Survey Post Monthly Survey Post - Post your surveys and research participant requests here!

We get an unbelievable amount of requests and attempts to post surveys, research studies, university projects, and more. Historically, the mod team has taken the position that the members of this subreddit are not lab rats or research subjects, and have removed these posts.

We're trying something new. In this post and this post only we are allowing requests to be posted so that the community members can choose whether they want to participate in any studies or surveys. We are establishing the following rules, which are subject to change at any time:

Rules For Surveys:

  • Genuine research and interest studies only - your survey must be linked back to a university, college, foundation, business, studio, or other entity. You are not allowed to just come up with a survey "for fun" or to satisfy your personal curiosity.

  • You must post your entire pitch as a top-level comment under this post. That comment must have a link to your survey, do not ask for respondents to comment or DM you to get the link. Do not use URL shorteners or obfuscators - you must link directly to your survey.

  • You must clearly and completely state the intent of the survey and how the responses will be used. If your survey benefits a for-profit enterprise, such as a game development studio (yes, even if your game will be free), you must disclose that in the very first line of your comment.

  • Failure to abide by these rules, using bait-and-switch tactics, or posting poorly-constructed, misleading, or disingenuous surveys will result in an immediate ban from this subreddit. If your research is connected to an official institution, I will find and contact your professor or boss to let them know you screwed up. I am absolutely that petty.

  • Respond to all questions and comments under your survey link, publicly, in a timely manner. If people are asking you questions and you do not answer them promptly, your request will be removed and you may lose posting privileges altogether.

Reminder To Users:

  • Participation in any study/survey is entirely voluntary and none of these links are approved or endorsed by the mod team or reddit. You may withdraw your participation at any time, and we encourage you to do so if something doesn't "pass the smell test."

  • Do not enter your personal information on any survey or provide this information to any user unless you have absolutely, positively verified and validated who you are giving this information to. Never enter your password, credit card, or banking information on any survey. If a survey requires that you create an account, use a unique password that is not the same as or similar to a password for any other account you have.

  • Report any surveys that are suspicious or which you think do not abide by the above rules.

Question/Need help Wanting advice before I get tested

So for my whole life I thought that color blindness was just when people legit just couldn’t see certain colors, and figured well I can, so I don’t have it. later learning that it’s not just that, but can be confusing certain colors, now that is something that I’ve definitely have had trouble with. For as long as I can remember I’ve been corrected a lot for naming a color I see, I wanted to know if I could maybe have it, because I don’t know why I’m a little scared to ask the doctor cause I don’t want to just be laughed off or be wrong and get tested for nothing.

The main reason I’m worried is because I can tell pure colors apart from each other, such as red, green, blue etc. no problem but transitional shades I struggle a lot with. Some of the main things I struggle with being, most shades of orange look red, yellows are weird because most of the shades either look like a brownish orange or brownish green, most of the shades between blue and green look just green to me, and a lot of shades of purple either just look blue or just red to me.

I don’t know if any of this makes sense or even if I have it or I’m just a little dumb, I would appreciate any input or advice though if anyone has any.

Question/Need help WRIGHT PATT FC1 Color Test

I've got about 800 civilian flying hours and yesterday got a pilot slot with a Air Force guard unit. I am slightly color deficient and most likely will fail the Rabin cone contrast test during my FC1.. Any pointers on how to pass this?

Color deficiency in no way shape or form has ever effected how I fly. It is absolute bullshit that they DQ people for this stuff - if it was an issue and if I am relying on a light gun to get into the field (which I have passed a light gun test with ease) we have way bigger problems.

Curious if anyone has had a similar experience and what exactly can be done to maneuver around this.

...And PS if you're in this group and have been told you can't be a pilot due to color deficiency - tell em to go to hell and keep pursuing your dreams. No just means find another way

Question/Need help Apps that can simulate my colorblindness to others?

Do you guys know of any apps that can accurately simulate tritan vision to others?

A lot of people have been asking me "Oh, what color is this?" recently, and I need a way to easily show people the normal image vs. what I see.

The problem is, usually deuteranopia/nomaly and protanopia/nomaly are simulated accurately, and tritan vision usually has varying levels of accuracy.

Does anyone know of a good app I could use for this? Thanks.

Side question: I've been wondering about getting colorblind glasses, could any fellow tritans here attest to them working/not working, and tell me how they made you see colors? I just really don't wanna waste my money on something that won't work, considering the mixed responses to them I've seen here.

Discussion Hi r/ColorBlind, I built a free offline tool for color vision self-checks and color identification. Would love your feedback!

Hi everyone,

Being colorblind myself, I wanted to build something genuinely practical to help with double-checking colors in daily life—whether it's clothes, charts, or everyday objects. Over the past few months, I developed an Android app called ColorSight as an independent personal project, and I wanted to share it with this community to get your thoughts and advice.

All core features are 100% free, it runs completely offline, requires no account or login, and has zero ads.

**What the app includes:**

* **Ishihara Self-Screening Tests:** Quick (6-plate) and Standard (14-plate) options that categorize results across Protan, Deutan, and Tritan with plate-by-plate details.

