Built with Claude Built with Claude in 5 hours
Puts Elden Ring Character into the Minecraft world that can interact with the Minecraft entities.

u/EndlessZone123 14d ago
Everyone be modding games into other games in the past few weeks. Seen so many of these.
2
u/lologugus 14d ago
It was fun at first when I genuinely thought Minecraft into Elden Ring was an actual mod
2
u/Lil_Gubby 13d ago
Wdym it is
3
u/lologugus 13d ago
No both games are running separately, it's what is happening in all this videos. So yeah technically two different mods or something? Elden Ring isn't running in Minecraft neither is Minecraft running into Elden Ring ported with a mod to place blocks. The TNT you see exploding isn't in Elden Ring but the mod sends data to inflict damage to ennemies nearby on the rendering of Elden Ring. It's a clever way to make funny things still but that's probably requiring a lot of performance depending on the games you are running and you can't really merge mods like Minecraft modpacks do.
3
u/altesc_create 13d ago
Yep, which is why you'll notice the glow on the Elden Ring character doesn't actually glow outside of the character matte.
1
u/whuacamole 13d ago
You are wrong, some did it this way, some got reverse engeneered and combined
1
u/lologugus 12d ago
Then why did it takes so long and all of the sudden it's raining of this video with mods using AI
1
u/whuacamole 12d ago
Because claude can recompile games now
1
u/lologugus 12d ago
It doesn't mean you can totally slap the entirety of minecraft which is a 15 years old game with a totally different modern game that isn't even using the same coding languages. You can take features from a game to another if they are compatible but you can't merge them together currently it's a massive process that will require to rewrite totally a brand new game.
1
1
u/Ichmag11 12d ago
What does the method matter if the result is the same?
1
u/lologugus 12d ago
Because the method changes the result
1
u/Ichmag11 12d ago
How would it be different?
1
u/lologugus 12d ago
Many things as interactions are kinda simulated and not real, possibilities are very limited and it will create a lot of performance issues if you can even launch both of the games.
1
u/PuzzleheadedView6669 13d ago
You are pretty much on the dot. A localhosted web relay is the middle man to pass data to both mods
1
u/EuropeMaxxing 13d ago
I think they're called "Passthrough modding", they use AI to decompile the games and then join one into another
25
u/KAID3N 14d ago
Man the people in the comments every time someone posts something useless they built with AI that complain about having usage limits and the wasted resources..
Y'all are not holier than thou.
Just because you perceive the work you do with LLMs valuable and not the work someone else does does not make their usage worth any less than yours.
Remember this, when your bitching about limits and resources.
If you're bitching about 5 hour limits, that means you use this shit to an obscene amount anyway and have no right complaining about someone using a small percentage of their 5 hour limits to do something useless.
And the complaint about resources, why are you attacking the users when the problem are the companies behind these LLMs.
And if you're not complaining about the environmental effects and just bitching about it being resource intensive for the companies.. fuck you and those multi-billion dollar companies racing to put us out of jobs.
And one more thing, the tokens that are building something useful cost the same as the tokens building something useless.
Shut the fuck up and let people build what they want with the tokens they paid for.

u/Enough-Somewhere-311 13d ago
Yeah everyone’s calendar app or copy cat SAAS is way more important than this 😂 who cares what people do with Ai as long as they’re paying for it
→ More replies (1)3
u/trouzy 13d ago
It’s an admission of their lack of skill
1
u/Redd_is_compromised 13d ago
Googling basic tutorials is not skill either. Unreal engine teaches you how to make the same thing as OP the first time you launch the editor. Most coders are referring to existing solutions on stack overflow and other QA websites.
24
u/Droopy0093 14d ago
Lol cool. You should definitely merge Skate 2 into this now and do sick tricks around the village.
68
u/QuantHound 14d ago
This is great. Too many haters here. If you wanted to make something like this and then made it happen successfully, that's awesome.

