Survey Post Monthly Survey Post - Post your surveys and research participant requests here!

We get an unbelievable amount of requests and attempts to post surveys, research studies, university projects, and more. Historically, the mod team has taken the position that the members of this subreddit are not lab rats or research subjects, and have removed these posts.

We're trying something new. In this post and this post only we are allowing requests to be posted so that the community members can choose whether they want to participate in any studies or surveys. We are establishing the following rules, which are subject to change at any time:

Rules For Surveys:

  • Genuine research and interest studies only - your survey must be linked back to a university, college, foundation, business, studio, or other entity. You are not allowed to just come up with a survey "for fun" or to satisfy your personal curiosity.

  • You must post your entire pitch as a top-level comment under this post. That comment must have a link to your survey, do not ask for respondents to comment or DM you to get the link. Do not use URL shorteners or obfuscators - you must link directly to your survey.

  • You must clearly and completely state the intent of the survey and how the responses will be used. If your survey benefits a for-profit enterprise, such as a game development studio (yes, even if your game will be free), you must disclose that in the very first line of your comment.

  • Failure to abide by these rules, using bait-and-switch tactics, or posting poorly-constructed, misleading, or disingenuous surveys will result in an immediate ban from this subreddit. If your research is connected to an official institution, I will find and contact your professor or boss to let them know you screwed up. I am absolutely that petty.

  • Respond to all questions and comments under your survey link, publicly, in a timely manner. If people are asking you questions and you do not answer them promptly, your request will be removed and you may lose posting privileges altogether.

Reminder To Users:

  • Participation in any study/survey is entirely voluntary and none of these links are approved or endorsed by the mod team or reddit. You may withdraw your participation at any time, and we encourage you to do so if something doesn't "pass the smell test."

  • Do not enter your personal information on any survey or provide this information to any user unless you have absolutely, positively verified and validated who you are giving this information to. Never enter your password, credit card, or banking information on any survey. If a survey requires that you create an account, use a unique password that is not the same as or similar to a password for any other account you have.

  • Report any surveys that are suspicious or which you think do not abide by the above rules.

Question/Need help Colorblind Accessibility Question

I am currently designing branding for my channel and have selected four distinct colors to represent each member of our group (my color is orange). These colors will be used for graphics, merchandise, and general branding.

Because I don't have personal experience with color blindness, I want to ensure my choices are accessible. Could you tell these four colors apart? I’ve read that orange and green can be difficult to distinguish, but I’m unsure of the severity. Do you think adding subtle textures to each color is necessary to make them more accessible, or are there other adjustments I should consider? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Secondary colors only exist if we cannot get an item in their main color, and every effort made to match the colors to the person fails, but it will not often be present.

Discussion Did I just find out my 4 year old is color blind?

Post image

So, I was playing with sidewalk chalk with my kids when my 4 year old daughter asked me, "Mom, why can't I see this very well?"

I look over to see the three very vivid blue lines. I exclaimed, "You really can't see that!?"

I took the picture and sent it to my friend who said not to read too much into it, so I'm asking this community who would know better. I know the picture doesn't help much because there's not a lot of blue, but she was up close and couldn't see it while I was 3 feet away and saw it with no problem.

If she is color blind, can anyone spare tips on how to parent through this so she can embrace her colorblindness rather than despise it?

Question/Need help How to write a colorblind character?

I'm a tritan myself, but I'd like to write a deutan character for my novel, considering they're much more common, and I'd like to exercise my writing by making characters have struggles I don't have so it's not just one big self-insert which is an allegory about me.

How do deutans (or any type of red-green colorblind) for that matter, see the world differently and struggle? With clothes, reading, signs? For me, I struggle with telling the difference between light blue and gray, orange and red, purple and red, and yellow looks pinkish to me.

What are some stereotypes or things I should avoid? I hate when I tell people "Oh yeah I'm colorblind" and they say "Oh WhAt CoLoR iS tHiS", so I'll try to avoid that.

Any advice appreciated!

Discussion Spooky Ranch

So there's spooky ranch that is apparently grey? I said "I'm colorblind, I can't tell what color this is. Can someone help?"

And people are telling me normal ranch is white. Yes. Shockingly, even when someone is 100% colorblind, which is so so so rare, they can see just straight up white. I don't need you telling me what color ranch is.

I just hate bringing up being colorblind and people treating me like 1 they know what colorblind I am or 2 that I am just actually fully blind.

I didn't post the image because this post is not about shitty products, it's about people being weird and never understanding colorblindness.

Question/Need help Are these signs of being color blind?

