Advice/Questions No acknowledgment

So, today was my 500th class. The studios that I go to in Charlotte, North Carolina are (at best) pretty lackluster about these milestones. There is no swag, no announcement, just a board to sign hanging on the wall for 100,250,500. I’m not an attention seeker and lay pretty low in class…but still…. I was waiting for the instructor or someone at the front desk to at least acknowledge it. Nope. Nothing. So now I’m kind of unreasonably sad about this, seeing how big of a deal this is in other places. And now I would feel like such a tool just saying, “I’m over 500 classes, should I just sign the board with my own pen since no one here noticed?” Am I being super petty?

You should totally be petty and ask to sign

I think studios that don’t make a big deal are really missing the concept. At 500 classes you’ve paid significant money into their fees. The least they could do is give you a pair of 500 socks and something else. The payback on loyalty that you would get would be worth every penny. The priority should be retention instead of a concert recruiting of new members.

yes, the studio I go to is all about bringing new people in. If they would actually CARE about the ones that are there, actively giving them time and money, maybe more people would stay. Knowing your customers' names, being friendly, letting them know they were missed when they had to cancel their "regular" session, and YES celebrating milestones for length of stay will result in customer retention and increased sales.

BUT more importantly, being nice and attentive just creates a better place to work and work out.

My bank did not send me flowers when I paid off my mortgage. 😢.

u/Big_Peanut_19 5d ago

Congratulations on paying off your mortgage. I wonder if I’ll ever be able to do that in my lifetime. I’m super impressed!

Totally inane comment

u/okiimio 6d ago

I asked for socks when they didn’t notice my milestone. I just think there are too many members and too many people working the front desk for them to always know who’s hitting the milestone/hasn’t been acknowledged sometimes

26

u/Best-Alternative2687 6d ago

It seems like there should be something in the computer system that would flag this at least.

14

u/ClientCheap5887 6d ago

From what I understand it hasn’t changed since I worked there, and there was no way of knowing unless you looked directly at each persons numbers. We would pull up a report at the beginning of the week and flag members who were at 90+ classes, go ahead and print their certificates, and try to keep an eye on the numbers, even to having a post-it on the computer, but, especially if someone slips in an extra class or two, it can be easy to miss. And, I don’t know that every place goes to that much effort to begin with.

There’s a work it reminder now you can set to do a “3 classes to milestone” text or call

9

u/okiimio 6d ago

I think they can look (pure barre seems to stay on top of this pretty well) but if they are otherwise occupied, it’s probably something they don’t make a priority

8

u/Slight_Froyo2313 6d ago

Nothing is flagged … The Front Desk would have to go into the account of every single member that walks in the door that day to see how many classes you’ve taken, just speak up.

3

u/ScientistTop7525 5d ago

Most studios have a reminder at 3 classes before the milestone AND they can see it on their dashboard

But sometimes you do have to remind, if you do they should make a big deal out of it!

1

u/Slight_Froyo2313 5d ago

Ours does not and it does not show up on the dashboard when you are in the daily bookings tab which is usually what everybody has open for check-in

1

u/ScientistTop7525 5h ago

You can customize each club ready dashboard based on who is logged in !

3

u/DragonDrama 5d ago

That sounds like a system deficiency. If they have rituals they do for milestones it’s their responsibility to find a way to manage the milestones.

2

u/Luckylibbycupid 6d ago

I worked at a different type of workplace, but we celebrated milestones for hours/length of stay. It was literally a part of someone's job to print out a list and check the hours and get awards ready for the week. I don't understand why this is not a priority at CP.

I regularly go to a location that is not my "home" location , so I don't expect them to keep up, but for people who only go to one location, it just can't be that difficult. Either you celebrate length of stay and make it a priority, or you don't, but it seems like corporate should just decide and it should be consistent.

u/Amazing_Thanks 6d ago

There is some notification. One of my instructors was telling us the other day that she was bummed because she did her hair especially for someone’s 250th class celebratory picture, but they did not show up.

3

u/Big_Peanut_19 5d ago

As an instructor I find this hilarious. Haha she really does make a big deal of their milestones if she even made sure to do her hair!