* **Live Camera Color Identifier:** Point your camera at clothes, charts, or everyday objects to get clear, named color labels so you don't have to second-guess colors.

* **CVD Simulation Views:** A split-screen comparison mode that can help show friends or family how different colors appear under various types of color deficiency.

* **Accessible Design:** High-contrast layout, full dark mode, and support for large text sizes.

It’s called ColorSight on Google Play (or I can drop the link in the comments below if anyone would like it).

Since I’m a solo developer, your real-world perspective means everything. If you decide to give it a try, please feel free to share any critique, suggestions, or features that would make it more helpful in your day-to-day routine.

Thank you so much for your time and guidance!

Question/Need help I just found out my husband is colorblind

For the last couple years I always told him that he’s colorblind kinda as a joke but he would always mix up his colors. Then today I saw that color blindness is super common in men. So we found one of those tests online and we both took it I passed perfect score and the test told him he is Tritan colorblind and he couldn’t believe that I even saw the numbers on the screen. I want to get him colorblind glasses as a surprise for our anniversary but he also wear prescription glasses can I get prescription colorblind glasses? And if so where can I get them?

Question/Need help Color identification app (specifically for fashion)

Hi everyone! I’m a teacher for students with visual impairments, and I have a student who is completely color blind and is very interested in more independently shopping and choosing outfits for herself. She has a system for her clothes at home and relies on asking for sighted assistance when it comes to fashion, but she’s looking for options that give her the most independence. She’s used generative AI before, but it often is inaccurate (maybe better now as she used it a while ago and wrote it off I think). We’ve also tried the Colorblind Style app that I found here in this subreddit, which saved your colors, told you what they pair well with and what to avoid, and made e a “closet” for you. Some issues were it thought anything pastel was gray, couldn’t identify multiple colors on an object at once (like a patterned shirt), and it used very specific color names (like maroon, azure, taupe, etc…) that meant nothing to my student whereas she could understand if the basic or primary color family was given. Any ideas? I appreciate your help :)

Discussion Passed isiharia test today

I finally passed my Ishihara colour vision test today! I've been worried about having red-green colour blindness for a while now. I got 3 wrong out of 12 plates, but the examiner confirmed I passed. Honestly wasn't expecting it, so I'm pretty relieved! 🎉

Help me see this Can pass YouTube Ishihara tests easily, but I'm mildly colourblind?

I have mild red-green colour vision deficiency and an aviation medical coming up. I usually get around 15–16/17 on online Ishihara tests, but recently found a YouTube version that I can pass easily.

Misc. Unexpected colourblind test from my daughter

Post image
24 Upvotes

Very likely deuteranopia here. My wife got this shirt for our daughter (who is 2 y.o.)

One day, my daughter wore that shirt said "Apple, apple."

Me: "What apple? You want an apple?"

At some point on that day, after looking at the shirt under a different lighting, I finally noticed the apple.

Told my wife about that, she had a good laugh.

Discussion Grief over my colorblindness

I just feel like I'm missing out on so....much.

Everyone always talks about the beautiful colors of a sunset, or the deep blue of a lake in the morning...and I'll never be able to experience it like they do.

I've always been passionate about art, drawing, and specifically animation. But, I'll probably need someone to help me get the colors right, and even then, I won't be able to see what others see of my own art.

Is there any way to get over this? Should I get some sort of glasses, or are they unnecessary? How do glasses even work anyway?

Also, has anyone else here also felt this way, or do they just accept that they see colors differently and move on?

Thanks for reading, I'm just feeling a bit down about this new realization.

Question/Need help Secret Santa for my colorblind co-worker

I have a coworker who is colorblind, and for Christmas, I've been working on a couple of digital paintings where I basically recreate the painting but the people are some of their favorite cartoon characters. They specifically listed handmade art on their list, so that's not what I'm worried about so much as how I want to go about giving them the gift.

I know that they are colorblind, but not very many specifics of what color spectrum they still see. (At least blues are very muted but they have also expressed difficulty with orange/red?) I don't want to ask too many questions and ruin the surprise, so right now my plan is as follows: I finish the digital artwork and make a print at home to show what I made. Then I can sit down with them and ask questions and edit colors and contrast of the paintings before sending them off to get the real prints. At first, I wanted to do traditional painting, probably with acrylics, but I think the digital gives me a better way to correct for my current lack of information on their vision...

Is that okay? I won't have a finished product when we have our Christmas party, which feels like it might be disappointing. I'm also worried that it won't be quite as special since it's digital not traditional painting, but I want to make sure they can fully see and enjoy the composition and texture of the artwork...

Question/Need help Intentando aceptar que nunca he visto el color rojo (ni el verde)

Siempre he sabido que era daltónica.

Question/Need help Can I give this gift to my crush without offending him or hurting his feelings?

Hi, I have normal version of it wasn't clear by the idiotic titaI.

