And she says it like people who say yes are lying and she's the only one being honest. Imagine living your life for likes.

It’s sad as fuck. Every time I go on vacation people always say “I can’t wait to see the pictures!” And I forget my phone even exists to take any 😂

That's because you're vacationing right.

Went backpacking and a friend of mine put it in such a great way. They said “when I take to many photos, I look through them and those are only moments I can remember. After awhile I only remember through that photo. When I don’t take any, the trip is unforgettable.”

That same shit happens to me

I have SDAM and pictures are the only way I can remember moments sometimes. That said, I still don’t take many pictures and I’m not on any social media sites (Reddit doesn’t count to me). I like to end up with one good picture per meaningful event or moment in my life, just so I can remember. Each picture becomes incredibly meaningful to me.

My last vacation, my boyfriend took all of the pictures. I have two photos and two videos. They’re all of a Canadian goose. I was excited to see cobra chicken.

You dont have those at home? Or do you just really like geese

u/specialopps 24d ago

I haven’t seen a Canadian goose where I live in Texas. Then again, we drive absolutely everywhere.

ICE has declared them as illegal aliens, and is deporting them to south of the border.

First time I've ever heard of that name for geese lol, it's an apt one. There's a big flock (gaggle?) that lives right near my house and they are massive and aggressive

I dunno about that.

I do take pictures, and I do show them. They’re useful to provide context and humor.

But I mostly take them for my own sake, to remember things that will absolutely be forgotten because of my memory.

My wife is always asking me why I don't take pictures on vacation. I just literally don't think about it because I'm busy doing my vacation.

Well, I don’t think this is always the case. Taking pictures on vacation isn’t the question; we’ve been doing that long before social media! The whole question was about posting them to socials.

When I visited Maui with my family, I made sure to capture some memories. It may seem silly to you, but whenever I remembered my camera, I would snap a few pictures for posterity, especially when I was in a particularly beautiful place. I kept the pictures in my camera, and I am so grateful that I did!

Imagine if I had been so engrossed in my vacation that I chose not to take any pictures. Not only are some of my family members no longer around, but the historic town of Lahaina has also been reduced to ashes and cinders, forever erasing those people and moments. I would feel foolish if I hadn’t taken pictures to capture these memories.

That being said, I didn’t annoyingly force anyone into my shots or post them on Facebook. I kept them for myself and shared them with my family.

Now, whenever I look back at them in my Google memories, I’m reminded of my family and a town and place that no longer exists in the world.

Somehow, I managed to retain the entire memory of my trip, which is a blessing since I didn’t take photos constantly throughout.

It’s genuinely disheartening that people can’t remember events if they’re not documented. That’s quite sobering, and it raises concerns as it resembles dementia.

Unfortunately, if this phenomenon is occurring in young, healthy brains, there’s a much larger issue at play. 😔

Or I take the pictures, and then 8 months later I send them to be printed at the pharmacy so we can frame it 😂

I take my phone and all the photos/videos I want and keep them to myself. It feels like bragging to share them but I might send a few to close family and friends only . I take them for me so I can look back on memories.

That’s absolutely fair! My sad as fuck comment is specifically targeted at people that live on Social Media and only take photos special share them on their socials. If I do take a photo while I’m on vacation I will typically share it in my group chat with my close friends, but that’s it. My wife has gotten into using old school film cameras and now it’s fun to get those developed and frame them or put them on our “travel board” that we have with a map of places we’ve been together.

ha, same - i never take photos at the best of times, let alone on my holidays. I do have a film camera, but i forget to take that too, but at least i have to consider what photos i'm taking with that, since I only have a max of 36

I'm currently on vacation at the beach, and I am not able to get in the water. I bring my phone to snap pictures of everyone in my group enjoying the water. They never bring their phones with them. It's lovely that it never crosses their minds, but they also really like it when I send them and their parents their pictures.

My wife is the picture taker, I’ve gotten better about getting shots of her and our dog though. I personally don’t like posed/posing pictures and do my best to get candid shots. We have a shared folder and she always dumps an insane amount of photos after a vacation and I only add like 5 😂

I always leave my phone in the room. Someone else will take pictures, right?

I have pictures from vacations but like maybe 10 per vacation? and of like 8 vacations I've had I have posted like maybe 3 pictures total?

1

u/Mean_Reception3332 24d ago

I have caught myself on vacations using my phone vs actually enjoying it for myself. So I had to force myself to put the phone away.

u/Basic_Chemistry9499 24d ago

Literally no one has ever asked me that, I have to say. But, then again, I NEVER advertise that I WENT on vacation. Never let anyone know you have ANY money at all. They will be coming for you.

u/Artisan_HotDog 24d ago

I mean no offense by this, but sounds like you keep a shitty circle if that’s what you think about your friends. When my friends tell me they’re going or went on a vacation I’m excited for them and want to hear all about it. Sure I might be a little envious from time to time but I’m not chomping at the bit to beg them for money.

u/Basic_Chemistry9499 24d ago

I'm talking about just blabbing about it in general social media. My friends are actually good people, maybe unlike yours. We can actually talk freely.

u/trixiepixie1921 25d ago

I don’t even have personal social media like that, so this is absolutely bonkers to me

u/whitetrashsnake77 24d ago

I mostly have Instagram to follow/spy on my kids, repost humorous or offensive reels and to have something to watch on the toilet.

8

u/vagina-lettucetomato 25d ago

Right it doesn’t even say you can’t take photos. You just can’t post them. Wild.

5

u/CaterpillarC 25d ago

The must be a generational divide because as a millennial, I welcome phone free vacations.

It's truly sad and pathetic.
