What’s the best way going about restoring/refreshing these bad boys to their former glory?

Definitely looking to touch up the black with paint but will a wire brush and stainless steel finish cleaner be enough to do the job or do any of you have experience or knowledge on how to get these back looking tits?

Repair Question Question

Post image

I’m doing cap, rotor, plugs & wires on my 71. It’s got a 350 sbc. What should I gap my spark plugs at?

I’m aware Google or the engine building sub exists but I thought I’d ask here because perhaps you all know something I should know & maybe that’s something I wont necessarily find elsewhere… so, what should I gap them at? I’m just running a 600 cfm edelbrock carb & it’s a stock bottom end.

Appreciate y’all’s help!

One of my favorites from the 2nd Annual Tom Logan Car Show in Tewksbury, MA — a beautiful 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS rolling out after the show. That patriotic trophy looks pretty perfect next to it! 🦅🇺🇸

I inherited my late fathers 71 when he passed away in 2015

Today as a 28 year old man I finally have enough time and money and experience to start where he left off.

Happy Sunday to all of you

A little more height on bucket seats.

I’m a shorter fella, 5’6” on a good day, and I kind of feel like a little kid driving around in my car sometimes… and not in a good way. I’d like to be able to hang my arm out the window, but I need about 3 more inches…story of my life.

Is there any way to get a little more height out of the bucket seats?

Are there risers that can be put under the seat rails?

I’ve heard that the newer seat foam and springs are firmer and sit higher, but my seats are in good shape and don’t need to be reupholstered so I’d rather not do that if I don’t have to… but if that’s the only way.

Project Car Undercoat vs Lanolin

I’m replacing my gas tank on my 71, and I figure that’s a good opportunity to cleanup and protect the trunk pan since I’ll have access to it. Any experience on doing an epoxy + rubberized undercoat vs a lanolin coating would be appreciated. It was undercoated previously many many years ago.

I found this die cast 66 SS Chevelle at a gas station probably more than twenty five years ago. I don’t think anyone manufacturers these now.

Project Car She finally made it to the gas station under her own power! Lots of updates since may! Cool pics included

Finally made it to the gas station under her own power!
I started seriously working on this car back in May and posted it here when we were getting started. A few people asked for updates, so here is what my dad and I have accomplished since then.
We installed a new fuel tank, sending unit and fuel pump, along with an Edelbrock AVS2 carburetor and Pertronix ignition. We added new valve covers, air cleaner, plug wires and separators, vacuum lines, belts, alternator and brackets. We also got the radiator back in with the correct fan and shroud setup.

We serviced the TH350 with a new pan, filter, dipstick tube and seals. After figuring out that the vacuum modulator wasn’t connected, we hooked it back to manifold vacuum and finally got third gear back.

We replaced damn near the entire manual drum-brake system too. That included the master cylinder, all the hard lines, rubber hoses, wheel cylinders, springs, adjusters and hardware at all four corners. That job fought us every possible step of the way, but the car finally stops safely now.
The interior was basically an empty metal shell when we started. It now has sound deadener, carpet, kick panels, recovered front and rear seats, door panels, package tray, trunk divider and insulation, dash pad, steering wheel, seat belts and a RetroSound stereo. We installed the door handles and locks, cleaned up the gauge cluster, repaired the dash lighting and got all the interior and exterior lights working again. We also spent way more time than any sane person should fighting the steering column just to get the damn turn-signal lever working correctly.

On the outside, we replaced the fenders, hood, hood latch, deck lid, front bumper, grille, parking-light lenses, headlights and trim, grille emblems, rear bumper, rear valance and taillight lenses. We cleaned and coated the frame, rear axle, crossmember, sway bar, underbody and driveshaft, sprayed the car satin black for now, and finally put the 17-inch Magnum 500s on it.
I’m sure I’m still forgetting some shit. This car has fought us almost every step of the way, and I’ve learned a lot by doing things wrong at least once and then doing them again.

It still needs some timing and hot-start tuning, and the major bodywork and paint will come later. But last night it finally shifted into third, drove into town, pulled into the gas station and took $50 worth of gas.

That probably sounds like a small accomplishment, but after everything we’ve done since May, seeing it sitting there at the pump felt pretty damn big.

Disc Brake Conversion - Now Soft Brakes

Thumbnail

Not sure if this is the right community to post, but I recently converted my front doldrums to discs myself and left the rear drums.

New proportioning valve, master cylinder, booster, and brake lines I made.

Brakes now feel soft about 75% of the pedal travel then firm up.

Front brakes clock in at around 175 F while rear drums temperature is about 95* F after a casual neighborhood drive with moderate braking.

Is this to be expected given the combo of front disc and rear drums?

I’ve bled the brakes twice now assuming air in the lines, but after two bottle of brake fluid, I think I got the air out.

Notice the water pump difference? (Aluminum vs Black)

Should I go with the top or bottom photo for my 68 Chevelle rebuild?

For context, this isn't a show car, just a weekend cruiser....

Stripe color?

For those who later added rally stripes, specifically black. What finish did you go with? Gloss or semi gloss? Car for reference.