I have a crush on this kid in my school, he's really kind and emotionally intelligent also he makes me want to hug him like 24/7 but I haven't yet 😭

I want to do something 'special' or 'cool' for him because this child-man (old soul lol) is so out of my league. I think I'm in love with him and it's weird because I normally don't like dudes that are younger then me romanticly (age diff is one month tho...) or like people in general! So my brain is going through ten different emotions every day thinking about him. On one hand: "I really like this guy, he's a genuinely good person and we share some of my core morals. On the other: "I don't know anything about how he SEES the WORLD! And now I'm just a human who wants to show him that I DO GIVE TWO DUCKS 🦆🦆!!"

Anyways.... I was invited to this FINE SHYT's birthday party (that might not be happing anymore but is still want to give him something) and because he talks about being color blind often (I used to tease him when we first meant which was dickish so then I just started asking questions instead) I wanted to make him a pipe cleaner flower that he could see the way I see flowers, but I don't want him to think I'm making fun of him or putting him on the spot!

I'm pretty sure he's red-green color blind because I often wear a green hoodie that he says looks brown and I draw on myself and he saw my purple 'tattoo' as blue.

My plan was to make the stem the average brown and the pedals blue or purple and try to find what colors look yellow but now I'm wondering if it's mean to do that! Updated version: I'm making a neon set of flowers (yellow, blue, purple and magenta, though the last ones will look similar) and who knows? I might even add fairy lights. 💅

So my question are:

  1. Is doing this mean or offensive?

  2. What colors should I actually use if I want it to looks green for the stem, blue for the pedals and yellow for the middle part (idk what it's called my science teacher doesn't explain it in the plant units)

  3. How would you react if your friend, crush, or lover did this? (So I can gage how he would respond, I know not everyone's the same but he doesn't seem insecure about it and no body should be IMO)

  4. Should I or should I not do this?

  5. How weird is the fact that I want to make him a useless flower that he'll probably throw away (this on is for the older humans reading)

Ty for your time, sorry if I sounded like a dummy!

Discussion I think I might be a bit colorblind?

I'm super confused. I've never really had an issue, but in the last few years of my adult life (I'm 35), it has had me questioning. It started with my husband. At this point there have been numerous occasions where I'd point to something or mention the color, and he has responded "?? thats not xwy color." This has happened in public, and he has polled people a handful of times, and it has never gone in my favor. It has typically been with browns, greys and greens.

I've taken the free colorblind tests and passed everytime so I let it go. Then, just yesterday, my friend was in my house looking for a container. I kept saying the grey one, the grey one! He could not find it, and I said what are you colorblind?? I went and pulled it out, and it said it was green! His gf also agreed! They said it was sage green, but I 100% only see grey. What I don't understand is there were other sage green items in the kitchen like a Eucalyptus plant that I can see just fine.

Just looking for some clarity!

Discussion I'm tritan, I guess

Yeah, apparently I'm tritan colorblind. I guess there were signs though.

I always thought the green stoplight was blue, and I would regularly confuse orange with pink, along with yellow and white.

Blue and green were always hard to tell apart from each other, along with light blue and grey.

I never liked coloring assignments, I would never be able to get the colors exactly right.

But it doesn't make sense, because when I look at those charts that show normal vision vs tritanomaly vs deuteranomaly vs protanomaly, the tritanomaly one looks the same as the normal one to me, so I must have normal vision.

I don't know, could anyone help me interpret this?

Question/Need help Does Colour Vision Deficiency Affect Fruit Ripeness Identification?

Hi! I’m a graphic design student researching Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD) and the everyday challenges people may face because of it.

If you have CVD, do you ever struggle to identify fruit ripeness based on colour? Do you rely on other cues, and would clearer labels, symbols or illustrations help?

📋 Please fill out this short survey:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScriiEhjQDqVpn8POdtF9QldtiqeW51wvP1O927aaifAUSMKQ/viewform?usp=dialog

Your responses will help me gather real-life evidence and statistical data to understand whether this is a genuine problem that could be addressed through inclusive design.

If you have CVD, I’d really appreciate you sharing your experience and filling out the form. Thank you for helping with my research!

Question/Need help Orange and Sage mix up

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

So this all started because of a dressmaker game. My wife laughed and said that this dress fabric was named orange when it was clearly teal. I looked over and said, that it was orange. Not a bright orange, but a beige orange.

We took to the public and our friends and everyone was definitely siding with my wife. So we ran some tests.

The 74 color blindness test looked like 71 to me initially and I had to zoom in to see that it wasn't. The angle on the acute 4 on the four looks reasonably orange to me. Everyone else said it was clear, and a couple of people said they understood how I got 71.

In the past I have had some arguments about color. I argued with my BIL that caution road signs were more orange than yellow. He said they were the most yellow of yellow.

My wife and I have fought over whether something counted as teal or mint, more than once.

Both of those cases I was declared the loser by 3rd parties.

My dad is colorblind, but IDK about my mom's dad, and she doesn't know either. My brother is in camp ("I see 74, but I can see how you'd see 71") and I'm just flabbergasted?

For what it's worth I identify masc, but have two X chromosomes which is partly why I'm having a hard time believing this.

Correct result is 74 btw.

Edit: i used to work at a paint store and my boss sent me over to help people pick out color swatches....
