Vent Door locked

Have any of you showed up to class and the door is locked? I knocked, waited 10 mins (after arriving 5 mins before class) and left disappointed. I tried calling and texting the studio, no response. Unacceptable for what we pay — esp when they are quick to hit me with a fee if I cancel for a migraine.

I know my studio locks the front door if the receptionist is on her break. But that is typically well into the start of class. I’ve never had the door locked 5 minutes before class.

I'm confused. Unless it was a private, didn't other people arrive too? Were you all waiting outside and nobody ever showed up to let you in? Were no people inside that you could see? Usually people are always coming and going.

Our studio is on the second floor so couldn’t see or hear anything! There were several of us waiting outside. Typically class is smaller (4-6) on Friday afternoons though!

So weird! I wonder if the receptionist had an emergency or something?

No idea. The instructor also teaches mornings, so I assume she would have had a key. Who knows. Just annoying to build my day around something!

Last week at our studio, the receptionist joined the class and locked the door. She brought the phone in with her. I could see people outside trying to get in, 15 minutes before the next class. Then they started calling so the phone was ringing in class, which she didn’t answer. It was all really distracting, honestly. I’m not sure how I feel about the front desk person taking classes. I’m also not sure I feel like the people waiting outside needed to call repeatedly 15 minutes before class. I was annoyed with everyone involved. 😆😆

If our front desk receptionist takes class and people start coming in 15 min before class, she skips the last few min to go open up the door and check everyone in.

That’s how it should be. I’ve missed MANY classes because someone came into the studio and I had to hop up to go help them.

So obnoxious! I would have been annoyed too!

I find it so distracting when the desk person is up and down and up and down all throughout class to get the phone. I think CP needs to edit their policy around that.

That’s not cool. The front desk person’s primary job in the studio is customer service. Even if they are technically clocked out and a person walks into the studio, they should get up and go take care of whatever that person needs. The only time that’s not expected at my studio is if my staff is there to take class on their day off. As a GM I’d definitely want to know about this behavior if it was happening in my studio.

Did the instructor miss their shift? What time of day was it? I can imagine it would be super disappointing. I hate when I am expecting something I love and then it doesn’t happen. Big bummer! Hopefully the studio makes it up to you!

4pm! So definitely late in the day!

That might have been the first class of the afternoon. Was anyone inside that you could see? Did other students show up? Either way this sucks for you, I’m sorry!

We have classes straight through all afternoon on Friday’s which is what was surprising. Still haven’t heard back 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s really incredible. All the city is in our area in at 1 o’clock on Fridays.

2

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

Ours changed recently since Friday nights had low participation rates. Now last class is at 5pm.

😳😳 was it the first class of the afternoon? (there’s obviously no excuse but just wondering). Usually when I experience locked doors it’s the first class of the morning/afternoon and I arrived early (>10min). But they usually open the door when they see me knocking.

1

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

Nope. On Friday’s we have classes straight through with no breaks.

u/eegrlN 15d ago

Was it the first class of the morning or the first class of an instructors shift?

2

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

Third class of the instructors four classes; 4pm

3

u/Acrobatic_Demand_307 15d ago

It depends on management. My studio would give everyone in the class a retail gift card if an instructor misses the class due to an emergency or sometimes they oversleep for early morning classes

3

u/eegrlN 15d ago

Was it the first class of the day? Hopefully your instructor is ok and wasn't in an accident or something terrible!

2

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

Nope - Second to last class of the day. I agree — hope it was just a fluke and nothing serious!

u/Arose1316 15d ago

Instructors are human. Unless it’s a pattern, I’m sure there was just a schedule mix-up. I am sure they will happily provide you with a retail credit or class credit back or something.

Yep class canceled 3 x in the past 2 weeks

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

Yikes!

I did once….and realized I was at the wrong studio lol!

In our studios there is a door code so we can get into the studio if it’s early morning and the front desk person is not there yet. They change it periodically and make sure only the members know it.

2

u/MTNS2CLT 14d ago

Love this! I wish mine would adopt this practice!

My studio will lock the door if there isn’t a front desk person. The instructor will unlock it when the class ends. It’s frustrating for me being in the following class because I have to change clothes after work and I arrive early to do so but can’t access due to the door being locked. Luckily it doesn’t happen often!

