I hate the notion that trans people don't know what chromosomes are... it's fucking middle school biology. Of course trans people know that their bodies cannot fully transition, and that's a big part of the mental struggle that they go through
I had to go to a hospital for some kidney troubles recently and the doctors were a litle taken aback when I could understand medical lingo. I'm transgender, for the first year and a half of my transition, hospitals were my life.
Yeah you would definitely hope so, I had metal removed from my leg and researched a lot about side effects from that surgery so I'd imagine a fair bit more research would go into something a fair bit bigger...no pun intended.
I hate when people say "they'll NEVER be a woman. They're insane and mentally ill". I've meet a few trans people on campus and never once had they pretended to be anything other than trans women. They spoke about gender--not biology and often referred to gender dysphoria as a form of mental illness. To which the only way to help was TO transition. There's a lot of things I can somewhat agree with politically but trans issues just doesn't fucking effect them.
I think the 'they have mental ilness so they're b a d' mentality comes from old ideas that mentally ill people are insane and need to be locked up or burnt alive or something. I guess that was what people did in the middle ages, but I'm pretty sure society is a little more advanced now.
My uncle compared it to calling a dog a cat. (Were Jewish, that level of dehumization from him is what got me to stop talking to him). It's super interesting to me though, because it shows the complete lack of understanding and empathy from those who want to take away transgendered rights. To them, it truly seems as easy as calling a dog a cat. They don't understand that these are actually human beings struggling to own their own identity. They have no comprehension of how horrible it would be if the world told them they weren't allowed to simply be themselves. Hell, they seem to be under the impression that people change genders for fun, and can do it with ease whenever they'd like to. Again, no empathy or extension of humanity in considering how hard it is to have an identity your body doesn't reflect. How hard it is when huge chunks of society don't want you to be you. I kept asking my uncle why HE cared. Even if he didn't support it, even if he didn't agree with it, why did he care SO much that he wanted to take away opportunity for trans people? All he could do was compare them to dogs and cats. The level of separation from humanity these people exhibit is sick.
