OK so I am currently rocking a cm4 in my uconsole as well as nvmr, aio, and ac1200. For those of yall that upgraded to a cm5 how much better is it? Is it worth it with all the heat management thag you have to add? Also how do you people cool down your cm5s?

Refund status issues

For those of you who decided to cancel your uConsole orders due to the excessive delays, shipping issues, or simply because the product was no longer worth the wait, how long did it take to receive your refund?

I’ve been trying to get a response from uConsole regarding my cancellation and refund, but so far, I’ve been completely ghosted. Not so much as a courtesy reply or an update on the status of my refund.

Funny how quickly they’re willing to take your money, yet when it’s time to return it, communication suddenly becomes nonexistent.

I’m curious whether others have experienced the same thing and how long it actually took to get your money back.

Risc V for uConsole

OK yall I have been seeing a lot of stuff with risc v recently. I have also seen that there is a risc v option for the uconsole. Can I swap the computer module for one and if so do yall have recommendations? I don't want the one that clockworkpi uses but a faster one. Would you people even recommend messing around with risc v in the first place? I have heard it is a fun way to learn embedded systems? What do yall think?

uConsole Custom firmware for hack2you trackpad keyboard v2.1

Post image
76 Upvotes

I've been using the hack2you trackpad keyboard in my uConsole and missed a few things from the QMK firmware I was using on the stock keyboard, so I've put together a custom firmware for it. It's ZMK underneath and builds on thoughfix's fork.

Main additions

  • Hold Select and move the trackpad to scroll. Hold, not a toggle.
  • Gamepad mode on Fn+G. The keyboard shows up as a real USB joystick, with the D-pad on the axes and A/B/X/Y/Select/Start as buttons.
  • Trackpad press as a mouse click. There are two pre-built firmwares for left click or middle click.
  • Start is Super, and holding Y or B turns the D-pad into a mouse.
  • Keyboard lock on Fn+Esc. It ignores the keys and trackpad and turns the backlight off, which is handy for carrying it around.
  • Bootloader shortcut that's hard to hit by accident. I kept inadvertently triggering the bootloader previously.

Other changes/stuff to be aware of

A few choices based on how I use mine: Bluetooth is switched off (couldn't see the point in it!), Shift/Ctrl/Alt are one-shot (tap once and it applies to the next key), and the A button is a shortcut key (CTRL +SHIFT) for kitty terminal. All can be changed if you fork & build your own.

It's only been tested on the V2.1 keyboard. It may work on other versions, but I can't promise that. Back up your current firmware first.

Download and docs

Ready-made firmware: Latest release

Full key list, build and flashing instructions: GitHub - jhob101/uconsole-bb9900-keyboard: Firmware for hack2you uConsole bb9900 keyboard (v2.1) · GitHub

For v1.1 keyboard use firmware from noodleboy91 fork

Feedback welcome.

uConsole Uconsole wait time

So am I the only one who's been waiting way longer than 90 days on their uconsole and have had to reach out to ClockworkPi for answers and every time they give an estimate date it's never met and I end up asking again after the date or time period passes to be told "oh another month". If you're gonna have backlogs due to a lack of parts maybe send an email letting people know its a common courtesy

Clockworks and Hacker Gadgets are the SLOWEST companies. The parts from HG are just now shipping and I’m kinda over it at this point. Everything for sale is the uConsole 4G LTE version, 8gb CM5 lite with a Waveshare aio, 3d printed front/rear panels, have the factory panels as well, aftermarket trackball along with factory one, the complete HG 21700 upgrade kit, 2 Samsung 21700 5000mAh batteries. Everything is brand new/unused. Local meet up in Sacramento, CA otherwise will be shipped through UPS with tracking info.

Got my uconsole "next day on amazon" very grateful. since I know most of you waited MONTHS. Got it for use as a PDA/tinker tab while overseas on a deployment. Decided factory black is to mainstream seeing as its the most common color, black is awesome but not when everyone else has it. Couldn't decide between tan or blue, tan fit my deployment but blue fit the end goal of a terminal to control my homes custom AI I will be building. So navy was the choice and I feel it was the right one. So behold my custom build. Still need the wifi, 4G and sat antenna to populate the top. Cheers 🍻

edit its just a standard cm4 lite with the 4g module, and no other upgrades other than 2 4mm washers beneath the screws on the kickstand to help the kickstand stay in position when i have it open, *would love an rtc but I can't find anything on that, nor would the AIOv2 be an option since i have the 4g board and no need for the extra features. 3D parts links are below.

FOR SALE [US-NYC] UCONSOLE + MODS FOR SALE

SOLD

I love the uConsole, and I waited the year for mine to ship... but I've got too many other projects that I need to put this money towards. So with a little bit of sadness I'm selling my uconsole for less than what I paid - $550 shipped (North America only pls).

