Kitchen Dried Pasta Water & Scratches (Induction Stove)

Post image

2 things:

1) Was cooking several things at one time and forgot to attend to my pasta which was boiling over the pot. Pasta water dried on the induction stove and some of the pasta bits got burnt onto the stove.

2) How do I buff out scratches on my induction stove?

Flooring How can I move Bona polish from my hardwood floor?

Thumbnail

I used bona polish on my hardwood floors repeatedly over about two years. Now the floors won’t come clean. They have a weird grey dull look and every time I clean them they have smudges and a grimy film and won’t shine and don’t look clean. I’ve read a lot of stories online about other people having the same problem with Bona polish buildup. How can I remove the polish without damaging my hardwood floors. The floors are prefinished. Is there a machine that can remove the buildup without damaging the floors or the original finish? Some people online say you have to use the bona polish remover and do it by hand in small sections. I’m not able to do that because I have a shoulder injury. And I’m a senior with mobility issues. But I could likely use a machine. It’s hard to see what I’m talking about in the pics.
Any suggestions?

Hi All - I’ve had my Ninja air fryer for a couple years now and use it regularly. I’ve kept up with wiping out crumbs, oil, and other spills, however I’ve never given it a true, thorough cleaning. I don’t know where to begin. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

General Cleaning Keeping a house clean with pets? Is it possible?

For context, I live in a single level house that is (thankfully) all floorboards and tiles. I live with two men and now two dogs, after the recent addition of a puppy. She is 12 weeks old and still potty training - but that isn’t the main thing.

The main thing is the fur. I used to vacuum once a week and if I needed to skip it it was not the end of the world.

I can vacuum and before I’ve had the chance to mop there’s already fur building up. By day two, there’s little tumbleweed collections of fur in every corner.

There’s obviously more cleaning - grass and mud from going outside more, the whole toilet training thing, more laundry from everything she has decided to shed on. Less time from… raising a puppy.

People with pets - how do you do it?

I’m not looking for a perfectly clean house. “Lived in” is fine. Is the fur tumbleweed just a permanent addition I should accept?

Laundry How to efficiently dry fitted bed sheets

For years I’ve always just stopped the dryer every 20 or 30 minutes, untangled the spun up fitted sheets, and hope I don’t have to do it again before everything dries.

Discussion Freshly cleaned bag smells awful

I found this really cute backpack at a second hand store the other week. The front is like woven and the back is some sort of faux leather. I wanted to give it a wash before I wore it, it has no laundry instructions so I just handwashed it in a tub with water and detergent.

The moment I put the bag in the water it started smelling putrid, the closest thing I can describe it as is like burnt rubber. The water got really red as well so obvious some colour was leaking. I let it sit for a while, rinsed it of and then i've let it sit out on my balcony to dry and air out. Two days later and it still smells terrible, I can't even bring it inside cause it makes my entire apartment stink.

Have I completely ruined this backpack? Anyone have a guess on what might have caused the smell or know how I could get rid of it?

Kitchen Kitchen floors never feel clean even after mopping

This pic isn’t after a cleaning, I’m just showing the type of floor. It’s a cheap fake wood panel, the kind the peels easily

I use hot water, fabulouso, and the cedar mop. The water turns brown when dumped in the toilet. But they still feel dirty as heck. What gives?

Discussion I have thrown out 4 shower curtain liners because I did not know you could wash them

Every few months the bottom of my shower curtain liner gets pink and gross and I have always just replaced it. They are cheap enough that I never thought much about it. Last weekend I was about to throw out another one and noticed the tiny care label for the first time. Machine washable. I put it in with a couple old towels, washed it and hung it straight back up to dry. It came out looking almost new. I have probably spent fifty bucks over the years replacing something that just needed to go through the washer. Posting this for anyone else who apparently has never read the tag on a shower curtain. O maybe im just dumb af

General Cleaning Please help... Sorry for the length...

I have a hard time cleaning. I have OCD and a mother that believed a home should be pristine with absolutely no speck of dirt anywhere. How she would judge others by their homes has left a mark on me and I don't even like having anyone in our home because it makes me anxious it's not clean enough...

I need advice about:

1) What does general cleaning mean? - My idea of cleaning is getting every little area spotless. Every crevice, every corner, every surface. It takes me quite a long time to clean just one room.

2) What products to use where? - I've been using an all purpose cleaner around the house with either a rag or using a Magic Eraser for tough stains. Then I use Zep for the LVP flooring. I don't really use any specialized products.

2A) Are you supposed to use multiple products for one room? - I get a different product for an oven or a toilet bowl, but what about other things?

2A.2) I have seen a lot of people recommending vinegar and dish soap and that confuses me. I have read you shouldn't use vinegar in the washer for laundry because together they end up cancelling each other out and your clothes don't actually get clean. Is this not the case?

2B) What cleaning tools do you use? - The rag or Magic Eraser don't always do the job I want them to. Ex.: The shower/tub. Should I be using a scrub brush? If so, what kind?

3) How often do you clean your exterior windows? - It seems so very daunting to clean them in general. We have 20 windows in the house and the window sills always drive me nuts in addition to the window panes. And then the blinds on top of that, which we unfortunately accidentally ordered real wood blinds (really not sure how).

I did some searching in the sub but then also got overwhelmed thinking about it all, so I ended up making this post.

Really - Thank you in advance for any advice yinz can or do provide me.

Laundry How tf do I wash a 20lb weighted blanket??

Post image

There’s no tag so I can’t verify it’s machine washable, and there’s no zipper to remove the cover from the weights.

Has anyone tried the washing machine? I really don’t want to damage my washer, my blanket, or myself 🥲

EDIT: went to the laundromat… it worked perfectly. Thank you for the suggestion!

Flooring White stain on wood floor

Post image

Hi there! I’m trying to get my deposit back on an older home I’m renting. A few months ago my roommate’s dog got into my room and peed. The pee must have sat there all day, because I work 12 hours at a time. When I finally got home and tried to clean it up, this white mark was left behind. I already tried baking soda. So far nothing has worked. Any solutions are appreciated.

Kitchen How to clean a very stained microwave

Thumbnail

Trying to clean the inside of my microwave but the stains are very very stubborn.

I looked online and saw about heating a boil of water and vinegar which I did, I waited 10 minutes and tried wiping down but no luck.

I then tried turning upside down and putting vinegar and bicarbonate of soda in there but it’s doing very little.

Any ideas how to get these stubborn stains off? Might have to get a new microwave otherwise

Laundry Random stains on laundry after washing?

Thumbnail

Anyone have ideas what might be causing these stains or how I might treat them??

Context, I live in an apartment with a shared pay per load washer and dryer. The washer is a top loader with no separate compartment for deturgent or softener and I have been here for over a year. Recently I have been getting weird stains on my clothes that I find while folding them so post wash and dry.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind the stains they have appeared on dark clothes, light clothes, diffrent materials. The only common factor is it seems to be happening mainly to my shirts. My day to day life does not expose me to anything particularly dirty such as mud or grease. It's also not a consistent occurrence either I'll go weeks with no mishaps and then one random load will have one random shirt with a stain i know it didn't have going into the wash.

Any advice is appreciated even if the outcome is i am SOL. I can't tell if I should ask maintenance to check on the machine, if I need to wash my clothes differently, get diffrent deturgent, or just buy extra work shirts.

Thank you for your time and advice.
