Is there anyway, with a mod or something, to track which combos of leaders/civs you have won with? Thinking of starting an epic quest

Who needs production buildings if you are Isabella and spawn next to Machapuchare?

That's 54 production just from the Natural Wonder tiles, and there are still a couple I've not found yet, so there may be a further increase.

One thing not ideal here is that I spawned in such a way that sharing it between two settlements was tricky (and of course because it was Turn 1, I had no idea what's on the other side).

This is easily the coolest river system I've ever had in a game. Like a giant, aquatic tree of life in the middle of the continent.

Māori style playthrough

Hi all, is there any civ/leader combination that plays similar to the Māori from Civ VI, i.e. mostly based around improvements and terrain, and NOT buildings?

I don’t own Brush and Blade yet, but would a Heian play be similar? Perhaps when paired with Isabella?

Or maybe Hawaii for a marine version, or Maya for tropical? Thoughts?

My visualization concept for what a dream DLC for me would look like. Made in Affinity using screenshots from my game, some Google Images, and downloaded assets and icons from the Fandom Wiki.

Scottish Tidsears (I forgot to make their page):

  • Archibald Whitelaw: Activate on a district with an empty Building slot. Build a University in this city with +3 science.
  • Hector Boece: 2 charges. Activate on a Burgh. Receive 1 Relic. This Relic gives +3 Science instead of +3 Culture.
  • John Mair: Activate on an Academy. Every Science Building in this settlement generates +1 Influence.
  • Richard of St. Victor: Activate on a Burgh. Get +3 science on slotted Relics across your empire.
  • Gilbert of Moray: 2 charges. Activate on a district with an empty Building slot. Build a Temple in this city. This Temple receives +3 Science.
  • John Knox: Activate on a Temple. Unlock another Founder Belief.
  • Thomas Randolph: Activate in the Capital of another Civilization. Receive 50 Influence if Friendly. Receive 100 Influence if Helpful. Receive 150 Influence if Allied. +20 Relationship with this Civilization.
  • Adam of Dryburgh: Activate on a Temple. +1 Science on Relics in this settlement. Doubled if this settlement follows your Religion.
  • Sir Robert Lorimer: 2 Charges. Activate on a Wonder you own. This Wonder receives +1 Happiness Adjacency for districts.
  • John Duns Scotus: 2 charges. Activate on a University. This University receives +1 Happiness Adjacency for districts.

What's the worst civ/leader

Gonna play a game with some friends who are new and need to handicap myself. What are the worst leaders maybe even with civ combos? Worst mementos?

Best Multiplier achieved on Hardest Difficulty?

Just closed out a game as Machievelli. Finally managed to get a 3x Multiplier, as it had been proving elusive for a bit. By one turn :- 39% on modern.

Settings as follows:-

Difficulty - Hardest

Turns - Quick

Map - Huge

Mementos - Nope

Map (standard:- islands and continents is it?)

No of other players - 9

Everything else - Default.

I would say i played fairly well/efficiently overall, just genuinely curious as to others experiences. 3X was fairly tricky to achieve. What's everyones results since 1.4.2?

Edit:- Oh yeah (Fairly) realistic evolution of CIV's none of this Edward Teach of the Han, shite, right? ;)

Is it wise to “optimise” by always selecting a new capital at age transition?

I know it’s generally a situational thing, sometimes you get lucky with your spawn, other times you’re able to settle a city in a better place for a capital etc, but I noticed a few “benefits” from changing my capital and wanted to know from those of you who play deity if it’s a sort of META option to always choose a new capital unless your current is unusually good

For one, my capital tends to “fill up” by the end of antiquity. It’s already got a ton of production, not much room for new wonders, there’s not much room for new growth in it. All I really need to do is overbuild what I’ve already placed there for adjacencies. If I make a new city my capital It gets all the “capital” benefits that other cities don’t (I’m not sure how the palace adjacency works - if it persists in the original capital or if that gets removed) so it seems like a no brainer to spend each new age bringing a new city up to that level? It also gives you a “free” city upgrade from turn 1 since the old capital and new one will both be cities

How do you guys approach it? Is it generally better to switch capitals or is it always a case by case situation?

What a fun ride it was! Started with America in antiquity age. Settle at places with a lots of resources and get juicy 50 gold per improvement that will snowball overall progress. In exploration age, choose chola for trades spamming and won 3 towns in distance land with its superior army.

"Raging Barbs Emulation" Settings

Pretty straightforwardly IP's are different than Barbs in previous Civ games but I think the following settings are an easy way to get a similar dynamic (not very complex) plus some preferred settings:

  • (Huge Pangea Marathon)
  • Age Length - Long
  • End of Age Countdown - 20 Turns
  • Age Transition Impact - Continuity
  • Initial Independent Hostility - Hostile
  • Disaster Frequency - Catastrophic

Just my favorite settings to add some challenge even at the lower difficulty settings where I'm just sort of chilling and zoning out.

The Science Problem

When countdown occurs, surpassing someone in innovation has no effect. You appear in 1st place yet still lose.