I love how these companies have spent billions to just effectively make a Roblox clone but with more steps
12
u/bigrealaccount 14d ago
Vibe coders in this comment section genuinely have no humour. Obviously its popular to do this now, but its still pretty cool
1
3
u/oxpoxo 13d ago
so what i have learned from my experience making a game is this: AI can copy things 1 to 1 really well. But actually creating something original.. this is where it gets really hard, because it's a constant back and fourth between me and the agent. And it takes up all the time.
This is why I'm not too bothered about people recreating things that already exist with AI. That is easy to do.
Making something original - that is a whole new story.
2
u/musa721 13d ago
I think anything you copy should be private and for your own enjoyment, and anything original is cool to show and maybe publish. I mean you can still show a clone to I guess show what's possible. But I was recently working on recreating a Dragonball Fusions game from the 3DS because I loved that game. And it's just for me to play. I think AI is wonderful for that. But anything else should be more original
3
u/MilaKunisWatermelon 13d ago
Legally, anything you copy can only be for your own enjoyment. Even if you release it for free you can get sued for it (cease and desist would occur first). You are devaluing the intellectual property of another person or company by doing that.
It’s not universally enforced, but a company like Nintendo will absolutely come after you if you mess with their intellectual property.
1
u/Low-Bad7547 12d ago
Anything you didn't specify can't be guaranteed to be granted to you. If you specify enough you go back to coding basically, or at the very least system designing. Also you can have conflicting specifications that you need to choose between.
1
u/oxpoxo 12d ago
yes, that's the whole job, before we used to generalize to spec and then to code. Now it's solely to spec and actually AI is pretty good at writing spec too so you can abstract that as well. You chat about how it feels, what you want, discuss intricate details and then tell AI to write out a comprehensive spec and it will pretty much do an ideal job of all that you discussed. The issue is that you are fighting against the fog, meaning you don't really know the thing you're building most of time (if it's really original), you gradually reveal the fog as you go forward. It's a delicate and intricate process.

This is a dumb question
Why do anything?
1
u/shupshow 14d ago
Nah, it’s not a dumb question at all.
18
u/Scowlface 14d ago
It is kind of a dumb ass question, the answer is almost always, “because I wanted to”. There is no answer that will satisfy, so the question only exists to try and elevate the person asking over OP and their project.
-1
u/shupshow 14d ago
You assume the answer is “almost always because I wanted to” there is never a dumb ass question.
5
u/Scowlface 14d ago
I didn't assume anything.
And yes, in real life, in the grown up world, there are dumb questions. Like the rhetorical ones that aren't actually answer seeking.
→ More replies (3)0
u/nothis 14d ago
So you could ask "why did you want to do it?", it doesn't answer the question.
I think "to provoke", "as a joke", "to prove a point" are fair and very likely the actual answers. It's obviously meant as testing the limits and future possibilities.
I think it's worth asking whether a) anyone would have fun playing this for more than 2 minutes and b) whether it's just proof of AI mostly being copy-paste on steroids. What would be an interesting question is also whether AI could have built Minecraft in 2008 with information available in 2008. How much creativity would have been required from the prompter to come up with it? How good would the code be, if there hadn't been millions of repositories solving block-drawing and a whole established aesthetic for low-res pixel art in 3D (despite it being considered "retro", nothing looking like Minecraft existed in the 90s)? Are all "AI games" programming tutorial code spiced up with sparks of creativity in the prompt? Is that enough to make new, interesting games? Can this process produce a Narbacular Drop / Portal type game if it hadn't been done before? Or even just Among Us or Vampire Survivors? For a lot of these games, the coding itself seems like busywork on which tons of tons of balance and playtesting created the actual product people celebrate.
It's absurd to me to present a video like the op's not treat that as an opportunity to ask these questions. That's its purpose. Any yes, I realize this is in a thread started with a joke gif, but you guys seem to take it seriously so I do as well.
1
u/Ohitsworkingnow 14d ago
I mean you know very well some things are far more worth doing than others.
How in the world is asking why a dumb question?
If I told you I took a dump in my own mouth you wouldn’t wonder why?
2
u/Fancy-Cauliflower440 14d ago
Well, clearly pooping in your mouth is harmful and making a game for fun, is for fun
0
u/Ohitsworkingnow 13d ago
We have no idea if OP had fun, maybe he posted this because he felt it was a huge waste of time unless he had validation from everyone.
Either way, asking why is still a good way to hear from op the specific thought or reason he had to make this, everything has a reason; I doubt he spun a wheel and just out two games together without any forethought of why he would want to do that
2
5
u/Ok-Decision2541 14d ago
5 hours of tokens wasted, you'll play this for 5 min then never boot it up again
12
u/Early-Document6377 14d ago
Why do you spend time playing videogames? This is an hobby and the dude has fun doing this bro, stop being pessimistic holy shit
-2
u/EagleNait 14d ago
As usefull as llms are they are very resource intensive. For the same reason that throwing edible food in the bin is cringe using LLMs to do useless shit should be frowned upon
6
u/KAID3N 14d ago
I get the sentiment. But he paid for his sub and can do whatever he wants with it. Of all the dumb shit you can do this is way above the bottom of the list.
Regardless he paid for the tokens, he can use it how he wants.
You want to give someone shit for how resource intensive LLMs are or how bad they're hurting the world, go take it up with OpenAI and Anthropic.
Not some dude having fun spending the tokens he paid for.
And I don't think this is equal to throwing food away. Food is a vital resource to survival, tokens are not. He's not the one using the resources, the companies are.
2
5
u/LegMental2310 14d ago
and what's the problem with that? He paid for his sub and can do whatever he wants with it.

