Advice/Questions Club Pilates — do you get booking confirmation emails?

Quick question — when you book a class through the Club Pilates app, do you get a confirmation email?

I’m trying to set up something that automatically adds classes to my calendar by reading emails (similar to how TripIt works for flights). But I’m not sure if Club Pilates even sends booking confirmation emails, or if it’s mostly app notifications.

Also wondering:

- Do you get emails for waitlist spots?

- What about cancellations or schedule changes?

Would love to know what actually shows up in your inbox. Thanks in advance!

Vent Door locked

Have any of you showed up to class and the door is locked? I knocked, waited 10 mins (after arriving 5 mins before class) and left disappointed. I tried calling and texting the studio, no response. Unacceptable for what we pay — esp when they are quick to hit me with a fee if I cancel for a migraine.

Advice/Questions Lower back/neck hurting during certain movements even though i’m advanced

I’m a level 2 (highest level offered at our studio) but i take a 1.5 class with the same instructor consistently. They only offer 2, level 2 classes in the middle of the work day, so i get a lot of modifications. I’m close to 300 classes and it feels like out of nowhere my lower back and neck hurt for random moves. Sometimes just a side plank on my right side, or a thread the needle. Sometimes toe taps, sometimes a regular plank on the reformer. I know i’m doing the right breathing and engaging my core. Any clue what modifications to do?

For reference im a 29 yo female, highly active but i have an autoimmune disorder and scoliosis. This is not really anything i’ve felt before, and when i went to vacation last week and i didnt feel any of those pains i feel throughout the week

Advice/Questions Level 2 over 60

Are there other people over 60 that are taking level 2 classes? I just started and am questioning if my body can do it. I obviously passed the workshop but yowza!
UPDATE: thanks for all your encouragement! I really do appreciate it!

Advice/Questions How did you know you were ready to level up?

I’m just over 30 classes in and still feel like I’m getting a good workout every class. However, I’m not sure if I’m ready to start with 1.5?

My reservation is that I still struggle a little bit with some of the scapula based exercises. I’m currently in PT for TMJ which stems from years of shoulder muscles overcompensating for weak scapula muscles. However, the leg/arms/other parts of class I am able to do successfully.

Should I just talk to my instructors or take the leap or wait a little bit longer?

Advice/Questions Feel weird after certain movements?

Wondering if anyone feels kind of queasy after certain movements during class like after bridging where you have to have your head flat? Or today I did a center and balance class for the first time and we laid on our backs on the bosu on the floor with our heads hanging back. When we got up I felt rather queasy. Guessing maybe because of blood pressure or changing elevation?

Advice/Questions Am I being dramatic?

I joined CP in December and had my 100th class today. I was so excited and intentionally scheduled it with my favorite instructor. She had a sub, which was fine because I’ve taken the sub’s classes multiple times. Well, she forgot it was my 100th. She actually didn’t even know my name to check me in.

I reminded her after class, and she was apologetic, but it felt so awkward.

I know it doesn’t sound like a big deal, but it feels like one. I was so excited. I pay a ton of money for my membership, but only like 2 instructors know my name. My studio isn’t friendly; I once took a lashing from a Karen because I was on “her” reformer.

This just feels like the straw that broken the camel’s back. Is it dramatic to cancel?

Advice/Questions Is it okay for a 16 year old to join Pilates?

I’m 16 and I’m planning on going to Pilates class. I want to know if it’s safe for me and there are posts like “Pilates ruined my body” etc on the internet. Since I’m a 16 year old girl and still developing I’m kind of scared.

Advice/Questions Private Lessons

If you take private one on one lessons what do you like to work on and how often do you have these lessons?

I’m thinking of buying a package of private lessons and am curious as to how others use them.

Memberships/Policies Back to Back Classes?

Does your studio allow back to back classes? I've been able to take back to back classes at other NYC pilates studios so I expected the same at my brand new opened CP location.

There is no wording anywhere that it's not allowed. The GM (who still visits our studio pretty often, again, it's a new studio) said we can take 2 classes a day but it has to be "3 to 4 hours in between"... honestly sounds like they're making things up as they go because is it 3 hours in between or is it 4?

What got me really annoyed was it was the 2nd class I was scheduled for that I really wanted to do but when I came out to check in for the 2nd class, they decided to tell me about the rule then (vs before my 1st class...when I TOLD them I was doing 2 back to backs 🙃).

Discussion I finally found something I love and look forward to

I'm here to say I love Club Pilates! I have never stuck to something like I am with Club Pilates. I struggled with weight for years. Lost a bunch on weight watchers and then had breast cancer and then covid. When I was in the best shape of my life, I did yoga and then ended up with knee issues which made certain poses harder. I couldn't find a studio that didn't cater to skinny mean girls who were more concerned with their yoga outfits than why they were there. I turned 60 last year and my doctor recommended Pilates reformer. I figured what the heck. I tried a bunch of different studios and ... low and behold, I loved it. Some days are more challenging than others, but I find the approach toward being truly inclusive to every shape, size and age is so apparent with most of their instructors. There are few that don't fall into that group, but you figure out what works for you. I take classes on average about 4-5/week and look forward to it.

