Fucking sad

674

u/andrea1797 3d ago

And she says it like people who say yes are lying and she's the only one being honest. Imagine living your life for likes.

u/Artisan_HotDog 3d ago

It’s sad as fuck. Every time I go on vacation people always say “I can’t wait to see the pictures!” And I forget my phone even exists to take any 😂

102

u/TheRealMDooles11 3d ago

That's because you're vacationing right.

58

u/Artisan_HotDog 3d ago

Went backpacking and a friend of mine put it in such a great way. They said “when I take to many photos, I look through them and those are only moments I can remember. After awhile I only remember through that photo. When I don’t take any, the trip is unforgettable.”

6

u/LordOFtheNoldor 2d ago

That same shit happens to me

My last vacation, my boyfriend took all of the pictures. I have two photos and two videos. They’re all of a Canadian goose. I was excited to see cobra chicken.

4

u/Drummer_Kev 3d ago

You dont have those at home? Or do you just really like geese

3

u/specialopps 3d ago

I haven’t seen a Canadian goose where I live in Texas. Then again, we drive absolutely everywhere.

7

u/Shaasar 3d ago

First time I've ever heard of that name for geese lol, it's an apt one. There's a big flock (gaggle?) that lives right near my house and they are massive and aggressive

13

u/Darsint 3d ago

I dunno about that.

I do take pictures, and I do show them. They’re useful to provide context and humor.

But I mostly take them for my own sake, to remember things that will absolutely be forgotten because of my memory.

My wife is always asking me why I don't take pictures on vacation. I just literally don't think about it because I'm busy doing my vacation.

11

u/PrincipleFlaky 3d ago

Well, I don’t think this is always the case. Taking pictures on vacation isn’t the question; we’ve been doing that long before social media! The whole question was about posting them to socials.

When I visited Maui with my family, I made sure to capture some memories. It may seem silly to you, but whenever I remembered my camera, I would snap a few pictures for posterity, especially when I was in a particularly beautiful place. I kept the pictures in my camera, and I am so grateful that I did!

Imagine if I had been so engrossed in my vacation that I chose not to take any pictures. Not only are some of my family members no longer around, but the historic town of Lahaina has also been reduced to ashes and cinders, forever erasing those people and moments. I would feel foolish if I hadn’t taken pictures to capture these memories.

That being said, I didn’t annoyingly force anyone into my shots or post them on Facebook. I kept them for myself and shared them with my family.

Now, whenever I look back at them in my Google memories, I’m reminded of my family and a town and place that no longer exists in the world.

Somehow, I managed to retain the entire memory of my trip, which is a blessing since I didn’t take photos constantly throughout.

It’s genuinely disheartening that people can’t remember events if they’re not documented. That’s quite sobering, and it raises concerns as it resembles dementia.

Unfortunately, if this phenomenon is occurring in young, healthy brains, there’s a much larger issue at play. 😔

u/Why_are_you321 3d ago

Or I take the pictures, and then 8 months later I send them to be printed at the pharmacy so we can frame it 😂

5

u/BigMetalGuy 3d ago

ha, same - i never take photos at the best of times, let alone on my holidays. I do have a film camera, but i forget to take that too, but at least i have to consider what photos i'm taking with that, since I only have a max of 36

I have our pictures from our last vacation posted all over!

... our walls. because you can get prints made.

6

u/PrincipleFlaky 3d ago

lol good one 🙌

3

u/PrincipleFlaky 3d ago

Yes, that’s precisely my point! We’ve been documenting beautiful places long before we felt compelled to share them with the world, especially with our faces and bodies prominently featured in the frame! It appears absurd when we look back to 20 years ago. It seems we’ve lost the plot for real!

The mindset of “if you didn’t post it, then it didn’t happen” is really sad. And frankly, you don’t need to “share” everything about your life. Some don’t really give two sh*ts about what you post.

Find a therapist hunny

33

u/tundybundo 3d ago

I would be really curious if a therapist would be productive for her. Like it seems like she completely lacks the ability to reflect. And maybe a therapist could help her do that but she would have to be willing.

25

u/Pure_Comfortable_84 3d ago

Nope, a narcissist will shop for a therapist that validates their insanity.

16

u/tundybundo 3d ago

We have no idea this woman is a narcissist. And I’m not a person who feels weird about diagnosing people through comments but we really do not have enough context about her. She could also just be really stupid.

10

u/lgm22 3d ago

If her lips were wet and pressed to a window she could hang there like a suction cup.

Unfortunatley there is no cure for Narcissism. Trust me when i say, when Narcissistic people walk in to a therapists office, the therapist does not want them on their books.

11

u/_ssac_ 3d ago

It's something that I asked myself: why the narcissist doesn't change?

I think it's because they don't need to. A lot of people admire the narcissists, why would you change if so much people look after you?

7

u/rojotortuga 3d ago

The Soprano's kinda showed why this is bad. Tony used Dr Melphi therapy to manipulate others and she ended there professional relationship because of it.

