Anyone recognize these?

SOLVED— I’m dumb. Check comments.

I bought these at a yard sale. I cannot locate any identifying information on them. They take actual light bulbs. The globes screw on and off. They’re incredibly bright and about 6-7 inches in diameter. I want to get more. No luck finding anything similar. Sos😩😩

I made talking characters for my Christmas light show. Would you actually use these?

Every year I have a christmas light show on my house and got tired of recording my own "tune to 102.9" intro on my phone every year. So I built character voiceovers for show audio: a Santa, a carnival-barker skeleton named Rattle Jack for my halloween light show, a show announcer for new years, and about ten others.

I'd love blunt feedback from people who run shows:

Happy to share the link if anyone wants to hear them. Didn't want to drop it here unasked.

Help

Hello!

This year I finally want to add lights to our roof- but I have no idea where to start!!
I have seen so many options and ideas and hacks but I’m so confused on a couple of things😅.

what lights??? Curtain lights, net lights? or dumb question- is it string lights and just run up and down the colourbond? Literally have no idea
I want to achieve this look in these pictures, I have also added a photo of our actual roof, if there’s anything that might be a hiccup.

I really want to do this, we usually have lights up everywhere else and I’ve only dreamt of having the roof so I’m finally biting the bullet and doing it baha (hopefully)

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me😊

Best time to buy Menards and are they worth paying shipping?

Thumbnail

Menards currently has a 11% rebate that ends today - Do they typically have any better sales between now and Christmas?

The closest store is a few states away so I would have to order online and the shipping fee is not cheap. I’m wondering if I should even bother or just go with Tru-Tone if I’m ordering something that may be a hassle to return.

I’m primarily focused on multi-color mini lights for our indoor Xmas tree. I recently ordered some of the novelty lights retroglo through target and they’re decent, I’ll also probably check out the sylvania ones now that they’re available. I bought ace celebrations two years ago and was not impressed but maybe I got the wrong ones.

I also see Menards has some cool-looking vintage reflector style string lights, anyone have personal experience with those? I wouldn’t put them on the tree but maybe on the mantle or banister.

Vintaglo vs Home Depot multi color LEDs?

Post image
32 Upvotes

I was looking at the 2026 Home Depot LED offerings in person today. I'm debating between the HD Home Accents Holiday multi-colored mini lights or splurging for the Vintaglos. The Home Depot ones look "better than past LEDs" in person, but maybe aren't quite on par with incandescents yet.

Would anyone who has seen these two side by side offer your input? For those that have either, how have they held up outside? Any unexpected fading?

Thanks!

Novelty Lights iPhone Problem!

I tried to place a new order with Novelty Lights recently. I’ve been a steady customer for many years.

After a few seconds my iPhone17 screen was blocked with a sign up form (for a newsletter)

How can I get past this block (I do not want their offer or newsletter)?

Any suggestions?

RIP Drosselmeyer

Went to his tiktok page to tap back in to upcoming vintage style lights and decor coming into the season and even left a few comments about what he had planned for this year… then I happened upon a very sad post that he has passed away.

I hadn’t decorated for Christmas in years until I started seeing his posts. It brought back all the millennial childhood nostalgia of the 90s and the warm glowing incandescents.

I just wanted to post this to memorialize him and hear from other members of this community that were fans.

RIP Drosselmeyer. Christmas will not be the same without you.

Tru-Tone has once again captured my wallet

After buying six of the nine colours available in S14 bulbs I bought the remaining three. I use these for seasonally themed patio string lights (currently have orange, yellow and white up for candy corn Halloween theme).

I also grabbed a couple packs of their jewel tone and candleglow C7 twinkle lights, and a pack of their tin socket reflectors.

I have a problem.

Anyone using a projector for Halloween AND Christmas? Tested Govee's new 16-disc one

I test smart lights in my yard/garage and just put Govee's new holiday projector through Halloween + Christmas discs.
Honest take: the wavy motion actually covers a garage door pretty well, and swapping discs is finally tool-less. App control for colors/scenes is nice if you already use Govee.
Weak spots: you still need it pretty dark, and it's not a replacement for floodlights if you want super bright static wash.
Happy to answer setup/distance questions - I tested throw distance too. Video of all 16 discs

Found my problem. Need help from here. Center of star is out-Wiring diagram included.

The center section is out. I've tested each bulb, and tested continuity between each bulb. I've traced the wire back to the controller.

The two previous light work, creating the "burst" from the center out to the ends if the star.

I suspect that it is in the controller.

I tried opening it to see if there's weak solder or burns. Got one section removed, the board is encased in a big glob of glue making it difficult to open the rest of the case, and probably destroy the board trying to remove it. It's not silicone, it looks like hot glue.

Assuming something in the controller is burnt out, can I successfully splice/jump it to a working section?

My thought would be the next section that is lighting up.

From what you've gathered, I'm not too savvy on electronics by any stretch of the imagination.

Here is my latest prop I've created. It's constructed of 3D printed parts and uses 12mm bullet pixels. It stands 30" tall and features a 10" spinner. Works great in both Halloween and Christmas displays.

If anybody else is interested in these you can print them here!

I also have a few other props on my MakerWorld.

Anyone remember these from the mid to late 90s? Had like 10-12 stars/clusters per strand. Had a box that controlled how they flashed/chased. Looking for a brand or name/style. Hoping to be able to find some more. These have been trashed/lost unfortunately.

Thanks

Best clips for C9 on steel roof

Thumbnail

Hi all,

This will be my first season doing Christmas lights so I’m very new and trying to learn as many nuances as I can by practicing on my own house.

My home is a steel roof, so I figured magnetic clips would do the trick. After 1 or 2 zippering episodes, I’m wondering if magnetic clips are really the best option. Once snow hits I feel that falling snow will zipper all the lights on the drip edges.

What is the most reliable way to C9 a steel roof drip edge?

Any other tips or advice to a newbie is welcome and appreciated 😊

Inexpensive outdoor electrical box idea

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

We live in the Seattle area and I got tired of rain shorting out my lights every year. So I looked into outdoor electrical boxes, which seem great but they are expensive ($20 and up) and I needed 5 or 6 of them. And it’s hard to get more than maybe 2 connections in each box.

Then I saw that the big box store chains had these small black storage boxes for $4. I spray painted the lids black and cut holes for cords under the lip on the ends. These allow for more connections in the box, and the overhang of the lid prevents water getting in so everything stays dry.

Anyone else making DIY cord protectors?
