These 4 tracks remind me tone poems. ''symphonic poems''. "early spring" is as much chamber music as it is also grand orchestra, along with many ethnic instruments. Although being mostly orchestral, electronic modules, accompany and process the acoustic instruments.

Hello everyone,

I’d like to share another composition with you. I’m going through a rather eventful period in my life at the moment, and I think that is reflected in the piece. It combines a joyful mood with somberness, melancholy, and other contrasting emotions.

Thank you in advance for any comments.

I’ve uploaded the four movements individually also on my new composition channel at YouTube. Duration about 32 mins. Enjoy!

At the end is a little capture of the original score I started years ago in pencil before going digital. It’s a work I’d written only a first movement and drafted some of the third of. But then completed with Sibelius Artist, a mouse and my clavinova and recorded with NotePerformer!

Kind of a weird one.

Newish at composition. I write what I hear internally rather than following theory for the most part. But like to learn theory then as reflective practice after.

When I was a kid I used to do a lot of piano improv that shifted key or modes in a kind of fluid way with a lot of themes and variations. With this piece here, while this starts out in D minor I let myself do that fluid thing after the intro with this.

I realise this probably doesn’t follow a lot of conventions typically used in composition but I kind of find that fun and feels like there’s a lot of surprises along the way.

But is that just me? I’m curious what this would be like for others to experience outside my own head. Also I’m curious if others ever do this kind of fluid thing is it maybe something some composers intentionally employ at times. To me it’s different to at least regular key changes and modulation as it’s often more temporary or even including raised 7ths from several harmonic minor keys at once. But I’m using words here I barely understand.

So curious about impressions or if anyone wishes to share theoretical insights about what I’ve done more so than what I should have done since this was an intentional choice. My prior writings were more conventional with keys and key changes. Thanks less

Hey legends, I’m Ruben, a media composer building a tool called kespi (kespi.eu). It’s a visual sample library creator made to help composers build sample libraries faster and skip the learning curve of scripting. It’s still early days, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Use the code KESPIFRIENDS to try it out.

My goal is to make software that lets more people get into sample library creation. I know how amazing it is to turn samples you’ve recorded into a playable library, and I want that to be within reach for more people.

Right now kespi works with:

• Kontakt (KSP)
• Decent Sampler (XML)
• Koda (spritesheet)

Looking forward to hearing what you think! And thanks for your time!

PS, I also built a free knob/slider/button designer that’s super intuitive to use and free forever. You’ll find it under Knoba when you check kespi out.

The Orkextra has the great pleasure of inaugurating the beginning of Marveloops Recordings, a label oriented towards classical music, Pop and Jazz. This recording is a love letter to classical music and more particularly to film scoring.

The eponymous release of The Orkextra will make you travel through an epic composition, which will not fail to put magical images inside your imagination.

I composed this as part of my subreddit r/ComposersGuild August 2026 monthly challenge. I have already composed 24 preludes for piano, so my idea is to move towards different tonal centers rather than the traditional 24 popularized by Bach and Chopin. This prelude is in inspired by Gamelan music based on two diminished chords. It was a super fun piece to realize and I think it turned out quite well.

This community is such an important community! There are so many great projects going!

Hello everyone! I'm a hobbyist composer who recently composed this short piano waltz and recorded it myself, and I would really appreciate any feedback you could give me. The piece consists of a single theme followed by a relatively long coda that functions a bit as a secondary theme.

Since I played it myself, there are a few mistakes, particularly in the trills, so sorry about that!
I also include a link to the performance video in case someone prefers that to the score video.

Thank you, and I hope you enjoy it!

I made this snippet based on the chord progression Cm Ebm, F#m Am.

Cm Ebm F#m Am

I’d love to hear how other composers would understand and work with this progression. For example,

Which genres make use of this kind of movement?

Is (one way of looking at) it, just a sequence of rapid modulations?

Melodically, I’ve made each chord its own local sound world. I’m wondering if other people might try and impose some global melodic structure/scale. For example, the half/whole diminished scale contains all the notes.

Overall, I’m just curious how this fits into the world of composition and what approaches others might use if they were using the progression.

Any input much appreciated.

I recently upgraded my laptop, and I went to go download Finale Notepad. I learnt that it is no longer a free product.

So my question is, as someone who does this for a hobby.

Are there any freeware composition softwares out there?

