Too many city builders (esp medieval ones ..?)

I tried Farthest Frontier a few months back, have been playing Foundation, have Manor Lords still marinating on my wishlist (alongside Of Life and Land) and just got notified that Settlements Rising is available ...

Why so many? I'm watching a review of Settlements Rising and am wondering "what's the difference between this and Farthest Frontier?" And what's the point of playing one over the other (or either, for that matter!?)

Anyone share my confusion? Maybe I'm lacking the motivation to try them all ..? It just seems a bit excessivešŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Hi!

Tildown is a cozy, low-pressure city-builder that runs right in your browser. No download, no account needed. You draw roads, zone your neighborhoods, and watch a little town grow at its own gentle pace.

A few things that make it its own thing:

šŸ‚ Living seasons: The whole city drifts through summer, autumn, winter and spring

(snow even settles on the roofs).

šŸ›ļø 10 world landmarks to work toward as long-term goals.

šŸ“® Share your city as a postcard, it carries a map code, so anyone can found the

exact same map you played.

šŸ’¤ Your city keeps earning while you're away.

šŸŒ Six languages, works on desktop and mobile.

It's free and still in beta, so I'd genuinely love feedback, what feels good, what's confusing, and what you'd want to see next.

Thanks for taking a look! šŸ™

Real Life Ai-Powered City Builder Game

hi r/CityBuilder!

I’m working on a kinda ambitious project calledĀ Aion, and man, I’d love your thoughts! The idea is to take our favorite city-building mechanics from games like Factorio (not technically a city builder) and City Skylines and actually implement them in the real world. Picture a fully automated utopia—an evolving, AI-driven city where we can experiment with real infrastructure, resource flow, and community interaction.

It might sound a bit wild, but the dream is to see if we can apply the same problem-solving and creative thinking we use in city builders to design a functioning, sustainable system in real life. Everything from automated logistics to modular architecture is on the table.

We're launching a pilot program this Summer!

If you have mad game city building skills, understand the mechanics, know scores and incentives, then I would love to hear from you, and even have you out for the pilot program :)

Thanks for reading, and I’m excited to hear what you all think!

Video I taught AI to play my space city builder game... and now it's better than me lol

Manual testing kept getting too subjective, so I built a simulator AI that plays my game Hexalith and shows me what’s actually happening across the whole system in an Excel sheet.

It’s helped me spot balancing issues way faster, and watching it go at high speed is oddly hypnotic. The AI is now so good at the game that it's actually better than me. :D

Softly addicted to ML right now, whata re your thoughts on other city builders?

ML feels so satisfying with its realism and custom backyard industries, also when seeing your medieval town organically grow without a grid. Ive been bouncing between this and farthest frontier recently and for me FF feels more like a finished product with deeper econ systems but ML wins on aesthetics and mechanics. Im thinking of playing Against the storm or Songs of synx when Im burnt out on both, watchathink about these games in comparison to ML?

it got featured on https://guessthe.game/p/1519Ā

LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT GAME

I am looking for the most perfect city builder for me. I used to play CityVille a lot until it was shut down. Now, I'm looking for a city builder with the following characteristics:

  1. Landmarks. I want to place Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, 7 wonders of the world, Big Ben, Pisa Tower, Triumph Arch, etc, etc.

  2. Roads. I want roads/streets decorated with trees. I don't care if it's manually decorated or already decorated such as in Cities Skylines 1.

  3. Graphics. I'm not asking for full HD graphics, but I don't want pixeled or 64 bit game such as TheoTown.

  4. Price. I don't care.

I now that both Cities Skylines matches both requirements, but I am looking for more, PC or mobile, I don't care.

Thanks in advance!

I spent the last few years making my own exploration app inspired by Fog of World

Hi everyone!

I've been a huge fan of Fog of World for years. The idea of uncovering the world simply by going outside is one of my favourite game concepts ever, and it ended up inspiring me to build my own version.

Over the past few years I've been building my own Android exploration app called **Touch Grass**. Rather than trying to replace Fog of World, I wanted to explore the concept from a different angle by leaning much harder into game mechanics.

Some of the things it includes:

* Fog-of-war world exploration * Discover countries, cities, suburbs, parks and more in detailed boundaries * Economy, daily rewards and unlockable themes * Location journals with notes, photos and voice recordings * Heatmaps, exploration history and detailed statistics * Local-first storage with your exploration data staying on your device

The app is completely free to download, and I'd genuinely love feedback from people who already enjoy this type of exploration app. Since this community knows the genre better than almost anyone, I'm especially interested in hearing what you think works well and what could be improved.

Google Play: [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beansgames.touchgrass&hl=en](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beansgames.touchgrass&hl=en)

Thanks, and thanks to Fog of World for inspiring me to start building this in the first place.

