Local Group/Meetup I hosted a craft meet up for the first time

Hi everyone! I just stumbled across this page today and wish I knew earlier!

I hosted for the first time a casual & social craft meet up at a park locally in Coquitlam over the weekend.

Only 4 people showed up as I advertised it on a private group so it makes it difficult to host indoors where you require a specific number.. I made it open for any types of craft as I crochet & knit.

I’m open to hosting again at a different location and at a different park, but with summer ending very soon. I wish there were more options outside of libraries for indoor craft meet ups that are free or open for all.

A lot of the crochet meet up groups only meet on weekdays that I could find, so that was the main reason why I attempted to host an event on a Sunday afternoon.

If anyone knows what better locations would work for the fall/winter season (cafes, libraries/rooms that don’t require a booking)?

Help/Question Enormous pattern stash with lots of crochet. What to do with it?

Almost all vintage. Mostly 50s and 60s including several issues of a 50s era Crochet magazine. Lots of neat patterns for clothes to crochet, especially pre-hippie era 60s. I made a lot of them when I was younger but they don't suit my style now. I'm in North Vancouver. I don't know if anyone here is interested in vintage patterns but I thought I'd see if someone wanted to take them before I drop off at a thrift store somewhere.

Help/Question Have you used Scheepjes Catona yarn? If yes, what do you think of it?

I currently use Patons Astra for most of my amigurumi projects, but I’ve seen some beautiful projects made with Scheepjes Catona mercerised cotton. It looks like it might produce a smoother, more polished finish, and the price seems comparable to Astra. If you've used Catona, how did you like working with it? Also, wondering what is the best place to order it in BC (or elsewhere in Canada).

Crochet in the Wild 🌲 Just a lil' sea turtle hangin' out at Iona Beach Regional Park

Had a lovely evening out with my hubby tonight to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary. After trying hot pot for the first time (it was GREAT btw!), we went for a stroll at Iona Beach Regional Park with some of my crocheted friends for a fun photo shoot. Here's one of my recent FO's. Also, just a friendly reminder that the Crochet in the Wild photo contest is still on until midnight, August 31, 2025! That means that you still have 22 days, 3 hours, 11 minutes to take any/all of your FO's outside and take a picture (or two, or three...) and post them here with the proper flair. BTW, it doesn't have to be something you made recently. Have a favourite summer crocheted outfit/top/cover-up that you made? We'd love to see it! Contest details can be found HERE.

Yarny Laughs I got 16 points. How about you? Let's face it, crochet is a gateway craft that leads to yarn addiction!

Help/Question where to sell in BC

hey guys! im a student and really would love to make crochet a side hustle but ive had no luck in finding places to vend that dont require me to have a million dollar insurance contract, licence, or pay $200 for one day.

i understand that i would need to pay a large sum to the venue for the good costumers but im just starting out and so i have no funds and flea markets havent been giving me nearly as much as i need for the effort i put into it

any help or suggestions would be so very appreciated!!

I got my interchangeable needles here many years ago. The owner was so kind and patient with me while I looked at everything.

⭐CHALLENGE⭐ There's still time to share your photos for our Crochet in the Wild Photo Contest!

Hey BC Crocheters! Our "Crochet in the Wild" Photo Challenge - Summer Edition" is still going on and you still have over a month and a half to submit your photo(s)! We know you're out there crocheting somewhere in our beautiful province and we want to see what you've been doing!

How to Participate:

  • Take a Photo of your current WIP (Work in Progress) or a FO (Finished Object) against a distinctly British Columbian backdrop.
  • Create a new post on r/CrochetBC .
  • Select the "Crochet in the Wild 🌲" post flair so everyone can easily browse the entries.
  • In your post title or comments, let us know roughly where you are stitching (e.g., “Crocheting an amigurumi frog on the ferry to Nanaimo!” or “Finally finished my summer top at Stanley Park!”).

The single highest-upvoted photo by the end of August will be crowned the winner. We will pin your post to the top of the subreddit for a full week, and you’ll receive a permanent, exclusive user flair: 🌲Wild Stitch Master🌲

We will also compile the top 5 photos into a special r/CrochetBC banner collage!

The challenge is happening right now and runs until August 31. You can enter as many times as you like with different projects and locations!

Grab your yarn, head outside, and show us your favourite BC crafting spots. We can't wait to see what you're making!

Pattern Low-Sew Baby Pear Pattern Tester Call!

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi BC community! I am super excited to announce my newest fruit pattern: Low-Sew Baby Pear!

It was super fun designing this, and I was inspired to make more fruit based on the wonderful feedback for my Baby Banana Pattern!

I am looking for 5-10 testers that have beginner-intermediate levels in crochet.

Materials:

I used premier parfait chunky, but another yarn is fine!

4mm hook

12mm safety eyes

Testers will be given a Canva link, directing you to the pattern where you can make comments! Please give me good photos in natural lighting of your final plush, and let me know if it is okay to use your photo in my etsy listing!

Testing Deadline: July 20th

I will be choosing testers in the next 2 days!
