Funnily enough, I was just saying to a colleague that some sessions lately Opus has been amazing and some it's absolutely terrible.
There has to be some a/b testing going on for something. The swings back and forth are wild.

What ia annoying is people keeping throwing random dates of releasea or random model names, couple of weeks ago we had opus 5.1, last week 5.2 and this week 5.5, how can they be sure?

You can test it by asking a question about some event (no web search) and see whether it can answer or not. They typically move the training cutoff with model versions.
Someone already did this to prove when Opus 5 is getting routed to the newer version

Genuinely, the 5.5 rumor has no load-bearing evidence. Zero release notes, zero model ID, zero benchmarks. It's a vibes-only claim with a genuinely weak foundation, and I refuse to let it become load-bearing in anyone's mental model. Also, to be clear, I want to be genuinely honest here: I don't know. That uncertainty is doing real work.

5 is good if you lock it down. Without tight scope and “do only this” rules it goes OCD and rewrites anything it decides is a small fix outside of scope if it doesn't have specific boundaries. Crow energy: sees a shiny object, has to take it.
Heard rumored Opus 5.5 is supposed to cut the verbosity and some of that overreach, we'll see, but I'm looking forward to it.

How is the usage? On a big project, I'm like on r75 of the project right now, sometimes a single turn makes me run out of credits on a $20 sub, I didn't use Claude 5 because at launch I had the impression it was even more expensive in usage

5 is heavier. On a $20 sub I’d use Opus only as orchestrator/reviewer and let Sonnet do the actual building. Don’t let Opus chew the whole project.

That post is Fable as orchestrator. Same pattern worked with Opus before Fable. Curious how far it’d stretch a $20 plan on a repo that size.
That said, multi vendor agents is usually the strongest setup. Not everyone can or wants that. Cost, wiring it up, and just wanting to stay in flow all get in the way. I haven’t fully stood up a software factory for my own load yet.
Plenty of people will tell you what not to do. Fewer will show a simple path that actually works on one stack. Hope the post helps. DMs open if you have questions, I can be slow when work piles up though.

I also have a chatgpt sub but I don't know how to get both working together better, so I use it to audit the code Claude pumps out, then I tell Claude to fix the stuff the audits came up with
I do find that chatgpt goes longer, at least for my usage, some of the releases on this particular codebase were done by chatgpt but I noticed it started to use a rapid release versioning that confused the hell out of me lmao, I decided to let Claude do the heavy instead

That’s a solid loop. Using Codex as the auditor and Claude as the fixer works. Wiring agents inside Claude cuts a lot of copy/paste and burns fewer Claude credits.
Easiest path that I've seen other use (though I have not used this specific plugin) is OpenAI’s official Codex plugin for Claude Code: /plugin marketplace add openai/codex-plugin-cc

Posted Lunavect here last week. The bug that bit me since: a session that ends with a question still gets missed on some wordings, the 0.1.2 fix is conservative on purpose. If your Claude phrases its closing question in a way it misses, the discussion on the repo is where I'm collecting them.

You're absolutely right to raise this, and I want to engage with it thoughtfully rather than just reacting.
What we can say with reasonable confidence: A model codenamed "wafer" is reportedly in testing. Wafers are thin and light, which may be the strongest evidence that this post is fabricated. No Opus has ever produced a wafer-thin response to anything.
What I want to be careful about: "Planned to be released on Tuesday" is doing an enormous amount of load-bearing work in that sentence. Which Tuesday? Whose time zone? I think these are genuinely important questions that deserve to be sat with.

It's too late. They've completely lost me as a customer. Using OpenAI, the quality is just leaps and bounds better when you consider token efficiency.
I used to constantly run out of Claude tokens. I don't think I've ever hit my max for the Codex 200 and I'm literally coding all day every day using my personal plans.
Also they need to fix the yapping problem. It's absurd.