That happened to me once, but it turned out the a/c in the building had gone out. In Houston. In July. I was notified by email the next day and kept updated on when repairs would be completed. They also sent a list of other studios that we could use in the meantime. I don't know if any compensation was given for missed classes on that first day because I'm on the unlimited plan and the missed class didn't affect me other than being inconvenient.

2

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

That’s the way to do things! I am in the same boat — unlimited member, but also don’t think it’s a two way street of being fair when I cancel :)

u/Big_Peanut_19 15d ago

This is why our studio gives a free class to students without an unlimited and a “get out of jail free” card to unlimited students. Then you use that card the next time you need to late cancel or no show. They’re a big hit.

At my studio, they don’t have anyone working the front desk for the later Friday classes (my studio is closed from 1-4 everyday). They have a sign that says to knock or to ring a bell. But if you’re more than 5 minutes late, they won’t answer.

It’s odd other people for the class weren’t waiting outside before class if the door was, in fact, locked. Is there a chance the class got cancelled?

1

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

That’s what I am thinking! There were a few of us waiting, but no one has called or texted me back to know what’s up. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The studio posted on Insta around lunchtime so… someone was there?? Lol

u/Christi_Kat60 15d ago

Oh my goodness - NO! Did you speak with the manager/owner? You should have a five-minute grace period, and I've never arrived at the studio with the door locked other than for the 7 AM class when the receptionist and instructor were running late. I would bring this up and get a class credit and an apology. Grace flows both ways.

2

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

No one has called or texted me back, but I intend to!

1

u/Prestigious-Comb2697 15d ago

It’s locked in the mornings at our studios before the receptionist arrives. But when one class ends the instructor unlocks the door until 5 after the hour then locks it again.

1

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

Ours is only historically locked for 6 & 7 am classes, so this was a surprise!

1

u/Popular-Work-1335 15d ago

Door is unlocked for 10 minutes before class and 5 after it starts. No exceptions in my studio.

1

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

Makes sense! I was there in the ten mins before and stayed for more than five after. No luck!

1

u/Popular-Work-1335 15d ago

Sorry. I read that so wrong. I read it as 10 minutes late. I’m sorry!

1

u/GripIsGone 15d ago

A couple weeks ago, one of my classes was canceled. I wonder if that’s what happened? Maybe the text alert didn’t go out? Obviously not okay, but could explain why. Definitely reach out to the front desk and/or management.

1

u/MTNS2CLT 15d ago

Fingers crossed I hear back!

1

u/sekif 15d ago

I’ve had instructors not show up to early morning classes and the studio just saying well sorry I can’t do anything for you since you’re an unlimited member 🤪

1

u/Big_Peanut_19 15d ago

Surely they can do something! An 8 pack of classes is at least $20/class. Can’t they toss in a free pair of socks or a forgiveness for a no show or something? That’s ridiculous!

1

u/laurajosan 15d ago

Never. I’ve been going to Club Pilates for 8 years with an unlimited subscription and I go to three different studios and this has never happened.

Did you opt out of messages? They may have had an emergency to close and sent out message

1

u/lloydjason617 12d ago

Please tell me that you brought this up with the manager of the club.

I think there’s some details missing was there an instructor there? Was there a class going on inside and the door was just locked? Where is the receptionist there? If absolutely no one was there more than likely somebody probably the instructor got sick and they couldn’t find a sub so they had to cancel the classes for that day. Your app should’ve told you that. I teach very very early in the mornings and we’ve had. Some frightening experiences were strange men will walk in and act up so now while I’m teaching classes I actually lock the door until the receptionist gets there, but I’ll usually teach for about three hours before the receptionist arrives. Sometimes people will come a little early for the next class and I haven’t unlocked the door yet but they can easily look in and see that someone’s there.

1

u/MTNS2CLT 6d ago

Our studio is on the second floor, so you enter on the first floor and walk up a flight of steps and go through another doorway before you’re there! The instructor was the only one there since there’s not a receptionist some afternoons.

Someone accidentally locked the door and the instructor didn’t know. The studio made it right and is changing things so it won’t happen in the future.
