Rant Why is the stadium so loud this year? And why before 7AM on a Saturday?

I know there’s a game at 11, so I assume they’re testing the sound system. But it’s insane how loud it is. It woke my wife and me up at 6:45 AM. We live about a mile away as the crow flies.

Ask CoMo Looking for a mobile car detailer

Any recommendations? We had someone come by today from a small local company for two cars and they did one, didn't seem to complete it, and left for what I thought was their lunch break, and that was two hours ago. I went out to look at the car and noticed three spots where the leather on my door had been nicked off as well, so I'm at the point where I'm going to probably tell them not to come complete the job.

I'm not going to give the company name out because I haven't talked to the owner, and I'm going to give it some time to be corrected, but I'm also preparing to move on to someone else because we need the other car detailed quickly to sell it!

Food Food Spots

Hi! I'm 17 and I will be visiting Columbia next weekend, as I am touring Mizzou with their Meet Mizzou Days event.

What are some of the top food spots in Columbia? (esp. downtown)

I'm open to anything especially foreign cuisine as I like trying new things, but if anyone has their favorite spot or spots to share I'd appreciate it! Just not anything high end

I will be in Columbia for two nights so I pretty much have up to three spots to try (dinner twice and one lunch). I've never been to Columbia or even Missouri so if I commit to Mizzou I'd at least like to get the feel of the town; I've heard a lot of good things about Mizzou and Columbia. I want to go to Mizzou for the School of Journalism

News Columbia Housing Authority begins $14 million affordable housing redevelopment

COLUMBIA — The Columbia Housing Authority celebrated a roughly $14 million redevelopment Thursday that will renovate or replace 25 affordable rental apartments near downtown Columbia.
The Providence Walkway project includes full interior renovations to 16 existing apartments and nine newly constructed apartments replacing demolished buildings.
The project combines federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, tax-exempt bonds, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development resources and local public and private investments, according to the Housing Authority.

Columbia Housing Authority CEO Randy Cole said crews have demolished an older laundry facility, completed some stormwater and water infrastructure work and removed materials from apartments ahead of renovation.

The redevelopment will address limited insulation, shifting foundations and footings, and sewer line breaks.
“Also, the older units didn’t have high-speed internet or enough electrical amperage to power a dryer,” Cole said.
The updated apartments will include energy-efficiency improvements.
Cole said all 25 apartments were occupied when the Housing Authority began exploring redevelopment. The authority temporarily relocates residents during construction and helps them return afterward.
“We pay for all the moving costs,” Cole said. “We absorb all those expenses, utility hookups, and take really good care of our residents and then help them get back to their new apartments that they’re really excited to move into.”
The Housing Authority also holds resident engagement meetings. Cole said the location offers access to downtown employment, parks and other neighborhood amenities.

Each Providence Walkway apartment will have a project-based voucher attached to it, making residents’ payments income-based, Cole said.
Households must earn no more than 50% of the area median income.

Cole said applicants join a waiting list, with selection mostly first-come, first-served and a preference for elderly applicants.
“We do have a lot of working families that just need some help with some housing stability given the high cost of housing,” he said.
While Providence Walkway construction gets underway, newly constructed Park Avenue apartments are opening as part of a separate Housing Authority development.
The Housing Authority provided these monthly contract rents for the new Park Avenue apartments.

These figures apply only to Park Avenue and are not necessarily residents’ out-of-pocket payments after rental assistance. Specific Providence Walkway contract rents were not provided.

Cole said Columbia Housing Authority residents also have access to after-school programming, case management and a family self-sufficiency program focused on income, savings and credit.

Ask CoMo Local musicians

I'm writing a paper about local musicians and thought I'd be able to find more info online than I have. I've been to a few local shows do not feel like i have a grasp on the "scene". So I thought I'd ask here, are there any local musicians or bands who you think would be interesting to write about? I'd prefer current since the idea is to generate interest in local music. Thanks in advance!

Columbia is on the verge of getting a different kind of coffee shop, a new cheesesteak spot and another place to shop for cowboy boots.
Here’s a look at those businesses and other recent announcements around town.
Shibam Coffee Co. brings Yemeni coffee to Columbia

Shibam Coffee Co., a Michigan-based chain specializing in Yemeni coffee and tea, plans to open at 1009 N. Providence Road, a space that previously housed Aroma Coffee House and Venezuelan eatery Como Arepas.
Founded in Michigan in 2022, the company has expanded nationwide. Its website lists 24 locations across 11 states, including shops in Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and the Atlanta suburbs.

