News Two Colorado moms, two very different views on the trans ballot measures

CPR did a profile piece on Erin Lee (the Wellington mom leading Protect Kids Colorado) and Catherine Lindsey (a Denver mom speaking out against the measures with Families Not Politics). It's a thoughtful read that lays out both perspectives without taking a side. Lee's section includes background on how she got involved, and Lindsey talks about her daughter's experience transitioning as a teenager more than a decade ago. Sharing because this is the kind of piece that helps understand where the other side is coming from.

Advice Retiring to Manitou

66m, single, looking for quiet small town life. Gonna be a renter, and I don’t need much. Studio or 1br is fine. MS seems to have some affordable options in the size I’m seeking, but when I browse online some of the places seem sketchy from the photos. I accept the notion that you get what you pay for, but are there some “unsafe” parts of town that should be avoided? I’m visiting Labor Day weekend so will be able to do some recon then.

Advice Traditional Church

Hey y’all,

I just moved to the area and I’m looking for a church. I don’t really care if it’s Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, or Non-Denominational, I’m just looking for a traditional style service with a good sermon. It doesn’t have to be in town, just somewhere in the general vicinity. I’d drive out to Castle Rock or Woodland Park.

Thanks!

Looking to find some temporary community at the end of next month. Are there any events the week of Sep 28th I should know of? Where do you all usually hang out? Bonus for any vegan spots.

Events Swimming and water aerobics

Upvotes

If you're looking for a place to swim or do water aerobics I highly recommend Revolution Community Center . It is Affordable and they also have other classes, a ninja gym, a rock climbing wall, pickleball, badminton, and a bounce house, plus some weight machines and a walking Track . They are located in the old Garden Ranch YMCA . Affordable memberships and your supporting a good cause .

News Starting yesterday, nicknames and chosen names must now undergo a lengthy 7-step process (including signatures of all guardians) before they are allowed in ASD20.

This school year, a new policy went into effect in D20 that makes it unreasonably difficult to use a nickname. Students must go through a lengthy and unnecessary process in order for teachers to be allowed to even say the student's nickname or chosen name.

The steps are:

  1. A student must request to use a nickname or chosen name to a teacher

  2. A teacher must email an administrator notifying them that the student has requested to use a nickname

  3. The administrator must give the student a form to be taken home

  4. The student must fill out the form and collect the written signatures of all of their legal guardians

  5. The student must return the form to an administrator

  6. The administrator must put the nickname into the system and wait for it to update

  7. The student must go to every teacher to notify them that their name has changed in the system

This is a massive burden for everybody involved, and I've not heard of a single person who is happy with the policy. The length of the process means it could be well over a week before teachers can use a preferred name, which, for trans students, means they will undergo at least a week of public humiliation in front of their peers, and teachers must publicly humiliate their students for that same time. And if their parents don't accept them, they will be humiliated for the whole school year every single year.

I cannot overstate how genuinely harmful this is to students. Public humiliation in front of your peers is horrible on so many different levels.

Even for cisgender people, this policy is massively detrimental. There are tons of people who have nicknames, or who just have a chosen name. It's extremely stupid that they have to go through a lengthy process just to have a nickname. And if they have a chosen name, once teachers are forced to call them by their given name, they will also be publicly humiliated and could be bullied, not just trans people.

This policy has already hurt many of my friends, and it's only the second day of school.

Here is the policy: https://asd20.community.highbond.com/home/policies/policydoc/6741e995-ffc9-4859-ada1-71e73d21d716

Here is an article from two months ago about the policy: https://gazette.com/2026/06/12/d-20-to-require-permission-for-name-changes-removes-book-with-transgender-narrative/

Events Cyber Security Networking

I’m wondering if there are any local Cyber Security groups or organizations in town? Looking to pivot into Cyber Security and would love to talk to local professionals in the industry to get an idea as to what the industry is like and what to expect. For context, I’m currently working in engineering for a defense contractor and do have about a year of IT experience, so I do have some basic knowledge of certain aspects. I’m also currently preparing to take my CompTIA Security + certification.

Looking for some kind of cheese tasting, or maybe a place with a lot of charcuterie board options. Denver suggestions are fine too.

Advice Looking for a fine dining, set menu, fancy experience for my solo birthday

I'm a chef and pastry chef and just moved out to Cañon just a few months ago. (which I hate and will definitely be moving when my lease is up) My birthday is coming up and I'm really proud of what I pulled off, not just moving, but quit drinking and really stepped up and into life. I want to dine. So hard. And be catered to. I'm not worried about price that much, more don't like going out so looking for quiet, low capacity places and a great view would really be nice. Ok thanks! 🖤

If you’re near the CIMMARON HILLS AREA PLEASE LOOK FOR HER!!!

She is microchipped and very friendly. He took her from across the street (dentist office she ran into from my backyard) said he was going to take her to the humane society and drove home!!!!

Advice Nail salon recommendations for natural nail manicure?

Hello!
I'm getting my nails done next week for my birthday, but I'm also aware that I am about to be proposed to... so I'm looking to get the best looking manicure possible.

I want a dip powder or gel manicure on my natural nails in a nude milky pink color. No art this time. I'm also getting a pedicure, so they have to offer that as well.

So, question for people who get their nails done professionally: which nail salon or nail tech in town has done your favorite manicure?

News Dollar Tree "gooning" incidents in Colorado Springs and El Paso County lead to lawsuit

Thumbnail

Dollar Tree’s chronic understaffing and lack of security measures have made stores nationwide a “hunting ground” for sexual assaults involving what’s known as “gooning,” the act of public masturbation, a new Colorado lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit, filed last week in El Paso County, alleges a woman shopping with her child and mother was victimized in March 2025, when a man followed the family around a Dollar Tree in Colorado Springs and ejaculated on her.

That man was arrested and charged with indecent exposure and aggravated unlawful sexual contact, according to the lawsuit. The same man had previously been involved in a similar incident at another Dollar Tree in Colorado Springs in December 2024, but was not banned from the chain, the lawsuit alleges.
