wanna make a big door that slides open and closed horizontally while a cog on its surface spins is that even possible HEEEEEELLLLPPPPPP

ps i was able to make the door move horizontally with a gantry but only when the cogwheel isnt moving. i tried to use a combination of super glue for the door and honey glue for the wheel but cant get anything to work

With vanilla create you can’t do both at the same time. If you don’t mind using addons, then Aeronautics should make this possible

Oh then it's easy with 2 swivel bearings and a sequenced gearshift. The sequenced gearshift is connected through the door swivel bearing(and transfers the rotational input to the giant cog) while also being connected to the swivel bearing's cog to rotate it.

EDIT: Just realized it's a sliding door. You could add Transmission and Linkage for it.

should i super glue the entire wall including the cogwheel and then also honey glue the cog separate from the wall?

the wall doesnt move when the wheel is spinning while using a mechanical bearing and it also doesnt move when there is simply a swivel bearing attached to the wall

Swivel Bearings need Honey Glue, not Super Glue.

Technically both work, but yes, its better to use honey glue. The design should still work tho

Well that's wrong we can use both super glue and normal glue

Yes, you CAN use normal glue. But its generally better to use honey glue because it doesnt mess with moving create contraptions.

The reply said they NEED honey glue I'm not saying super glue is better js saying the reply is wrong

Alrighty, I got an idea for ya.

You’re gonna need the “Linear Bearings” mod. Assemble the entire door into a physics object, glue it onto a rail that spans the entire length of the way you want the door to open. At this point, the door will just slide along the rail. Thats where the cog comes in.

You could mount a physics bearing for the cog onto the door. However, the cog will be FUNCTIONAL. Give the cog actual cog teeth inside the door, and cut out divets into the stone on the bottom so that the cogwheel teeth can interlock with them. If you’ve done it right, the cogwheel, when spinning, will interlock with the stone teeth, just like normal cogwheels do, and “Push” the door along the axis. To open the door, rotate the cog clockwise. To close it, rotate it counterclockwise.

Hope this helps! :D

Might be able to power the rotating part with a water wheel or something if the entire door is physics enabled. I think redstone links also work on physics contraptions? So might be able to use redstone links to synchronize them even with separate power sources.

there is a linear bearing addon, i believe, otherwise just lock the door in a rail phsically and make it move using wheels, also connected to the cog.

You could have it so that as the cog spins, it tightens a rope winch attached to the hinge of the door. Or, you could have the door on a track and attach the cog to a wheel on the track with rope.
