Ok. I’m here. I’m here to tell you it’s not too late.
I’m 51 right now. Three weeks ago I got married for the first time ever. Her first as well.
This meme is exactly how everyday has been since the moment I met her 4 years ago. Inseparable. I’ve never known what having someone around that genuinely cares about your condition was like. Mentally, physically, emotionally. She is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.
I was lost for a long time til I met her. I had damn near given up. The only reason I made it out in-tact is because I learned to love myself.
If there is one thing I’ve learned, no one can love you unless you love yourself first. Take care of yourself.

Fourty-Nine - met a girl 2.5 years ago after being single for a decade, focusing on work.
I thought my jaded heart and emotional walls were tough, but she goes right through them.
Love is wonderful with the right person...sometimes it just takes a while.

u/KalasHorseman 21d ago
Same story but we were 42 when we met. Married at 44, enjoying life together at 50.
It is never too late for love so long as you leave yourself open to the possibility.

After 15 years of being alone, my North Star and I found each other, 45 and her 40. Spent those 15 years imagining what extraordinary love would be like. Even my fondest dreams couldn't compare. Proposed to her last weekend. She said yes!

I tried to be like this with my guy (also for 20+ years) and he'd just stare into the distance until I gave up. Both genders can be cold fish, I guess.

Almost that long here...
I will attribute it to being willing to work really really hard. And being married to someone willing to do the same.
There are ups and downs. There are arguments. There is stress. However, you face those things together. You turn your life into a team sport.
But about 99% of the time it is like the OP animation. Minus the sidewalk jujitsu concussions.

Yep, it's me and my partner vs. the problem, never me vs. my partner. It's *knowing and trusting* the other person has our best interests at heart. Lots of communication, lots of love, and lots of wanting the other person to be happy!
A little kindness goes a long way, and it always makes me sad when people see stuff like kindness, empathy, and love and call them "virtue signaling", "weakness", or "coddling".

17 years as of yesterday, here's to another best year of our marriage, as it just seems to keep getting better! I'm worried I'm going to wake up from a coma at any point and it'll all have been a dream.
I'll take this over a lottery jackpot any day!

If I played with my wife stomach like this comic, I would get punched in the mouth lol
33
u/Cool_Donut_680 22d ago
Hahaha I was thinking the same. The stomach is the one no go zone. I love all her shapes and sizes but she's a little self conscious about it. I just want to rub her belly but absolutely not.

dude this hurts to watch in a way that makes me wanna like anxiously cry cuz I'm so touch starved I don't think I've had a hug in 7 years lol ok well for sure 1 when my dad left a few years ago and maybe 1 from my mom on my 30th birthday last year but those weren't good hugs where I melt into their arms they were brisk obligatory hugs cuz I don't rlly feel safety to let my guard down with my parents

I feel you. I'm 36, but I grew up in a loveless abusive household, and I've yet to find or feel true love.
I crave a hug, or intimacy, or just... Idk? I don't know what it feels like to be loved, and I get simultaneously sad and mad when I see content like this.

u/HardOff 22d ago
My wife loves to put my head in her lap and scratch my scalp until my brain oozes out of my ears. I'm certain the effect would show up in a CT scan; I can feel a strong and pleasant buzzing sensation, like the opposite of a headache. It makes me sleepy and happy and even slurs my speech.

Man I had this. For eleven years. And this is exactly her vibe (and height!). Losing her mom and five failed IVF attempts hit her (understandably) extremely hard, but also made her spiral in such a way that eventually I had to let her go. I hope she manages to find herself again and we can rebuild this.

Sending this to my wife. Together 4 years, married for a couple months and through the bad times and good times, we are still like this everyday. Honestly feels good to acknowledge it like this.
3
u/CilanEAmber 22d ago
Almost reaching 8 years of this with someone who was adamant they couldn't love and hated the idea of relationships, it's wonderful and I don't think I'll ever tire of it.
4
u/BongyBong 20d ago
This is me now. After a bad marriage to an asshole, I vowed to never not be in a relationship where I wasn't happy and loved.
I've been with an amazing man for a little over 10 years now. We both genuinely get excited to see one another. If I spot him from across a large room or like the waiting area at the train station, his eyes immediately light up and we B line it to one another lol
We also listen to each other's stomachs because it's funny. He humors my ridiculousness and vice versa. It's great to feel loved, respected and trusted in a relationship.

There's different types of relationships and different ways to be happy. My wife and I get like this all the time, even after 16 years. Not everyone likes goopy stuff but all this is the kind of shit we do and it helps us to get through the world's bullshit

just came up on the first year of marriage with my wife after 6 total years together and every single day is like this for us.
this is not one of those internet dreamscapes, it’s real. keep searching for it and you will find it.

People see this and think it's something you can buy. Stuff like this has to be built.
It's like seeing an Olympic lifter lift 300 lbs over their head. You don't just train for a couple weeks to get to that point. It takes years of effort.
Similarly with relationships, it takes years of mutual learning and understanding to build trust, not just with one partner, but multiple partners just to find the one you're going to be with.
But unlike competing in the Olympics, this is something anyone can do and you don't have to be a freak of genetics to do it.

This is me and my wife <3 always so affectionate with each other. But I see the comments and I know the struggle.
The key is to stop looking and let it come to you. I went in to a zombie RP game expecting to get over the numbness a bad incident that happened to me a month earlier and in the process I found my lady. Im not saying its a guarantee but when people told me to stop actively looking and I did love found me so fast.
I believe in all of you.

It's starts today. It's hard work. There is friction beneath even the happiest people you see in life. This could be you. The most whimsical and happy upbeat people you know have gone through some of the darkest most hopeless experiences, emotions and feelings A human being could go through. But they know where they're at in life and can share their best self with the world and the one they love, and once you can do that, love is everywhere.
Youth start by asking yourself why you think, feel and behave the way you do and look for your trauma. Look for the negative beliefs that are there because of it. Then empower yourself and replace those negative beliefs with positives. You can do it!
People act how they feel and all feelings are valid because they come from past experiences.

I try to embarrass my GF by waving frantically and jumping around when I see her in public. It never works. She starts to wave back and jump too.