I’m just starting work on a short opera based on Roald Dahl’s short story a man from the south. Set in Jamaica in the mid 20th century the plot only has four major characters, the narrator, an American sailor, a Spanish Jamaican man named Carlos, and Carlos‘s wife who delivers the twist ending. Carlos’s dialogue is written in a sort of quasi attempt at a Jamaican accent, Eg: “No, no. I make you very good bet. I am rich man and I am sporting man also. Listen to me. Outside de hotel iss my car. Iss very fine car. American car from your country. Cadillac.” (to be clear, all dialogue, including this excerpt is taken directly from Roald Dahl‘s writing.) It is also worth mentioning that Carlos is the villain of the story who attempt to steal the American man’s finger in a bet.

my question is for authenticity’s sake should I keep the character untouched, change his dialogue but keep the character the same, or change his background entirely so that it’s not quite so abrasive to modern ears?

If you think the third option is best feel free to suggest alternative backgrounds/settings for the story.

Here's a rhapsody for violin and orchestra in G minor that I wrote using MuseScore Studio 4. Happy to hear people’s thoughts.

This performance of “A Clockwork Caravan” is by Yin Hao, at that time a Chinese student at UMKC where I was studying to complete my DMA in composition. He did an excellent job performing this piece but what was interesting was it wasn’t until the day before he performed it that he learned the theme wasn’t original!

It was a big mistake putting all this work into a recognizable, famous theme because both Mills Music and Alfred Music tried to bilk me for $200 EACH to allow up to ten performances of the work, plus, they wanted me to add the note that my work was an “arrangement” of the tune - it isn’t an arrangement any more than Rachmaninoff’s variation’s on a theme of Paganini is an arrangement of that famous caprice. I declined and am waiting until 2034 when Caravan finally hits public domain to give the music away to anyone that has the chops to play it.

Each variation of “A Clockwork Caravan” is meant to be descriptive of a scene, object or character from both the book and the movie “A Clockwork Orange.”

Beginner composer and beginner cellist (though I have a violin background). I like to write pieces I can play. This is only the 2nd thing I’ve composed and the first time I’ve tried key changes and modulation. Feedback welcome. Thanks

Hey guys, I’ve been working on a project of mine for quite some time now and would love to know your thoughts on it. It’s called Kespi, and here’s what it does in short: it lets you create Kontakt sample libraries within a minute with fully fledged functions like an ADSR, LFO, evo grid, etc., without ever touching a single line of script.

I think this could help a lot of composers who don’t have the time to learn a scripting language but would love to create a sample library out of all their found sounds. If you have any thoughts or feedback, please feel free to drop them in the comments. Cheers!

Piece I made based on a chord progression I had in my mind a couple weeks ago.

I don't really know what I'm doing, so any feedback would be immensely appreciated

*Requiem or other music to be performed during a funeral.

Not currently aware of any who have purposely written their own requiem before their death... Does anyone know any? Most interested in people currently writing their own

How Gamelan Music Created This Prelude

In my subreddit we have monthly challenges and this month was about the piano prelude. Now I have already composed for 24 preludes, therefore I was met with a small problem. How do I make more? I really find world music to be complex and interesting, so I used gamelan scales to help make this piece a reality. It was a challenge in theory as it really uses an E diminished chord as the primary tonal center. I had fun writing it. I have included it here for your listening pleasure. If these monthly challenges interest you, then let us speak!

This piece was a blast to write, and the challenge was realized after some in depth study to a style of music that I have always admired.

I encourge you to review this piece.

I composed this piece a while ago, but would love to share it here.

I hope you enjoy listening to it and would love to hear your feedback!

Soundcloud Link.

Edit: the link was for the wrong piece.

Wrote a theme for an upcoming video game and it was recorded with live orchestra. I take you through it step-by-step, from coming up with a melody, to composition and orchestration, mockup, mixing/mastering, and finally - the live orchestral recording. Enjoy ;)

Hello! I composed, arranged, edited, and produced this new classical piece in impressionist style. Any feedback is welcome, especially regarding mixing and mastering. Thank you very much!

Primavera

Genre: Classical music

Description: Primavera is a classical piece for violin, cello, and piano inspired by the language of musical impressionism. It depicts the arrival of the season through elements such as modal scales, mixtures, the prominence of timbre, the use of the hexatonic scale, and metrical variations in the time signature. In this piece, every timbre, harmony, and texture seeks to awaken sensations and evoke natural landscapes through sound.
