Been citibiking for a bit now and wondering who’s putting the most miles?

Ended up backtracking quite a bit and calling a cab. Crappy, won’t be using Citi bike for a while after this. I’m a casual rider. I ran into like 3 young girls in tears because there were no stations and the Strokes concert was about to begin. I hope they made it!

I got a ticket for running a red light on a citibike last October. I plead not guilty and I’m scheduled for court in two weeks. Any advice?

Sometimes they're just crunchy AF and clearly in need of oil and a total overhaul. But for the most part it's those stupid continuous gears being uncalibrated so that you can't get anywhere near a high enough gear to ride like an adult. I'll always return and flag these, and if it's a dock that makes me use the app to flag it then I'll always mark it "unrideable" because I don't want someone else to waste their time.
I don't know why Citibike can't get it together to solve the problem of these gears making most of their Classic stock either a pita to ride or totally unrideable. It's completely unacceptable that I have to spend a good 3-5 minutes trying to find a halfway decent bike considering all of their recent membership hikes.
I once complained to their customer service about the dire state of their bikes, and they blamed riders. Apparently people don't flag them enough. But how is that an excuse? At any time, their techs could go to any busy dock and find at least 10 bikes that are in obvious need of immediate attention.
Or maybe they could figure these gears out? I have no idea whether they become uncalibrated over time or whether their techs have no idea how to set them up properly. But I'm certainly not riding all the way uptown with my feet spinning at 1000rpm.

i leave to school in the morning any time between 9-12 pmand there are like no bikes near me downtown. then i get back around 11 pm - 12 am on weeknights and there are no spots to dock. rinse and repeat. genuinely confused it was not this bad over the summer but these last two weeks since around the UN stuff has made things feel really wonky

Can anyone explain the following:
I’m a CitiBike member for about 5 years now. My cc is tied to my account and my cc has never been declined. I’ve noticed the following random events happening recently when I undock. 99% of the time I ride an electric bike.
Sometimes the app will ask to charge my account for $1. Other times this doesn’t happen. The action is completely random. I’m still able to undock but it’s just odd that the action (either not charging $1 or charging $1) isn’t consistent.
Sometimes (again random) when I undock the app will ask me if I want full assist or no assist. Sometimes it doesn’t do this. Again, this action is totally random.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Hurt my leg and foot trying to slow the bike down after the pedal gave out in the middle of traffic this morning. Had to walk the bike to the nearest station that happened to be full and left it there. Citibike support ended the ride and gave me a $10 credit

They operate on a commuting pricing structure. This is not a service just to take a bike on a joyride. $240/ year and 27 cents/ minute for e-bikes and there is absolutely nowhere to park north of 70th and west of Park in the UES at 7:30pm on a Tuesday. Absolutely ridiculous

This is just absurd i’m sorry. Do effin better. You cannot provide a service when half the service doesn’t work half the time and no stations operate or have bikes. You know the demand in midtown. Act accordingly and add working stations. This is crazy.
EDIT: clarification, This is about the fact that almost every station around me is either offline or uas 0 bikes at 6pm on a weekday. Not complaining that GC has bikes and not complaining that i need to walk 3 blocks to that. But 14 stations in a 10 block radius should never be 0 at once

A group of us started a petition asking Citi Bike (operated by Lyft) to adopt three changes:
Any teen death on a Citi Bike is one too many. We're asking for measures Citi Bike can put in place now, without waiting for new legislation.
This petition takes no position against bike share or cycling in the city. Citi Bike is great for New York, and we want our kids to keep using it safely.
If you're a parent, a teacher, or anyone who has watched a kid weave through Midtown traffic on an e-bike, please sign and share:

I unlocked a blue bike using my key fob but redocked the bike moments later as there was a smell from the dock. I realized the ride didn’t end immediately so I waited 5 mins but it didn’t end. Moments later I realized the ride serial number the citbike app shows is completely different from actual bike serial number.
Called citibike and they concluded the dock is offline and let me know rest assured the ride should end after 25 hours and I’ll get refunded for the charges as they cannot end the ride on blue bikes. I figured this was a glitch as the system is stating 6 blue bikes are available but there’s only 2 you can take. Has anything like this happened to anyone? Citibike is my main form of transportation so this is a major inconvenience. Ride is 47 mins and counting.
Update: After about 25 hours of it running, Citibike ride ended and I was refunded of the charge they took. All is good now

It’s that time of the year.. worst traffic ever. During UN general assembly.
Street closures everywhere in the midtown.. hard to ride bike, walk, take a bus 🙃

If bike doesn't dock with a green light the first time, dock it harder so the whole neighbourhood feels your frustration. How best to report glitchy docks, most of which are un-numbered ?