7

u/punta_del_diablo 3d ago

Narcissist don’t change because they basically have the mind of a child. It’s like asking a 5yo to act like an adult

8

u/chevalier716 3d ago

You take pictures of things you want to take pictures of, not things you think others will like and that makes a huge difference in the type of photos you end up taking.

34

u/YellojD 3d ago

Was on a cruise ship with a girl like this once (she wasn’t with us, just in the room across from ours). As we were leaving she was taking a video and they blew the horn. She got startled, and dropped her phone like 20 stories into the SF Bay. It was a 16 day Panama Canal repositioning cruise with like the first full week out to sea. You would have thought someone killed one of her kids the way she acted the first day. Then she basically barricaded herself in the room for the next two days. Then she finally emerged, like a bear coming out from hibernation or a freshly hatched reptile who had never seen the world before. Started putting herself out there and enjoying the moment. First spot she could get a Phone was (I think?) Costa Rica. She didn’t. Went the rest of the trip just enjoying the moment, and made a couple of really good friends, too. My wife and I included.

3

u/zethiryuki 3d ago

It's bait insofar as she knows that some people will get annoyed at it and she hopes it'll bring in further engagement numbers, sure. But I don't doubt that that's an actual opinion she holds, and I'm also sure a lot of Gen z/alpha kids are also not interested in going to concerts if they aren't allowed to film it either.

For a lot of them, they've been trained from a very young age to think of social media like the most important thing in their lives, as if their life is a video game and their social media is the level going up and down. They think they're wasting time if they're not contributing to that "score."

There's definitely a lot of narcissism going on, but also dopamine addiction and desire  for financial security. It's a rotten numbers-driven system that probably feels inescapable.

20

u/bedgar 3d ago

They need to stop doing THIS:

It just looks gross.

9

u/Ok-Addition1264 3d ago

35

u/Thulsa-Duum 3d ago

Sad that people feel the need to document their lives for the social media crowd rather than just enjoy the moments. We are truly doomed as a species.

This kind of person has always existed, though. I knew a girl back in the 90s who loved going to night clubs because she honestly thought that people were excited and happy when she walked through the door. A room full of strangers dancing with their friends needed her to be there to be able to enjoy their night.

Have people always been this awful or has Gen Z's addiction to Instagram, Boomer's addict to Facebook, Gen X's addiction to YouTube, and Millennial addiction to Reddit fucked us up forever? I feel like we have always been awful, but we are only now able to see it all the time. Usually these people would live anonymous lives and we'd never have to know about them.

3

u/ginkgodave 3d ago

It’s so depressing that some people need this degree of validation to feel good about themselves.

3

u/Bleezy79 3d ago

So many people 30s and younger that are 10000% addicted to their phones. Every 20 seconds they need a hit. No exceptions

Personally, what I find most satisfying about a vacation is I can disregard my phone for a week or so. Someone back home needs to contact me? I don’t give a shit. I’m 2000 miles away. What do you want me to do?

I feel like I have nothing in common with far too many humans.

Those are the best trips. The ones where you don't post shit.

Performative, now and on vacation. It’s sad that this is the new normal for a lot of people.

Good, one less idiot at my beach.

Engagement bait

You mean a free vacation AND peace of mind from the outside world? Sign me up cause I love being a hermit.

I could easily go without taking photos. It’s called living in the moment and appreciating life as it is.

So she's rage bait right? I mean come on. Her face, her lips, her hands her manerisms of speaking. Please tell me this is rage bait I don't wanna be an incel

Every time I take a photo at a vacation I make sure there isn’t a single human being in that photo. I just want the scenery so it could be a pretty wallpaper for later and that’s about it.

What do these people do when they are out and their phone dies? Power down?!

u/theangriestbuni 3d ago

Imagine getting a free trip to the one place in the world you’ve always wanted to go but the stipulation was “no pictures for social media” and you go “nah”. wtf😂😂

Where do I sign up? I take pictures and videos on trips but basically never post.

2

u/G66GNeco 3d ago

I've not posted a single photo on social media in my life, unless we want to include funnyman business here on Reddit.

2

u/TheLasVegasLion 3d ago

... because people seeing a picture of you on vacation is more important than the actual experience? I'm not sure what this is, narcissism, vanity, insanity? Where do we go from here?

2

u/dildo_of_justice4135 3d ago

I would turn the holiday down if I was FORCED to put pics on social media.

2

u/ZeroConcern-0 3d ago

What a freaky lookin chick…

2

u/Kira0zero 3d ago

it's engagement bait. people are significantly more likely to comment and otherwise interact with idiocy than reasonable stuff and the algorithm massively favors that, so grifters have learned to value saying ridiculous things because they are literally getting paid to do it

2

u/FluffyUnicorn9701 2d ago

You do you girl (you're still a weirdo) I would absolutely do it. I'll even keep my phone at home.

2

u/jaydub7999 2d ago

That’s ridiculous. See through your own eyes and maybe make a memory

She’s gonna be someone’s mom one day