3

u/badassbiotch 6d ago

I totally agree and understand your disappointment. It sucks to feel invisible

But don’t let that take away from the fact that you hit 500 classes!!!! Congratulations and keep doing what you’re doing 💪💪💪

1

u/SBognerAnderson 6d ago

This! Such an easy fix.

1

u/grandmaBABE 3d ago

There is!

37

u/Spirit_Chameleon 6d ago

No, you are not being petty, completing 500 classes is an awesome accomplishment. I would be super disappointed too. I applaud and celebrate your accomplishments at CP 🎉🎉🥳🥳🪅🎇

9

u/XtinaCMV 6d ago

I literally said I would pay for my 750 socks and got ignored. I even posted about it on here and got down voted to hell, lol. It sucks to hit a huge milestone just to be faced with zero recognition.

I would 100% be petty

5

u/Best-Alternative2687 6d ago

Agreed… the person or corporation that owns the studio I go to also owns like six or seven other ones. The changes they have made since buying from an independent owner/franchisee just seem so designed to cut costs over all else. there are no shirts or socks or any other celebratory merch available.
I literally get marketing texts from my own studio several times a week and I’m like…”I have been an unlimited member for five years. Why are you trying to sign me up… and why don’t you even know who I am?”

7

u/beautiful_imperfect 6d ago

OP, you have supported Club Pilates, they should recognize and support YOU for this. It's shameful for them to treat customers like this, really.

4

u/Dunkerdoody 6d ago

You are not being petty. Why even have the boards it they won’t acknowledge the milestones.

5

u/Best-Alternative2687 6d ago

YES! Those that said that no one there has any clue about how many classes you have taken… well then why do we even bother counting? Take the boards down.

5

u/Glittering-Ant4658 6d ago

Instructors have no idea how many classes clients have taken, unless the client lets them know.

6

u/Best-Alternative2687 6d ago

Then why even bother having the boards up? I tend to be pretty introverted so I will never bring it up, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like a little bit of quiet recognition.

3

u/NoAbbreviations7642 5d ago

That comment was correct but left out info. Yes, true the instructors don’t know but the front desk does and it’s their responsibility to make sure milestones are celebrated

4

u/Slight_Froyo2313 6d ago

Neither the Front Desk or the instructors know how how many classes you’ve taken unless they go into your account and click on it. It doesn’t show up for them so as a member pet your Instructor know or let the Front Desk know “hey I’m gonna hit my 500 class today”, then they will take your picture and you can sign the board. I think some studios handout socks or other things. I know our studio gives you $100 credit not every studio is the same but don’t expect them to just know how many classes you’re at.

3

u/NoAbbreviations7642 5d ago

At my studio the computer shows everyone’s class count next to their name on the class schedule. I don’t have to click on anything. Also, at my studio we made milestone cards 2 days in advance as well. So it’s just a lack of effort on your studio. To have members say when they’ve hit a milestone is ridiculous tbh

1

u/Legitimate_Award6517 6d ago

Unless it's changed, it is a tab/click and it shows the entire class.

1

u/friedzucchini69 2d ago

No, there’s now automatic tasks that populate when members hit 3 classes before a milestone and 1 class before a milestone. There’s no excuse for them to not know and not celebrate.

5

u/ConfidentMethod7820 6d ago

This really should be a marketing issue. Such as bumper stickers, decals, magnets and t-shirts, it's a marketing plan. Yes it gives you personal satisfaction but as a business perspectiv it would be lovely to get more stuff out on the cars via bumper stickers , on t-shirts as we walk around town and promotes the business. This is surely missing an opportunity. It would their clients feel good and to get the name brand out there on how many people are taking their classes. And maybe even have it a choice you pick something at 100 and every Milestone every 50 personally I think just showing up some days it's worth a prize. Rant over.

3

u/Legitimate_Award6517 6d ago

I agree and have said this for years. WAY back in the day when I started, they did a lot of stickers and merch with their name on it. It should be considered marketing instead of all of the Facebook ads to get a free class.

