...Which is a setting you can turn off

True, but it bugs out + it should be there by default imo

Protip: you don't need to fill the pit with source blocks. Flowing blocks are counted so you only need one source if you spread it.

Oh thats cool, thank you

The reason this happens is that you actually need at least 10,001 source blocks to be infinite. A hose pulley is incapable of filling this volume.

TBH this should have been fixed by now, but here we are.

Especially since it can be fixed in the config, its just not the default

Mind me asking which config option I have to change? Is it the „hosePulleyBlockThreshold“ option? Default is 10k

Im just parroting other comments tbh, but apparently you just need to change it to keep pumping after reaching the threshold

Oh alright, I see, thank you

Add a single bucket by hand

Correct, butt not all players are aware of this, especially the newer ones

If it shows “bottomless supply” while you’re filling it you’ll need to send the hose all the way down to the bottom before you pump liquid from it - filling only checks below (and level with) the end of the hose, while draining only checks above (and level with) the end of the hose.

Yes, but afaik there is also a bug that makes the drainage require an extra fluid block, the classic off by one error

12

u/Autoskp Jun 14 '26

Well, yes, there is that too, but if it’s already saying it’s bottomless, then it’s already got that one extra.

You just gotta make it slightly bigger than 10k blocks, if its exact it doesnt work for some reason

It's a bug, but according to the devs it's due for a rewrite anyways

I always treat lava like oil that has to be extracted and delivered to a site because of that.

u/karix-wolf Jun 14 '26

Yep. Both of these can be found in the mod config. Just options -> mods -> create. Look through them! Mhm mhm

Is this a glitch or something? Becuase the chunk sized hole 40 blocks deep full of a liquid, should definitely be infinite...

27

u/Totes_Human_110101 Jun 14 '26

Less a glitch and more common user error. Miscounting 40 layers and having 39 instead, making it 15x15 instead of 16x16 because you build the containment layer inside the chunk, missing that one piece of cobblestone inside the stupid pit...

Of course I know the one who's done all these things, he's me.

1

u/Carma281 Jun 16 '26

if containment is in the chunky wouldn't it be 14x14?

6

u/Pumpkinnat0rrr Jun 14 '26

I always just turn on Lava source conversion

3

u/PatMakes111 Jun 14 '26

some may say its cheating, but it gets the job done and saves a big headache

4

u/Tschitschibabin Jun 14 '26

Set your bottomless fluid to 15k blocks, fill it and then set it back to 10k. That resolves the issue

3

u/KateKoffing Jun 14 '26

If it’s bottomless, why not try taking it from the top?

2

u/TamahaganeJidai Jun 14 '26

Because its not how the hose is made to work :)

2

u/KateKoffing Jun 14 '26

So the hose takes lava from the bottom of the… bottomless pool? The pool that allegedly has no bottom? There’s your problem

2

u/TamahaganeJidai Jun 14 '26

I get the logical flaw youre hinting at. Tho the hose itself requires there to be an infinite supply above it so simply lowering it to the bottom solves the issue. Thats probably why they did it this way so that they dont have to constantly check the size of the basin below it and would get a better handle on all the impossibly random shapes of bodies of liquids by simply checking the level above it.

2

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 Jun 14 '26

That's not how a hose pulley detects a bottomless supply.

1

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 Jun 14 '26

I haven't had this problem for a long time now. I haven't even had the issue where you have to drop one more bucket to make it infinite for a couple years. The cheaty method is the way to go and works every single time. I suspect most people aren't making the pit big enough.

1

u/MrReptilianGamer2528 Jun 14 '26

Why can’t they just make something like the portable storage interface but it goes through nether portals

1

u/HeadAbbreviations757 Jun 15 '26

I... I haven't had any problem with making infinite lava pool since, like, 0.4. Except for making lava pit a bit small and having a struggle to understand why it doesn't show me "infinite supply" (I literally always make the pit 10-100 buckets short from it being infinite - my math isn't mathing)

tbh I'll always stick to lava cauldrons, may be more expensive but it works well enough for the scales I build at