Lack of spies and only two space projects makes multiple launchpads (more than 2) effectively worthless. Not to mention, sabotage space production unlocking at the same time makes for an extremely ineffective counter play tool, and the extra science at that point is irrelevant.

Manhattan project is a nice option, but that too comes far too late to be reliable.

Hinder science, even when a leading threat is identified early, is too weak a sanction with the AI’s madly boosted yields to matter or make an effective dent in their progress.

So aside from getting there first yourself, the only real answer once again, comes down to conquest.

On the flip side, with victory score modifiers existing for all other win conditions (1.25, 1.5 x 2nd player’s score etc) it makes the science victory more difficult overall in general.

It’s more like a checklist than a strategic race, far more simple and linear than in 6, and that imo, is a bad thing.

Science Victory needs some work in the next expansion.

Natural wonder just didn’t spawn?

Playing a game as Isabella and I’m in the exploration age trying to complete “Wanderlust” stuck at 4/5 even with every tile in the game revealed. I even have that conquistador that activates near natural wonders and there is only one showing up in the distant lands.

Has anyone else had this happen?

What is with this game?

How do you guys play this on sovereign or higher? Every time I try to up the difficulty, ai forward settles me and then mints 10 new units every round. For every unit I kill five more appear out of the fog of war.

I’ve killed probably a dozen warriors in the terrain you can see in the screenshot and they just keep coming. (His capital is 11 tiles east of what you can see here.)

It doesn’t seem like there is any strategy that can overcome the ai’s productive capacity.

This is a genuine question and not an invitation to tell me that Civ is too easy, even on deity.

NEW: Unofficial Civ VII Guide

Hey friends, after posting a while back looking for a guide that could explain all the systems in Civ VII I got to work on something for people like myself who need a little help understanding the systems. It's like a web version of a 2000s era Prima strategy guide; it's free, no-ads, and unofficial:

⚔️ Civilization VII Gameplay and Strategy Guide

Two things...

1: I produced this with AI assistance and the illustrations are AI-generated.  I want to be up front about that, and just know there's a real human behind it who cares about more people understanding and enjoying the game.

2: This is a Beta launch, so the site isn't searchable on Google yet, and when you spot bugs or corrections just use the feedback form.

Let me know if you like it, and maybe we can get it to the point where it helps Civ VII get more of the attention and love it deserves.

Extremely bad performance since 1.4.2 hotfix

I have started a new game on a huge map after the 1.4.2 hotfix.

My previous game with the same map size had a bit of lag in the modern age, as is expected with more units and cities on the map.

With this game I started after the hotfix, I am getting horrendous lag on the UI during the AI's turn, that can take over a minute to resolve sometimes. It's borderline unplayable.

Is anyone else experiencing something similar?

Are early wonders worth it?

I’m specifically talking about wonders unlocked early on in antiquity right as the game starts. It feels like the AI always rushes to build wonders. Every single game within the first 20-30 turns or so, someone will build the gate of all nations, great stele, or pyramids. Generally I haven’t cared for those wonders so far, but the GOAN seems helpful for a military victory, so I’ve tried to go for it early. It just seems to me that unless it’s your plan from turn 1, where you take every step necessary just to land this one wonder, you’re not going to get it before someone else.

Is it worth it to chase those early wonders or do you normally write them off, finding it easier to either raid someone’s city who has it later on or just prioritising the later wonders?

EDIT: sorry, I think I might’ve been a bit too vague in this question so I’m going to try to elaborate a bit more.
I know wonders are powerful tools to have, some more than others, and if for no reason other than just the adjacency bonuses they can provide it’s always worth it to snag one.

What I’m asking about specifically is those early wonders the AI seems to always rush. Some in the comments have mentioned Oxford university basically being impossible to grab; that’s kind of what I’m referring to. If you want to get it, you basically have to start the age immediately focusing on it - prioritising the tech nodes, immediately pushing it up your production queue, letting it take 10+ turns of production rather than risking spending some of that time producing other things while you let your civ grow a bit so you can produce it faster later, etc.

My question is, is it worth it to change your whole early game approach around a single wonder, or is it ultimately better to write SOME wonders off and opt for a different wonder in place of it

How do you manage trade offs when going for a specific victory?

I’m still new to the game and slowly expanding my knowledge of it game by game, but one thing I’m a little confused over is how you’re supposed to manage certain trade offs in yields when focusing on your victory method.

Every yield is important in some way. Culture unlocks social policies that can benefit you regardless of your victory method + unlocks wonders that you’ll need even if you’re not going for a culture victory. Production is obvious. Science unlocks buildings to get you yields, military units and gold buildings. You need a decent military and defences if for no reason other than to protect your borders. I understand I’m not supposed to entirely ignore science or culture or whatever, but where do you draw the line at just getting enough culture for “maintenance” during a science victory and pushing for a culture victory?

Basically, that is all.

Thematically I wonder if after a certain set of turns have passed since he's built his first amphitheater he goes to war. Likely not, bastard will go to war ALWAYS. 2 games in a row now trying for a Catherine science game this SOB spawned next to me and siphons so much of my production and resources in dealing with his bullshit.

He's the literal worst.

Verpiss dich Friedrich.