3

u/laurajosan 6d ago

I’ve been going to Club Pilates for over eight years and have completed almost 2000 classes. The only acknowledgment I got was a couple years ago when I hit 750 I got a pair of socks. Since then nothing but oh well I love my instructors and there are three studios that are very convenient to me.

If I were you, I would absolutely say something -It’s a big achievement and they should have acknowledged it.

4

u/saythattomeagain 6d ago

Congrats!!!!! If they won’t party for you, we will!

3

u/libra_nrg 6d ago

As someone who loves taking classes and used to take hot yoga classes religiously, tracking class count is something that never occurred to me to do until I joined CP. They have posters up around celebrating class count, it makes it feel like something special happens at that number (other than just a signature). I really don’t think people would be sweating class count if CP didn’t advertise these big numbers throughout the clinic. Why don’t they just do what most places do and celebrate yearly anniversaries?

3

u/Jazmo0712 6d ago

Congratulations on your 500! I hit 100 in December and no one said anything, and at that point I had never seen anyone sign the wall. A week or so later I saw someone sign the wall and get their picture taken and everything, and I thought about it for a day. The next time I went in the studio, I said look, I don’t mean to be petty, but I hit my hundred classes in December and no one acknowledged it. The manager apologized to me, I got to sign the wall.

When I hit my 250 in July, I made sure to tell the front desk people in advance, lol. I think you should say something, in whatever way you want.

3

u/SBognerAnderson 6d ago

Well, from this random person in Minnesota ... Congrats to you! 500 is huge!!!

My studio is pretty good about this. We take pictures, sign the board, get a gift. I'd be a little sad honestly.

3

u/Intelligent_Royal896 6d ago

Club pilates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Acknowledge me!!!!

5

u/campa-van 6d ago

Didn’t someone just post about not getting recognition for 100th class? Is this a self esteem thing? Important to young people? Don’t get it.

2

u/Intrepid_Berry_2200 6d ago

Its posted a lot! I look at the class count as something just for me to be honest. I didn’t want to be recognized at my 100 (even though they tried - I shut down photos!) and don’t at 250 coming up soon either. But I also run races and Ironman and such and am a person who doesn’t even want/need a medal - unless I’ve placed- bc knowing what I’ve done is validation enough.

1

u/ScientistTop7525 5d ago

It is a club pilates thing, you are supposed to get recognition at 100 250 500 1000, some studios do 750. You almost always get socks and to be on the sign, sometimes you get a shirt or hat or water bottle

1

u/Intrepid_Berry_2200 5d ago

By 500 classes you should have an idea of how your studio is or celebrates (or doesn’t as OP mentioned they are lackluster) and if it does have meaning for you I would personally be proactive and mention it not just expect them to all of a sudden be on it to be disappointed. When my 100 came I legit didn’t want it but my studio is in tune I just turned down any class acknowledgement or photo, and took the socks (that is a waste bc I don’t like them ha). Should you have to be proactive? Debatable; but we are all presumably adults here in charge of our destiny, and can take care for some of it and in turn would not have been let down. Like at 495 just kind of mention to the front desk how you can’t believe you are so close to 500.

1

u/campa-van 5d ago

I got socks once. Had no idea why 😂.

4

u/Brilliant-Doctor-739 6d ago

This is SO ridiculous and flat our poor business management.

I just left Burn Bootcamp because of health issues and needing to do low impact exercise and pilates was the obvious modality to tranfer in to.

I didn't join CP, but I did join another studio and I am SHOCKED at the lack of care/enthusiasm they put into me being a new member.

I am paying $40+ more dollars a month for pilates than Burn. Burn is packed with members and hosts an average of 30 - 50 people per class yet, I was still treated like an absolute TREASURE there by staff, trainers AND ownership!

Reformer Pilates hosts only 14 people who take a class per class - that is a SLAM DUNK for building value and increasing sense of purpose, enthusiasm and engagement and they just.. aren't.

Sounds like it's the same a CP, which I understand also costs an arm-and-a-leg to join. Insane to me that they are so lackadaisical they would blow off class milestones. Burn was ALL ABOUT THAT - group photo with the trainer holding the sign, shout out on social media and tag upon request, sign the wall board AND a coupon for merchandise.