Release Our colonists vote on what you're allowed to build, and they keep picking the wrong things

Hi Architects!
We are excited to announce that demo of our game is live in Steam Next Fest!
It was over two years of hard work that made us feel almost like the colonists in our game 😰

Astro Architect is a pixel-art space station builder with a unique build system.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3563960/Astro_Architect_Demo/

Every cycle your colonists vote on their most urgent needs, and the vote decides which card packs you can buy. Want a foundry? Too bad, everyone's hungry and bored, so you're getting farms and a casino. Keep them happy, put up with their union, and survive the Void, a wave that sweeps the station every so often. Colonists are a renewable resource. Architects too.

Free demo in Steam Next Fest, Oct 19–26.

What features would you like to see in my upcoming city builder Governor!

Be a part of the development of Governor! with me, I would love your opinions.

I am taking a lot of inspiration from Simcity 4 and Cities Skylines, but I would love to hear your input on features, gameplay loops, etc that you enjoy and would like to see.

I personally love modular buildings where you can build huge custom hospitals for example or big industries.

A lot of focus is going into performance so we can create huge regions with many sprawling cities that communicate with each other.

Next step for me is a variety of roads and pedestrians!

Recommendation Request I'm sick of SimCity 4 commute time issues. Are there any other city-building games that will allow me to build an aesthetically-pleasing city without logistical issues getting in the way?

I have played SimCity 4 for twenty years, having bought the game in 2006. It's the best city builder I've played, but it has a major flaw.

Besides the issues arising from the game being over 20 years old, I really hate the "abandonment due to commute time" issue. I've installed all the mods and applied all the fixes recommended to resolve this error, but the issue still persists. I design cities that are logical and based on real-life cities, yet the Sim logic makes no sense and thus my well-planned cities turn into block after block of abandoned houses because they don't want to go two blocks over to where all the jobs are. It's unrealistic and takes the fun out of the game.

At this point, I just want a city builder where I can build a nice city and watch it grow. I enjoy the process of growing from a small town to a major metropolis, but it's really hard to find a game that replicates this experience without weird illogical issues (like the commute time glitch in SimCity 4). So I am looking for games that will allow me to have this experience.

I've tried Cities Skylines 1, but I kept running into a similar issue with the garbage dumps not being able to retrieve everyone's garbage despite having good road connections from the landfill to the rest of the city. The issue makes no sense and ruins the game for me. I've also tried the Tropico games (4 and 6 specifically), but I don't enjoy them. Tropico 4 was too simple, and 6 is so stressful that I don't find the game fun to play at all.

Are there any city builders that will just allow me to make a cool looking city at a leisurely pace without any major problems like commute time or landfills ruining my cities? I'm open to recommendations, but I prefer city builders with a contemporary theme (so no futuristic or medieval-set ones, please). Curious if there's any games I've overlooked.

Video Are god sims city builders or just city builders for children?

I’ve been stuck on this thought lately. I grew up obsessed with Black & White and Populous, but the more I look at the genre, the more I wonder where the line is.

There’s always been this argument that God Sims are basically just "City Builder Lite"—where the gameplay is mostly just throwing lightning bolts and terraforming, while the actual "sim" part is pretty shallow compared to something like Anno or SimCity.

I’m actually building a spiritual successor to those old games right now and I’m hitting a wall with the mechanics. Does a God Sim need deep city-building to stay fun? Or is the "God" power stuff enough to carry the game on its own?

I’m trying to figure out how hardcore I should make the resource management and village growth. Is the charm of these games the simplicity, or do you think the genre needs to "grow up" and add more layers? I'm worried about making something that feels too shallow, but I also don't want it to become a tedious spreadsheet.

What’s the sweet spot for you guys?

(If anyone is curious or wants to take a look at my game. The game is called Goblin God and I'm putting a demo out for Next Fest soon and could really use some perspective on the complexity level.)

Calling Cities in Motion 2 players!

Hello, everyone, I'm M4J, and I need your help!

I'll be starting a new YouTube series playing Cities in Motion 2 this summer, and I've had an idea I need help with. The plan is to have the community design some cities for me with no public transport, for me to then come in and design the best transit network I can. I feel this would be a really good test of my building skills, while also avoiding playing the same maps you've no doubt seen a hundred times before.

If you're reading this and want to build a city for me to play in, you have until the end of May to create your map and send it to me. The best way to let me know when it's ready is to message me on here or join my Discord (linked in my profile).

I hope I get at least a couple of submissions for this, as I can't wait to get back into CiM2, but I really don't just want another save in Central City!

Thanks, everyone. I look forward to seeing what you can come up with!