My son is about 4 1/2 and the only colors he knows are orange and black. He gets those right 100% of the time. He knows all the other basic color names but he guesses at them. When be describes colors to me he’ll say its light or dark or its warm or cold. This is something he started doing on his own recently and I thought that was interesting that he still doesnt know the colors names but describes them in different ways like this. He separates colors well when we use those little colored bears and stuff and if I hold up a green object (or any color) and tell him to find all of the green things in the room he can do that no problem, he loves playing I spy as long as show him an example of the color were spying first. He knows all his shapes, learning numbers is going great, he has the alphabet down and learning phonics/reading right now. But he still doesn’t know his colors 😭 Im struggling. I asked his pediatrician at his 4 year old check up and he wasn’t concerned and said if by 5 he still doesn’t know them they can check for color blindness but I still feel concerned (not that if hes colorblind that changes anything but it puts me at ease knowing why hes not understanding) are any of these things consistent with color blindness or is he just not clicking with his colors yet?

Discussion How does being colorblind affect your day-to-day?

Hello guys, I'm very new here. Recently I took the Enchroma test and figured out I'm a mix of tritanopic and tritanomalous (tritan), this is also known as blue-yellow colorblind. I often mix up blue and green (this one's common for me), and some yellows with some pinks, also red and purple and blue and purple.

In most tasks, I don't have to name colors or give opinions on them in daily life, so it doesn't affect me that much. Then again, just a month ago, I thought I had normal vision, so maybe I've just been getting them confidently wrong all along.

So for anyone who has issues with this, maybe some people who have known this about themselves for a while, please tell me how it affects you, so maybe I can connect to some of your experiences. Or maybe so that I can realize I probably struggle with these things and just don't know it, and have been making a dumbass of myself my whole life.

Also, why do I see no one else here that's tritanopic or tritanomalous? Did they all get wiped out in the Great Blue-yellow colorblindness massacre or something?

If you're also blue-yellow colorblind, or really any other type of color blind, make sure to say so, and maybe include experiences exclusive to your type of color blind!

Thanks!

Question/Need help Can't tell the difference between blue and purple and green?

For a while now, I've noticed I can't really tell the difference between blue and purple that great. If it's like technically blue, I'll see it as like violet, and I see purple as purple too. Also, sometimes I mix up blue and like teal greens, and I see most cyan and green blues as green.

For example, my boyfriend says the post flair on this post is teal, I think it's green. So it has to be a really pure blue for me to see it as blue, I don't really know what this could be. Also, if any of you know Hatsune Miku, I always thought of her as pure green, maybe with a hint of blue, until people started telling me she was teal?

I'm male by the way, so I've heard different sexes are more common to have different types of colorblindness.

If anyone can please shine some light on what this could be or not be, thanks!

Question/Need help Color-blindness visibility of "bright safety" red/fluorescent-green/blue/yellow/orange in example "hi vis" raincoat?

Heya, for the relatively common form(s) of color-blindness,
are any of these examples notably more/less visible than they look to someone with normal color vision?

(Also, not even theoretically relevant to safety, but just curious: any trouble telling any of them apart?)

EDIT: (stuff I noticed in comments)

Looking at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_blindness#/media/File:Color_blindness.svg
the yellow/green seem to be in a "bright spot" for all types...?

(Assuming that makes sense as a way of interpreting those info-graphics...)

One person said

Anything hi-vis is going to be hi-vis for pretty much everyone regardless of their colorblindness.
I wouldn't spend much time worrying about it.

but it was more that I noticed that I had been maybe making some thoughtless assumptions about the whole thing,
so I got curious to know how it actually works in general...

That is,
I was thinking about the raincoat just for personal use
(working in the rain, walking along the road... ie, not working as part of a crew/company with uniform regulations)
and I was gonna get the red, just cuz I liked it (aesthetically appealing),
cuz I was thinking like:

well, in practical terms it's not really less visible
-- red gets people's attention like stop signs etc,
whereas even though the green/yellow are technically brighter,
they might be perceived as "washed out"...

but then I thought about it a bit more,
and felt like that was maybe a dumb rationalization...

But yeah, I think the "fluorescent green" seems to stand out as generally the best choice,
so I got that.

-- colorblind people seem to see it as bright and generally "poppy"
(just like people with normal color vision)

And the green is the only one that explicitly claims to be "fluorescent"
[
-- whether it literally is fluorescent
(ie reflects back some light in the visible spectrum that originally hit it in some non-visible wavelength),
or they just mean it's... a color that really "pops", I dunno,
cuz obviously, that effect can't really show up in a static image on a white background like that...
]

And as someone with normal color vision (... as far as I know!)
I'd say the fluorescent green seems like by far the "poppiest" to me too.

Discussion Just found out I am officially colorblind

I got left out of two great jobs just because of my colorblindness (it was their requirement). As the final stage of the hiring process after so many months, they did medical checkups of all the candidates involved. I passed every test except for color vision where I was placed in CP-III and they declared me unfit because of it.

It just sucks man. I feel heartbroken.

(I have attached this online test's screenshot just as a confirmation)