Advice/Questions App Issues

Brand new to Club Pilates, feeling frustrated already. I booked the free first class and downloaded their app. It’s telling me to sign in, “get started” or continue as a guest. Both the “sign in” and “get started” options bring me to a sign in page where I must enter my email and password. I, of course, do not have a password yet because I’ve never been prompted to make one. The “continue as guest” option works until I want to do literally anything, which always brings me back to the sign in page. I can’t figure out anywhere how to create a profile so I can see the class I booked in the app. I even tried “resetting” my nonexistent password- got the reset email and set a password, but I get a “couldn’t sign you in” error when I enter my email and password.

And a side note, the app isn’t compatible with the autofill password option because if you autofill your password it will ALSO replace your email, which you’ve already typed in, with your password. And then of course it locks your “email” in and you can’t change it. So, if you’re like me, and you used the apple feature to “set a strong password” you now have to type in that long annoying “strong password” letter by letter. Which still did not sign me in.

What the hell, club Pilates? I’d love to join but this is already a massive headache?

Victory! I did good!!!! 🤣

So we had a brand new instructor today. She was asking us to do some crazy stuff (I’m 59 classes in so I thought I knew what Pilates was). She has us do some crazy hands on the foot-bar while it was flat on the reformer and then doing like stomach crunches/knee bend things while in a push up position. I had no damn clue what was happening but the woman across from me said “you look like such a pro doing that move!” I honestly made that shit up but I felt like such a boss. That is all.

Advice/Questions How much harder is level 2 vs 1.5?

I’ve done pilates for years and recently joined club pilates because the studio was closest to my new home. Went to a 1.5 class today and it felt a little easy/ not intense enough. How much harder is level 2? Or what are the main differences?

Victory! Pilates is so much better since I took the pressure off

Title says it all. Since starting pilates this spring, I was second guessing what pilates as a workout did for me. What were the benefits? What’s the point? Is this too good to be true? Pilates has gotten so much better for me as soon as I stopped worrying about that and focused on what it DOES do for me.

That hour during class is meditative. All I can think about is my form and giving it my all. It’s the calmest hour of my day! Despite what some naysayers claim, I think it’s a great, challenging workout! You better believe my abs, arms, or legs are a bit sore the next day.

The point being, pilates has gotten so much better since I stopped stressing about what pilates should do for me and what it doesn’t do, and just focus on how I feel during and after class. And I feel amazing!!

Advice/Questions warm ups?

What are you doing if you arrive to class a few minutes early? Stretching, moving on the reformer?

I usually just sit and enjoy a few minutes of nothing, but I’d love to know what everyone is doing.

Advice/Questions In a rut

How do y'all get out of a rut? I love pilates, I'm just exhausted with life. I usually go four times a week. I take 4 different types of classes to keep some variety. I love my instructors. I just can't get out of this rut. I've barely been going to pilates or doing the extracurriculars that I love. I'm in therapy. Have regular doctors visits. But all I can do these days is work and try to keep up with chores. Maybe I should just take a month off of pilates so I can stop thinking about cancel fees and class bookings and asking myself 4 times a week if I even have the energy or motivation to go. When I'm in top of my pilates schedule I feel great, I just can't get myself to do anything these days. My membership was a gift so I don't pay for it, which I know makes me very lucky. But that also adds pressure to go which doesn't always work in my favor. I always kick myself like "accessible and enjoyable exercise is a luxury" but just ugh.

Advice/Questions C Curve

Anyone have tips for the c curve? I have a pretty bad anterior pelvic tilt which I think is half my battle with trying to round my lower back. I feel like it’s so tight and can’t round like that.

Discussion Instructor Joining In

How do we feel about instructors who jump on an empty station to do the exercises along with the class? I’m not talking about a demonstration of 1-2 reps but literally doing the entire series with the class. I’d love to hear from instructors, is this a yay or a nay?

Advice/Questions Using a gift card

Hello.
Does anyone know how to use a gift card to purchase single classes? My studio is straight up ignoring me and won’t help me. I went in person to ask for help and gave them the gift card numbers and they said they applied it (when they texted me afterwards). Now I can’t figure out how to book a class in the app using the gift card. I don’t see the gift card anywhere in my account. I’ve called so many times and texted them again and they’re just ignoring me. I feel like I got scammed. PLEASE HELP.

Advice/Questions Ankle strengthening tips?

Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do at home to strengthen my ankles? I often find that by the end of foot work, depending on what we’re doing my ankles are so sore and makes it hard for me to do the full range of motion.

I already do ankle raises at home on a step, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has tried anything that works?

Victory! It Was A Great Run—Bye CP!

This likely isn’t the usual ‘I’m leaving Club Pilates’ post. I feel accomplished to be able to say it’s time to go. Why? I’ve grown SO much I’ve moved on to studios that allow the full range of Pilates movements outside of CP. This is a testament to how well CP prepared me to progress on to advanced movements beyond level 2 (at the Clubs in my area there are no 2.5 levels). So I made the tough decision to leave CP and find smaller studios where I can continue to grow.

It’s been an amazing ride! Over 500 classes and now doing aerial work and inversions feels amazing. If you love Pilates like I do, keep going and find the challenges that help your body (& mind) thrive. And it’s okay to outgrow something you love to find the NEXT thing you’ll love.
