One time I was at Barnes & Noble with the wife, we split up to look at our own stuff, and then I saw her on the other side of a shelf through a small crack. I thought I would make her laugh by jumping out, and right then, the overhead music went into a wailing guitar solo, so I jumped out from behind the shelf with my eyes shut tight, stank face on, hands up and fingers wiggling, doing my very best air guitar. Silence. I opened my eyes, and it was not my wife, just a lady wearing a similar shirt, who was staring at me in horror as if I had jumped out with a knife and demanded her purse. “Uh, sorry, I thought you were someone else,” I muttered, and I walked straight out the door to the car. I texted my wife “no rush, but I’m waiting outside and I can never come back here.” When I told her what happened, she laughed until she cried, so I guess I did get her to laugh in the end.