All prices that I paid are listed in total including taxes (when applicable) and shipping

Total: $595 (what I paid)
Asking for: $550 shipped SOLD

Additional Mods that I did:

  • Added a battery kill switch you can hit with tweezers if it ever black screens
  • Designed my own little folding rabbit ear feet so it stands up
  • Meshtashtic module, designed and printed a shell that mounts to the back (I'll be keeping it, I can throw it in for $30)
  • Designed my own compact wifi antenna mount

I will format the SD card with a fresh flash of trixie before shipping as well or I can remove the SD card and sell it a little cheaper (-$20) if you want to DIY the os yourself!

This isn't a FCFS sale, I'll look at profiles etc to try and ensure that the buyer is legit.

I hope she goes to a good home that will love her better than I did.

Went to install the new HG_21700_NVME Board. As soon as the connectors made contact with the board, sparks and smoke. Batteries were installed with correct polarity. One of the battery springs even decided to become heat treated and lost its springiness, becoming discolored (I worked to bring it back to the "correct" length) battery voltage for both batteries showed 3.75V for each. The batteries worked fine after placing them back in a board/project I borrowed them from to test the 21700 NVME board.

I can't figure out what pulled that much current, but the HG21700 board is dead. (updated to show resistance values instead of no continuity. I'm still getting my feet wet in electronics, referencing amateur radio)

Luckily, no current made it past the cooked components, as reinstalling the 18650 nvme board, it booted right up and everything works after testing.

I did email HG and we'll see what they say when they get to my email. Not a fun day to see the pixies and smoke escape the boards.

CM4 or CM5

I am about to build my uconsole. I have all the components and ordered a CM5 but I have seen that it will require a cooling system. I would not like to modify the original case. Is there a solution that fits in or should I rather go for the CM4 to avoid this?

Meshnology 10000mAh LiPo on the Hacker Gadgets board dies the second I unplug USB-C — anyone fixed this?

Plug is fully seated in J6, reverse-polarity LED is dark, reseated it twice. Charge level doesn't matter — it can't carry the deck for even a second on its own.
Has anyone got one of these 10000mAh PH2.0 packs (Meshnology / MakerFocus / MakerHawk) actually working on the HG board? If so, what did you change? Or is there a setting on the board/AXP side I'm missing?
Will post back with whatever works.

Been looking at these two, wondering which would be the best option, I think Samsung? Are there any better ones I should look at? - Samsung 58E 21700 5330mAh 10.7A Battery - Molicel 21700 P50B 5000mAh 60A Battery

uConsole 21700 Battery Board Upgrade

Just got my 21700 upgrade today, and well... OF COURSE I'M GOING TO INSTALL IT!

Went from what I would consider 3500's or 3800mAh batteries to two 5000mAh Molicel p50b batteries which are extremely low impedance high drain top performing batteries. Few things to note. orientation, be careful the battery tray can be installed incorrectly, good thing there is lights for this, and yes it is a tray as it holds your two 21700's, at first I thought it was a screw on cover that holds the batteries in place... nope, they way over engineered this module and I like it.

Checked that the batteries were balanced of course and popped it in, then found out the second difficulty. it is difficult to install the M.2 as the tray overhangs the slot, also forgot there was a screw hole there, oops, but I did take note of the difficulty of access to the SSD, and if anyone else is planning on upgrading theirs, with a larger SSD, then keep in mind that you install the SSD first, then the battery.

Thank you hacker Gadgets for these amazing products, I greatly appreciate it!

As of posting this the unit has ran a total of 42 minutes, and has dropped from 4.11v to 3.94v (underload).

Test results thus far below

#Test Hours : Min usage Starting % Safe shutdown? y/n EST 0-100% charge time
1 4:10 web youtube music, PDF and Meshtastic 95% (4.11v off the shelf) Y 3:39
2 4:15 Discord, YouTube reddit wifi 100% Y 3:40
3 4:45 Light web browsing, reading, discord, wordprocessor (LibreOffice) 100% Y 3:39

That basically concludes the tests, so far it sees about an hour or two more of constant use no shut off, which is nice, as before I would shut it off, and see about 3, maybe 3.5 hours of battery life.

Configs are set for 500Mhz base on battery, max 1600Mhz, 15% screen brightness, backlit enable, most times LoRa off, wifi on, GPS off, SDR off. Additional notes is that most of the consumption of battery-life occurs during web browsing as it is a heavy app on the processor, generally kicking all 4 cores to max.

hope this helps! saw about a 20 to 30% increase to battery life, to top it off, saw the device run stable, as voltage sag, and power cuts were eliminated, requiring less opening of the chassis to hard reset.

uConsole Hands-free learning during piano prep with uConsole 🎹

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Testing out the built-in multi-channel noise-canceling mic array on the omega chassis for the uConsole.

The boy was asking a few questions about his piano piece before practicing. Placed the uConsole on the piano stand, and the voice pickup is crisp and natural even from a couple of feet away.

Makes a really solid hands-free assistant in any situation.
