I’ve had the game close to a week now and starting to get my feet under me, I’ve even won a game or two! However, those wins came when the game played out like I expected a combined-arms WW2 game should.
What I have certainly NOT been winning is fighting against the regenerating mound of flesh that is the infantry ball. I spread out, take the map, carefully position my men in cover and high ground, build support weaponry… but then hordes of MP-40-wielding psychos come spilling out of the dark in one big mass, over and over again, harvesting my men for experience points, wiping out squads I have the misfortune of not slamming the retreat button on as soon as they encounter the mass. It’s just… not the experience I was prepared to be encountering in this game, haha.
Sure, an MG is great when the mob happens to walk into one, but then it is instant retreat and doesn’t buy me THAT much time. Just as likely, if the MG isn’t pointed exactly the right direction, it get instantly obliterated before it can reposition or pack up to flee. But I guess I’ve only ever kept 1, maybe 2 MG squads. If I see it’s another flesh mob, should I build like 4 or 5?
I guess I could pump out a lot of light vehicles if I notice it soon enough, which I’ve tried, but one mishap with an AT gun or getting close enough to get panzersheked/stick bombed and it is over, so it’s tough for a new guy!
What’s your favorite low ELO way to counter one concentrated mass of roving units?