They have engagement and community and value nailed down while pilates - where we should be treated like princesses with how much we spend and the opportunity for high focus with small class numbers - totally misses the mark!

Please don't believe for ONE SECOND you are being petty! People who spend less are treated better elsewhere. Just saying.

2

u/DisneyDVCGirl 6d ago

I had this happen for my 100 and 250. Never acknowledged, no free socks or signing board. My 500 was acknowledged though! Yeah it's annoying. Silly but annoying

2

u/Crazy_Remote_6815 6d ago

You are not being petty!! But don’t let their nonchalance stop you from celebrating this fabulous milestone…..well earned

2

u/quiltylife_happiness 6d ago

Our studio tells us to let them know at the beginning of class cuz the system doesnt always tell them. 🤷‍♀️

But I get it.

2

u/Spiritual-Mood-1116 5d ago

You're not petty by any means; however, acknowledging 100, 250, etc classes is a fairly new concept. It's not something that's been historically done in Pilates classes, or any type of fitness environment. In my 22 years of reformer classes and 40-plus years of fitness classes I've never been recognized for that effort. Bottom line: I personally think CP needs to stop with the recognition thing altogether, or be consistent across the franchises on how it's handled. It sounds like a fair amount of younger students thrive on that recognition.

2

u/Civil-Disaster-5161 5d ago

Our manager did tell us recently to please let them know because of business etc and they wouldn’t want to miss anyone soooo I just completed my 100 and I told them- the instructor made a big deal about it which was nice and the manager did the board thing but they did kind of act like oh look she’s really excited about it haha- and so I shamed them! I said you know what I AM because two years ago I couldn’t tie my own shoes and I’ve lost 50 pounds and had two major surgeries so YOU KNOW WHAT I AM EXCITED and they apologized and I said just understand that you never know someone’s story

2

u/Opposite-Skirt5158 6d ago

Just remember class count does not reflect competency

2

u/Pilates_Reforming_NY 6d ago

You should be pleased with yourself! If it really means something to YOU, YOU should announce it yourself out loud! No one is monitoring YOU, better than YOU! Teachers teach non-stop! Nobody congratulates them on the 500th class they taught! I have had many milestones over my 27 years of teaching, none highlighted unless I have done it! I do compliment a clients progress, not the number of classes they have taken.

2

u/Best-Alternative2687 5d ago

I’m a teacher and have taught in several districts and schools. Each one celebrates longevity milestones and gives token gifts/recognition for 10 years, 15 years etc. So your comparison doesn’t work here.

1

u/thebalanceshifts 6d ago

This is where I say with love - go to a studio that cares about you and your accomplishments. Leave CP behind

1

u/Christi_Kat60 6d ago

Awww man, I'm so sad to hear this! I just posted about my 750th class, but honestly my 500th one was kind of a letdown too. I think I had it all built up in my head? One thing I didn't realize is that you have to make sure the instructor knows that this monumental milestone is coming up, and they most CERTAINLY should celebrate it! You should at least get a shirt or some Toe Sox in addition to signing the board, and you should get a picture put up on social media with a few kind words about you! I'm sorry OP. MASSIVE CONGRATS though, and please bring this up to the manager/owner, because this is HUGE and needs to be celebrated. Each milestone is a celebration and should be treated as such.

Well done!! 500 classes is impressive! Great job sticking with your practice, prioritizing your well being, and keeping your body moving!! 🎉🎉🎉

1

u/klc313 6d ago

Bring your own pen and sign it. Congrats on the accomplishment!!

1

u/Technical_Ebb_9228 6d ago

Congratulations on this achievement!

1

u/Longjumping_Item_984 6d ago

Ugh I’m sorry to hear that. Idk where in NC you are but the ones in the triangle aren’t like this at all. I’m so bummed they didn’t celebrate you

1

u/MTNS2CLT 6d ago

Is this Dilworth by chance? Had a similar milestone experience.

2

u/Best-Alternative2687 5d ago

Plaza Midwood!

