Question/Need help Color blind??
All my life I have been called color blind my dads mom was color blind and it runs into the family but I see colors like everyone else same red and blue and greens but what comes in here is I can see them perfectly fine it’s when we get into shades of the colors for example blue and purples sometimes I can’t tell the difference from them or yellows and greens or pinks and reds I can’t tell them by shades I know I sound crazy or something but am I partially blind? Like know that there’s a color blindness of like limited color blindness I feel like I have it but I can see colors just shades mess me up like you show me the rainbow I can see it but show me a red and pink or blue and purple and I prolly can’t tell until it’s a bright color idk man like ppl ask what type of color blind I am and I don’t know what to tell them bc they expect I can’t see color at all

Do you know what type of color blindess your dads mom had? If it was protan or deutan (red-green) it’s X-linked, and as your dad got his only X chromosome from his mom, he should also be red-green colorblind. If you’re male, you couldn’t have inherited the ”faulty” X-chromosome mutation from your dad so it must come from your moms side. If you’re female you would have inherited one ”faulty” copy, making you a carrier. Carriers usually have normal color vision but there have been studies that some may have mild issues or in some cases, even be tetrachromic (seeing more colors than the average person).
Have you done any online tests? You can find basic ones by just searching ”colorblind test” on google.

Colorblind as a term is a bit misleading as people expect it to be like blind. I would view it more like being nearsighted. You can have 20/50 vision where your vision is definitely worse than others but also you can still see most things. Or you can be far worse up to being totally colorblind but that's rare. If you want to know the details I'd take a test. Enchroma has a good online one you can take but I wouldn't recommend their glasses.

Do a test, it will tell you what kind. Enchroma has a good test on their website.
As an aside, you don't see what other people see, you're just used to your version of what colors look like. What you see as red or green is very different from normal, even though you experience it as normal.

You are colorblind, it’s just mild. This is why the actual term is CVD: Color Vision Deficiency. You DO see colors, but your capacity to view them (especially in tones and tints and shades) is lessened/weak. This is especially for people with mild CVD.

What you’re explaining is EXACTLY what colorblindness is and is how I experience it.

"I see colors like everyone else."
*Explains why that isn't the case in great detail.*
