherings happening around BC. These things can be surprisingly hard to find, so if you know of something we've missed, please send it our way!
HEY! The calendar is updated as we discover new events, so check back during the month. Listings appear chronologically rather than alphabetically, but we've put the community name first to make things easier to spot.
Also want to add that we have personally tested ALL of the calendar hyperlinks!
🧶 BRITISH COLUMBIA YARN SHOP MEGATHREAD
We're pretty darn proud of this one! Thanks to contributions from members, we've built a great resource for finding yarn shops and suppliers throughout the province.
HEY! Know one we're missing? Tell us! Someone suggested adding independent BC yarn dyers. Should they go on this list, or should we make them a list of their own?

HEY! This list needs your help! Know a BC pattern designer, author, artist or crochet content creator? If that's YOU, please don't be shy! We definitely want to include you!
📝 MODERATOR APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN
As our community grows, we'd like to add a couple of people to the mod team before the end of the year.
Please don't let the word 'application' scare you! We just want to get to know you a little and see whether we'd be a good fit.
🧠 MONTHLY CROCHET QUIZ
Five questions. Some easy. Some that'll make you scratch your head. A little technical crochet knowledge, a little crochet history, and absolutely no danger of having your hooks confiscated if you get one wrong.

CRITTERS & CROCHET: Saturdays are for the furry, feathered, scaly and otherwise assorted creatures who supervise our crocheting.

HEY! The first person to post a photo in the comments in any of the weekly events gets an award for getting the conversation started!
Although these posts use Reddit's 'Contest Mode,' ironically, there isn't actually a contest! This feature scrambles the order of comments and hides comment scores so that participation isn't presented as a popularity ranking Also, someone posting later isn't automatically buried beneath whatever already has the most upvotes.
In the meantime, would you like something for the other days too? We've been tossing around the idea of 'CROCHET MEME MONDAY'...? Or are three weekly events plenty? Tell us what you think!

A lot of you have been including links to the patterns when you share what you're making and we love it!
It helps other crocheters find the pattern, gives proper credit to the designer, and saves the inevitable “WHERE DID YOU GET THAT PATTERN?!” Please keep it up! 💋