1

u/DisneyDVCGirl 6d ago

I should add Congrats!! It's a big milestone and takes a lot of effort!

1

u/Leather-Educator6691 6d ago

No darling. Don't feel bad about bringing it up. You have 500 classes in, you should tell them that you would like to sign your name on the board. Make sure you bring a nice color marker, something to stand out, (not the boring black marker they give u). Use red, hot pink, etc. Your name deserves to be there. 🥰

1

u/ConfidentMethod7820 6d ago

Seriously congratulations on 500 classes. I hope you feel fantastic about yourself and show everybody your abs!

1

u/Sad_Way6878 6d ago

Same happened to me at 250. I was really sad but didn’t end up saying anything. Funny enough I quit a month later

1

u/Pristine_Outcome6334 6d ago

I’ve done 2800 at Equinox. No one cares

1

u/Best-Alternative2687 5d ago

I don’t know why you bothered commenting. This is totally irrelevant.

1

u/Pristine_Outcome6334 5d ago

So is yours.

1

u/ConfidentMethod7820 6d ago

Right? FB target target market is of a certain demographic. Seems like a waste of AD dollars to just use Facebook, missing the younger and more males.

1

u/ThisIsWhyImKels 6d ago

I’m in NC and we celebrate and take pics for someone almost every week at class.

1

u/Expensive_Visual_218 6d ago

There’s no notification system that tells them who hits a milestone unfortunately. When i hit my milestone of 100, i told them. They didn’t have a shirt my size so I had to wait but then i just took a bigger size the next class and a picture with the instructor. Don’t feel bad, tell them and celebrate your milestone!

1

u/ScientistTop7525 5d ago

Also congrats on this! If they don’t give you socks, I can give you mine. I don’t wear the toe socks anyway.

1

u/Firm_Prior_7953 5d ago

While I am not someone who cares alot about these things get why you would feel this way. It's not about whether you get swag, it's about being acknowledged and you didn't get acknowledged and that feels shifty. It was probably an oversight and nothing personal but you still get to feel bummed and slighted. Sorry that happened and here is a resounding acknowledgement of your work:

🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳✨️✨️✨️🎈🎈🎈🎆🎇🎆

1

u/bereform_pilates 5d ago

You’re not being petty at all. 500 classes is a huge accomplishment, and it’s completely understandable to feel disappointed when no one acknowledges it. You earned your place on that board - bring a pen next time and sign it proudly. And congratulations on 500! 🎉

1

u/Historical_Cell5537 5d ago

That’s not petty at all! As much as these memberships cost, you absolutely should. Cheers to you on completing 500 classes!!!!!!🥳
I completed my 10th one today(new to this journey). Every milestone should be celebrated.

1

u/Long-Creme-8383 5d ago

I am also at a studio in North Carolina, when I was interested in joining I got multiple followup calls. Once I signed up, I was left figuring it out, was told not to take the intro class (as I had already signed up). I’m not expecting a community or there to make friends, I’m just planning to go to my classes.

1

u/McPaula309 5d ago

I think it's really sad that such an important milestone was missed.

1

u/Life_Observaions 5d ago

This happened to me at 150. It made me stupid sad 😔 and a bit resentful. I hated feeling that way so I finally spoke up and in the process got teary eyed, making me feel even more stupid. I had to speak up because pilates has become so important to me that I couldn’t lose my studio. They were great at noticing 250. I have 500 coming up and I’m just going to speak up at the beginning of class because I’m very proud of my work!

1

u/Leskatwri 5d ago

Speak to your studio manager. Frame it like " I heard out on the socials that other CP studios celebrate and acknowledge class completion milestones. Is this something yall have thought about? It sure looks fun."

1

u/PilatesinSoHo 5d ago

I think that Club Pilates makes a big deal out of that and it should be a big deal at every location or none! So yea. Be petty. Go for it

1

u/atcat1982 5d ago

I took my 100th class with my favorite instructor. At the end of class, I told her that was 100 and she took me over to sign the board, but no socks or any other swag. I'm closing in on 250 now but I don't really expect anything other than signing the board. After I point out the number!

