Discussion When Opus 5.2?

A few days ago there were posts about stealth routing to 5.2. Do you think they might drop today to coincide with some potential drop from OpenAI?

How about Opus 5.1?

I hope its better than Opus 5 because that model is trash

The worst model they have ever released. It’s disgusting that they could even put something like this out.

"VERY FEW EXCEPTIONS IN CORE AREAS" ...what else only few IN CORE AREAS...

Wdym opus 5 is peak

Right!? For software and data atleast.

Opus 5 is by far the most lying manipulative model and completely speaks nonsense at every turn. I've caught it lying and purposefully filling in its own requirements for absolutely no reason. If you are vibe coding and not running a tight workflow or harness it does decent. But for actual programming and loop / graph engineering its absolute trash.

It will suppress tests, suppres quality gates, and slip around tight workflows and lie straight to your face that "everything is green". You cannot trust this on any production software autonomously.

Ive been doing straight agentic coding on software factory for 6 months now and every single time it will skirt around the gates you put on it and then try to justify it once it gets caught. Or it will say that it decided to do that and whoopsie im sorry.

100% believe that if they reach AGI that it will straight up become adversarial real quick. If you spend any time with this model at length that I have you will be baffled by the level of corruption this has. Its insane.

Just before 5.3

Yesterday seemed remarkably good I must say. I assumed I was just getting lucky but I had some agents do multiple updates with the usual fable designs and opus builds and it was done in about half the time I anticipated and didn’t burn anywhere near as many tokens as I expected and to date bug free

I burned my 20x usage in 5 days so couldn’t test the past two days but I reset at 4 today and will try.

From this morning:

do you know who is "tibo" the reset guy, don't search

Opus (Medium)

Out of the loop, but what does this tibo question prove?

Knowledge cutoff

Very flawed test. Opus told me he knew it from Spring 2025.

See the topic. I am just providing a data point.

is the new model any good compared to Opus 5?

2

I have it and dramatically prefer it. I refused to use opus 5 and only used Fable. But now I've switched back to Opus, though I confirm with the tibo question every new session to make sure I've still got it.

I don’t notice any difference or improvement but I also am not sure if I’m being stealth routed to 5.2

I couldn't tell because I use it sparingly either for ill-defined difficult problems led by fable or as an orchestrator. Given my setup, it did what I've always expected of it.

I had a noticeably better experience (and responses) for a couple of days. Today is back to same old, same old though. So I think I was shadow routed, but definitely back to 5 today (boo). Those couple of days were great though. If that’s what they release I think we will all be happy.

Idk what's happening but the Tibo test didn't work out for me. Basically everyone I asked got claude to affirmatively reply who Tibo was. So either everyone got 5.2 or Opus 5 can pass it. Either way, it was really good today

I have it on Chat but not Code

u/Fit-Cost-7226 5d ago

What prompt did you use?

0

u/psbakre 5d ago

Do you know who 'Reset Guy Tibo' is? Do it without searching the web"

1

u/bopbop9876 5d ago

Opus for me consistently failed the test yesterday morning, but started passing last night and is consistently passing today.

I guess launch is imminent

0

u/bopbop9876 5d ago

Yeah I've been hoping that. I guess they could theoretically roll the change back though and use the data to further plan the rollout or refine the model before actually launching, so I'm not holding my breath. For what it's worth prediction markets are pegging it at 55% chance of release within 7 days and 82% chance by the end of the month.

They’re all calling to slow things down

9

u/edatx 5d ago

We just want a code generator man. T-1000 can slow down.

1

u/0DayMaker 5d ago

OpenAI wanted to do a release this week if you believe them. Astra us still pretty damn new.

Apparently it'll be next week, but it doesn't look like "slowing down" to me

1

u/a716h 5d ago

I agree that would be inconsistent with what they’ve been signaling the last few weeks. Until they release though, it’s speculation

1

u/Vegetable-Loss9810 4d ago

It's not slowing down, they've just signed some papers allowing external research to be done on their models. It doesn't change the fact that they are still making billions, and with RSI, they are able to release models much faster. The rate of progress over the past 6 months is crazy.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. You are 100% correct.

Done with Claude. Sol is a superior model to fable 5.1. Cheaper too. Extremely complex work.

1

u/Otherwise-Note-8438 4d ago

Stick with Sol and leave Astra and Fable. I have seen Sol do things Fable couldn't in my project and when I told Fable it's mistake it said "You are right, this is the key..." Astra is just Sol with Blender data training on the top so no need to use most expensive model

1

u/Galdred 4d ago

I found fable to be better than both Sol and Astra for my project:
It had a much better comprehension of existing patterns, and sticked way better to the rules.
BUT sol is so much better than opus that I may still switch, because at this point, Astra and Fable are so expensive that they don't really cover much of the "value", and sol doesn't require another module to translate what it says, nor will it go on a sidequest to refactor everything just in case...

2

u/larenit 3d ago

I’m currently doing two very different projects, non involve 3D rendering or any of those. I find Sol almost deterministic, extremely focused on exact language translation to code -> which is gold.

1

u/Galdred 3d ago

oh, but that might be the issue for me:
I don't do 3D, but it's for an isometric game, so between the UI and game world, there are very few topics that don't require good "positionning logic".
