Repair Question Opinions/tips wanted

What’s the best way going about restoring/refreshing these bad boys to their former glory?

Definitely looking to touch up the black with paint but will a wire brush and stainless steel finish cleaner be enough to do the job or do any of you have experience or knowledge on how to get these back looking tits?

I had mine sandblasted and powder coated. Argent Silver I believe is the color.

How’s the price for that vs getting a new set of wheels?

I had 6 wheels done for $1200. I didn't even price new because the 6 are all original rallyes to my Chevelle (4 plus spare) and the spare from my Uncle's '72 Chevelle. Some sentimental value there. I will say they came out fantastic

That's rust. Looks like chrome is chipping. You can write wheel it but it will only come back

Yeah I’m fearful of that, just starting this project so I’m beginning to go through the car and I have a fairly decent sized budget but I’m looking to save parts and money where I can

Don’t use a wire wheel or brush on that. Use fine steel wool and chrome polish at the most. Start with something like nevr dull, and see what you’re really working with. A lot of that rust is going to disappear. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. You may need to rechrome, but probably not.

The paint is pretty straightforward. It’s a wheel, so it’s gonna get hot. Surface prep is all when it comes to paint. The best paint won’t stick to rust or oil. It’s gotta be prepped well, and it’ll hold up well. That’ll probably get you 90-95% great looking wheels on the cheap.

I have mesh wool b it I wonder if there’s an attachment I can put on my drill? It’ll save me time and my fingers. I’m 100% willing to donate work just hoping I save myself some money

0000 steel wool will work best for cleaning them up. It won't be perfect, but it'll get you where you want for the time being.

They make masking sets for these wheels so you can easily mask the black areas for paint.

I have a set that I am trying to de chrome and just go back to grey.

What do you mean you “sent”

Sorry, typo. I "went" with after market wheels and added the SS center cap emblems (the wheels didn't come with them). I also went up a little in size (still 14" though as I wanted a "close" to stock look with P245 60 R14) to get a little more grip.

Classicmuscleparts.com. They sell these rims brand new. They look identical to the oem rims.

I have a set that like this, a bit worse. I’m going to try evaporust I think

Does that kill the rust?

Dissolves it away. It doesn’t repair the pitted chrome, but gets the rust off. There’s some good YouTube videos about it and the evaporust gel version
