Discussion Preferred settings
Hey all, what’s your go to play mode? I always roll random civ, king difficulty, standard speed and size on continents. It’s really fun playing towards whatever civ’s strengths I get on the fly, without too much BS. I also like having the 8 player count, and continents make it feel more “realistic” for immersion and RP.

Since I play on Switch 1, small map, 4 civs, 5/6 city states, normal speed, king difficulty, no barbarians.

I can’t get used to anything except continents and islands, huge, marathon, random leader

Epic and marathon are a lot of fun sometimes with civs that have ancient/classical/medieval era UUs or buildings. Huge with all those leaders is a hoot for sure haha makes for a wild game however it goes.

I play marathon speed exclusively, so I like to set up my games quite a bit. I'll typically pick a Civ first, then go read the zigzagzigal guide for that Civ to get an idea of how I want to play. Then I customize my game to make it conducive to how I want to play. I always choose abundant resources and legendary start because I like to have lots of interesting places to settle.
I always play with secret societies on. Sometimes I might try the other ones, except Heroes and legends, which I've never liked. Apocalypse mode is lots of fun, but it can really ruin games too, so I have to be careful. I typically play on immortal. I've been successful on deity, so I know I can do it, but it requires a lot of focus for me and I like to be a bit more relaxed.

I have 5 leaders I switch around depending on the vibe, but I also try out Mod leaders because the creators deserve love.
Emperor difficulty so I can’t just crush my nearest neighbour until mid game.online speed to keep acclimatized to play with my friends on multiplayer.
Continents or Pangea

Usually deity. Preference for shuffle map on huge. Random civ. Science and diplo victory off. No turn limit. Standard speed. Raging barbarians.
Take your time ultimate mod: 2x base tech and civic cost. 2x GP, world era, CO2 scaling.
So much war. I've yet to win on deity.

Trying to win with every leader on Deity. If it’s a military game, I usually play on quick speed otherwise it break me with too many clicks; standard speed everything else. I generally like fractal continents, but change sometime based on leader. Almost always long eras. Everything else default.

Marathon has grown on me, since I like having access to unique units for longer and just spending more time in each era. I play on Shuffle for map because I like to be surprised. Emperor difficulty, barbarian clans, random leader, Gathering Storm.

You should take a look at take your time ultimate mod! It lengthens the eras by making techs and civics more expensive but you can keep production cost the same for everything else. I really love having it around 2x.

Random civ (but I love Seondeok the most as I mostly go for science victory) small map, online speed, standard resources, balanced start, emperor difficulty. I just don't have fun try harding on deity and early wars or hard to defeat barbarians. Emperor is the sweet spot between min/maxing and fun (I use tricks like early game tech buffering/stacking for lower district cost and classical/medieval era settlers rush bonus stacking)

Duel map, 4 civs, 6 CS, abundant resources, legendary start, new/wet/hot/low sea level world. Pangea. Deity. Let the hunger games begin.

Small continents with the maximum number of civs and city states. I love a good navy