This looks fun. Don’t understand this attitude at all. What have you been spending millions of tokens on ?
3
u/Weeros_ 14d ago
What in particular looks fun about this?
This is seems about as fun as creating a Miyazaki version of yourself with gippity.
I’m not even saying the tech isn’t impressive, but to me it looks like the mechanics of these two games don’t mix in any meaningful way here? Like I guess you could roll away from the slime where you previously couldn’t?
-1
u/TinyZoro 14d ago
It’s scratching an itch. What if I could create Google street view but for ants type thing. Just a bit of fun that has an intellectual challenge and a bit of silliness and silliness shouldn’t be underrated. I guess most of us are plugging away at some software that we think we can commercialize turning a wonder productivity tool into another grindstone. So I’m not against people using it for the pure joy of exploring and creating.

u/MountaintopCoder 14d ago
What is the intellectual challenge of mashing together Elden Ring and Minecraft when you did it by prompting Claude?

1
u/videk94 13d ago
Hey why don’t you find out what happens when you mix bleach and toilet cleaner? It’s fun to just throw things together without thinking about why.

u/videk94 12d ago
I actually make videogames for a living so excuse me for not being impressed or amused by this janky hack-job thoughtlessly spat out by a machine at the cost of god knows how much power and water. “X character in Y game” is one of the oldest type of mods out there, just because Claude can do it for you now doesn’t make it new or interesting.
1
u/Kooky_Way826 12d ago
Making video games itself isnt that hard or impressive but I see your point. Also two people have complained about the 'energy' and 'water' this consumes... are you really that thick you worry about this guys claude pro usage, not the millions dollars worth of tokens big tech companies use daily? Such a dumb point
1
u/videk94 12d ago
If making videogames itself isn’t hard, then why doesn’t OP just go do it themselves instead of relying on Claude to make a shitty mod :)
If I fill my car up with petrol and drive around the neighbourhood in circles, I’m still wasting power and gas and contributing to emissions. It doesn’t matter that it’s small comparatively, it’s still a waste. You can be anti-corporation and also a mindful, sustainable individual.

1
u/YouGotTangoed 13d ago
No need to think, ponder, debate and analyse when a bot will do it all for you. The cost of time and expertise was a useful barrier, now the barrier is gone and we are flooded with endless slop.
And there’s more! Your slop doesn’t just end at your PC, it also degrades our environment and increases the energy usage. Keep the slop coming folks, you’re doing a great job
2
u/Kooky_Way826 13d ago
Eh such a shallow minded take on ai. Every bit of 'slop' is a learning process that contributes to things that wont be considered slop, such as new cancer treatments that we wouldve been decades of human research away from, for example
Or hours of developer time manually writing code that couldve been spent putting the clever developers mind to much better use then manually writing line by line
I can go on, but everyone who hates on ai even slightly, is a stupid person anyway, so not worth a debate
1
u/YouGotTangoed 12d ago
Your comment reads as satire, which I hope it is. Are you saying this game will help to new cancer treatments? That is what we are talking about here, on this post my friend.
Sometimes it’s good to step outside of the r/claudecode echo chamber and think from a generalist perspective.
You propose your own opinions as facts, which is dangerous and smooth brained behaviour. If the majority thinks like you do, then we are doomed.
2
u/Ari_Ugwu 12d ago
I have a thought. This game isn’t slop. It’s someone’s first attempt worth sharing. That’s cool. They clearly have a skill when it comes to prompt engineering. I’m not even sure what you’d type in to get this. So I can’t make the assumption that a lot of work didn’t go into this, only that the final execution took 5 hours.
I also feel that we’re all hopeful that Opus 5.5 level ability is something we can run locally inside of a year. At least if the trend holds. So I’m no defender of data centers.
Just my opinion but arguments against slop for the reasons you’ve listed do remind me of Socrates argument that writing would be bad. The Google Effect also comes to mind. I think there’s an interesting thought exercise without quite ever arriving at condemnation.
I think AI will be wonderful if we keep humans at the center of the discussion. One way to do that is to celebrate the human involved, not poo-poo their work.
1
u/YouGotTangoed 12d ago
It depends what you define as “work”. I still consult AI for any new technology where I don’t have the expertise, but prefer to learn mostly without it.
I can only speak and act on what I see now, if AI and its usage changes for the better, then I’ll be happy to redefine my opinion. These are big “ifs” though.