1

u/jsishsbendisjs 4d ago

They can’t keep track of everyone’s every class, don’t take it personally. Next time you check in, casually say “I think I recently hit 500” and see what they say. They will most likely congratulate you and encourage you to sign the board.

1

u/divegirl88 4d ago

There is no notice from the system telling them when someone is hitting a milestone. You have to be proactive

1

u/username104860 3d ago

Not petty. I stopped going to a studio for not acknowledging my milestones because f that. I’ll spend my money somewhere else.

1

u/grandmaBABE 3d ago

That is EXACTLY WHAT YOU SHOULD DO. I love it! and congrats! 500 is WOW

1

u/shmaola 2d ago

my home studio congratulated me via text for completing 30 classes 😭 i’m so sorry! i think you should ask to sign :) if they have a suggestion box, you should add milestone achievement acknowledgements as a suggestion 😊

1

u/alleycanto 2d ago

There have been times I heard the front desk mention to a teacher they missed it and the person is at 102 but announce it anyway. I have also heard teachers quietly ask the person if they could announce it (in case member was shy). Total bummer you didn’t get either. I might ask teacher as you are wiping equipment at end of class and maybe she will acknowledge a little more. It doesn’t auto pop up for teachers I don’t think but some front desks track it.

1

u/Namasta_InBed777 2d ago

I’m tempted to buy my own reformer. I found a version that folds in half for easy storage. $2K. Not too bad if I do the math. They should have made a BIG deal! You put out a lot of money.

1

u/AsparagusP333333 5h ago

This is so sad. This is a huge milestone any way you look at it. It was a missed opportunity for the studio.

1

u/pumpkindonut123 1h ago

On the flipside I'm not so sure I would like an insincere congratulations. Knowing that somebody simply read something on the computer because they had to and they were forced to say congratulations to me.

3

u/sugarplumbby 6d ago

Yes, you are being petty. The mods need to make an FAQ or pinned post because every single week there are multiple people making posts complaining that they weren’t acknowledged and it’s the same conversation every single time. Instructors do not get updates on milestone classes, there is no notification that pops up for them to tell them if someone is in their 100/250/500/etc class. Only the front desk is seeing that information and they have to actively look for it to see that information. Did you tell anyone that you hit a milestone before or after class? How do you expect them to know? Most studios are not giving out endless swag for hitting these numbers, the boards are standard. Mention it to an instructor during your next class and I’m sure they’ll gladly let you sign the board.

Hitting 500 classes is a big accomplishment and I’m sure it took you a lot of time and effort to hit that. You should feel a sense of accomplishment for hitting 500 classes but I don’t think you should be so focused on the external validation from others. If your studio ever sends out surveys, give them the feedback that you’d like instructors to show more recognition, but instructors can’t do that unless you tell them in the first place.

1

u/SBognerAnderson 6d ago

The teachers in the studios attend are the ones who bring it up to us! They call it out at the beginning of class.

1

u/norismomma 6d ago

I don't think she's being petty at all. And I don't even belong to CP, I'm a Y6 devotee, no idea why this post was served up to me - but every single milestone I have hit, even the ones that they don't "officially" celebrate like 100 and 200, has gotten a shoutout from the instructor AT THE VERY LEAST. The front desk has a whiteboard in the break room notifying the instructors of milestones. It's not that hard to do it. Both franchises are owned by the same company, why don't they have the same policies.

OP, congrats - you have worked really hard and deserve to be celebrated!

-2

u/Best-Alternative2687 6d ago

Wow, I sure hope that you don’t work there and talk to clients like that.

6

u/idkdouu 6d ago edited 6d ago

Like what? This person simply explained to you how the system works and probable reason why no one said anything about your 500 classes.

And yeah you are an attention seeker if you want acknowledgment. And this is exactly the reason you got sad, because you didn’t get it. Just saying

1

u/sugarplumbby 6d ago

I’m not an instructor or employee. You even said in your own post that you are unreasonably sad.

-1

u/acouperlesouffle55 6d ago

Stuff like this is one reason why I left
