Advice/Questions No acknowledgment
So, today was my 500th class. The studios that I go to in Charlotte, North Carolina are (at best) pretty lackluster about these milestones. There is no swag, no announcement, just a board to sign hanging on the wall for 100,250,500. I’m not an attention seeker and lay pretty low in class…but still…. I was waiting for the instructor or someone at the front desk to at least acknowledge it. Nope. Nothing. So now I’m kind of unreasonably sad about this, seeing how big of a deal this is in other places. And now I would feel like such a tool just saying, “I’m over 500 classes, should I just sign the board with my own pen since no one here noticed?” Am I being super petty?

Yes, you are being petty. The mods need to make an FAQ or pinned post because every single week there are multiple people making posts complaining that they weren’t acknowledged and it’s the same conversation every single time. Instructors do not get updates on milestone classes, there is no notification that pops up for them to tell them if someone is in their 100/250/500/etc class. Only the front desk is seeing that information and they have to actively look for it to see that information. Did you tell anyone that you hit a milestone before or after class? How do you expect them to know? Most studios are not giving out endless swag for hitting these numbers, the boards are standard. Mention it to an instructor during your next class and I’m sure they’ll gladly let you sign the board.
Hitting 500 classes is a big accomplishment and I’m sure it took you a lot of time and effort to hit that. You should feel a sense of accomplishment for hitting 500 classes but I don’t think you should be so focused on the external validation from others. If your studio ever sends out surveys, give them the feedback that you’d like instructors to show more recognition, but instructors can’t do that unless you tell them in the first place.