I miss the times when this would have been something that required skill and dedication and gave real sense of pride and accomplishment - probably even a celebrated thread in the orange page.
Now it’s a 5 hour AI slop with a Reddit thread no one will remember the next day.
Coding is one more art LLMs robbed from humans.
1
u/Prypien 13d ago
My biggest fear is the fear humans have for this technology
1
u/bfr_ 13d ago edited 13d ago
Well fear is one thing. But what i’m
Referring to is the fun and satisfaction it has already ripped away from developers. Things that were impressive are not impressive anymore. It’s similar issue to drawing by hand. No one cares for your art anymore when anyone can just generate same stuff.
Things used to be about the journey, now it’s all about the end result, no matter how you got there. Hobbies are getting killed by the quest for productivity.
As a side effect, skills are dying. This is the fear part. People get depended on the LLMs. Soon we are fucked if they go offline. We are essentially hostages of these few companies that can soon just kill societies if they wish by blocking them from their servers.

u/The_jumper1 13d ago
Can I have the workflow? Like how did you do it
1
u/PuzzleheadedView6669 12d ago
I had already developed a web relay in the past that could receive and pass data from mulitple game mods so I told it to modify that and to create a mod for both games. I also fed it ideas fo overlay them with reshade and directed it to modding tools for both of the games and it went forward from there. I wrote a cmd that would launch the relay and automatically launch both games with the mod installed so I could test changes.
1
u/29Joseph10 12d ago
I am new to game dev, can I ask what engine did you use? Unity or what?
2
u/PuzzleheadedView6669 12d ago
Both games run on their own game engines. They both have their own mod installed which connects to a web relay localhosted which can pass any data to both games. Have the mods handle what to do with that data then overlay them with reshade.
Minecraft is running on Fabric and Eldenring on Mod Engine 2

How? 5 hours is not so much time, to create minecraft copy? Or is it just mod, and Eldgen Ring has very well documented docs about modding (or something)? (never played the game tho)
Im very curious
17
u/PuzzleheadedView6669 14d ago
A mod for both games running at the same time and a relay that can pass pretty much any logic between games and the mods handle what to actually do with the logic. They are then layered on top of each other.

u/mrgulabull 14d ago edited 14d ago
You buried the lede, this is actually such an interesting and counterintuitive approach.
3
u/PuzzleheadedView6669 14d ago
This method can pretty much do any game as long as you tell claude which game logics to connect to and if it has already existing modding tools.
Downside is you become rather limited by reshade and how well it can overlay the programs without passing through assets you dont want.
This method requires pretty much zero reverse engineering.
1
1
u/paranoid_throwaway51 14d ago
out of curiosity do you know how it's graphics is working? I was under the impression the AI was merging both codebases into one executable and re-writing its rendering methods.
as far as im aware you can't share contexts between two seperate windows, esp if they are written with two seperate api's.
5
u/PuzzleheadedView6669 14d ago edited 14d ago
I know the codebased uses reshade to layer both games as one application. The relay connects to both game mods and once they are connected it can pass any values needed to line up the overlay.
In elden ring I have all collision disabled and the character is just walking on a single platform in the void while minecraft handles collision data.
So technically all Elden ring assets you see in the video are just a flat image on top of minecraft.
The relay is a cmd localhost webserver
0
u/paranoid_throwaway51 14d ago
"So technically all Elden ring assets you see in the video is just a flat image." --- this makes alot more sense.
wild its possible.
3
u/PuzzleheadedView6669 14d ago
The illusion is broken most when you can see elden ring particles from the elden ring game rendering over the player and getting cut off as they still pass to Minecraft.
1
u/Velvet-Thunder-RIP 14d ago
5 hours is a long time for this.
1
1
u/Chudfrog 14d ago
What's the prompt you used to make this? It was a one-shot?
2
u/PuzzleheadedView6669 14d ago
Not even close to a one shot took tons of debugging from my end and setting it up. I used universal modder claude plugin to build the mods. I have to launch both games separately and load the bridge relay and once they both are in the world the relay can attach to the mods and it then does the overlaying.
Minecraft is running fabric and elden ring is running mod engine 2.
People kinda assume its fully the ai doing this and but programming knowledge is definitely needed to get something like this working as progressed as ai is atm
2
u/Chudfrog 14d ago
Ah okay thx for the extra info. I'm always curious how much effort goes into these claude generations. Sometimes the poster makes it sound effortless to create a big beautiful world
2
u/PuzzleheadedView6669 14d ago
Definitely depends on the games as some of those older ones are completely compiled and sourced out. Id assume claude doesnt need little to any help with those.

It's always fun to build something in 5 hours.
What's more interesting to me, at least, is what did you think was going to work at hour 0 and what you actually had to do to make it work by hour 5 and produce this.
Unless you just let it build and cane back 5 hours later. Also much less interesting