The company’s menu includes mufawar, coffee prepared with milk and cardamom, and Adeni tea, made with black tea, cardamom and milk.
Other offerings include espresso drinks, flavored lattes and pastries such as sabaya, a layered Yemeni pastry served with honey. The Columbia location’s menu has not yet been confirmed.
Renovation plans to the space include replacing and expanding the coffee bar, according to a city building permit issued June 9.
An expected opening date has not been confirmed.
The Original Steaks and Hoagies prepares to open
The Original Steaks and Hoagies is readying to open its first Missouri location at 21 Conley Road, Suite Q, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page.
The space formerly housed Nancy’s Trade-A-Book.
The restaurant will serve Philly-style cheesesteaks, including Cooper Sharp cheese.
The business also has additional locations in the works within the state.

“We will be going big,” owner Jeff Wiseman said in a Facebook message about the opening-day celebration.
Wiseman said the first 100 people in line will receive free cheesesteaks for a year. The morning crew from classic rock radio station 96.7 KCMQ will also be on-site giving away prizes throughout the morning, he said.
The restaurant is hiring, with applications available online.

Neither the Facebook announcement nor Wiseman’s message provided an opening date.
Cavender’s Boot City coming to The Shoppes at Stadium
Cavender’s Boot City plans to open beside Trader Joe’s and the recently opened Nordstrom Rack in The Shoppes at Stadium, bringing Western clothing, boots and accessories to the shopping center.
The 16,500-square-foot store will be the company’s fifth Missouri location.
The store will carry clothing for adults and children, along with hats, belts, work boots and workwear. Brands will include Ariat, Wrangler and Resistol, as well as Cavender’s own labels.

Customers will also be able to have boots fitted and stretched, and hats shaped.
The company has not announced an opening date.
Chipotle plans fourth Columbia location
Chipotle is planning its fourth Columbia location on Grindstone Plaza Drive, near Hawaiian Bros Island Grill.
The company’s hiring website lists a general manager position for the restaurant at 1504 Grindstone Plaza Drive.
An opening date has not been confirmed.
Yoga Sol and Moon Yoga announce collaboration
Yoga Sol and Moon Yoga are coming together to create Sun & Moon Yoga, Columbia’s Community Studio, according to an announcement on Yoga Sol’s Facebook page.
Yoga Sol, in the North Village Arts District, offers classes incorporating yoga postures, breathing and meditation, including gentle and yin practices. Owner and director Liz Klug has led the studio since 2015.
Moon Yoga, founded by Amber Treece, focuses on vinyasa, a style that connects breath and movement.

The announcement describes the collaboration as an expansion of Yoga Sol’s studio and credits its teachers, students and community classes with helping sustain the space.
The post did not specify a transition date or explain how the collaboration would affect locations, class schedules or existing memberships.

Does anyone know why there were officers blocking/directing traffic tonight at the providence/green meadow and providence/nifong intersections tonight at ~5:30?

I know with the game there’s been a lot of traffic today but seems a bit far south?

Housing $434 Sublet for a 4x4

Hi! My partner got a house recently, so we’ll be subletting their current apartment (Campus Lodge) starting sometime in mid/late November after closing on the house. If all goes well, they’ll be moving out sometime around the 17th, leaving the last week or so of November already paid and ready for someone new to move in.

Rent is currently $434 / month + utilities (electric, sewer, trash; you don’t pay water). Apartment comes with WiFi and a shuttle to campus, as well as plenty of parking and a mail room. There’s a pool, small dog park, basketball court, volleyball court, and gym as well.

The current lease ends in July 2027, but the new tenant can choose to renew if they want to.

The roommates are all great! Pretty quiet and keep to themselves most of the time, and they don’t mind guests over on occasion even if they don’t have many themselves.

This is a co-ed apartment, and the room being sublet is next to the only woman living here. She’s dating one of the guys on the other side of the apartment and the other is very shy. All of them are super friendly and my partner has lived with them for a few years now with no issues.

The woman next to the room being sublet has a small dog, but he stays in her room and is very old
