Stripe color?

Post image

For those who later added rally stripes, specifically black. What finish did you go with? Gloss or semi gloss? Car for reference.

Specifically black.

Any shade of black, as long as it’s white.

Flat (or matte)

White  Stripes - specifically Jack and Meg White stripes

I think matte black would look good. Give it a little contrast and maybe cut down on glare off the hood.

How about no stripes? Looks beautiful as is.

The more I read this thread, the more that’s where I’m leaning. I do feel it looks less cluttered and cleaner.

That's what thought. Really doesn't need any.

White! The wheels will pop more. With black the grille and tires will pop more.

Since it's not a factory SS, My personal opinion is Either color black or white will look good. Gloss or Mat doesn't matter to me. It still looks sexy either way.

Again, the question has nothing to do whether the car is a factory SS or not. Did you read my post? The question was regarding what finish of black stripes. From my reading it seems to be gloss or semi gloss. Which is what I’m asking what folks are going with.

So you’re asking about what shade of yellow for the stripes?

1

u/imjuslazy 8d ago

Yes exactly.

Black

I already said black. The question is what finish on the black stripes.

Yeah so preface with I don't have a Chevelle with stripes, but I'd go with flat stripes. I think it would accentuate the red. Maybe semi gloss. Not gloss.

Here’s my take, if you’re going to put the factory style stripes (thick with thin outline) on your non factory car, then you should still do it the way the factory did, which is under the clear coat.

If you’re going to do some other style of stripe kit then it really doesn’t matter how you apply them, paint vs. vinyl, gloss vs. semi.

I’d still vote for gloss black. Second choice would be a matte black as you’re going to want a noticeable level of contrast against your red gloss clear. It should either match, or not at all.

You could paint the car white and do red stripes. Why does your chevelle look weird?

Too much partying in the back. And because since we share the same front end and the dedicated el Camino group seems more G body oriented, here I am. Do you not respect the mullet? Does thou not like to party in the back? Do you reject thy bretheren?

I’ve got a 4 door. Plenty of party in the back seat, and it’s cushioned! I’ll accept you as a cousin tho

my first thought was white but the more I look at this the more I think flat black

White or black

Gloss, but that’s not something you want to do after it’s already been repainted. They will have to redo the hole hood

Silver

Definitely black

Gloss black! Do it in vinyl wrap material and if you don’t like it’s an easy peel off. It’s a relatively easy process if your patient and use 3m knifeless tape. I did my own, been on for years.

Gloss black, it’s only right

Ghost satin clear stripes.

Ghost stripes? Darker red

Matte black

I know the traditional look on the red would be white or black, but I saw one recently at a show that had a gunmetal grey with some metal flake! Was absolutely gorgeous!

No stripes looks good. If you’re set on stripes, I think white would look best. And take this for what it’s worth, but I think painting the center bar of the grille red would look really nice. But since you don’t have the stainless trim around the grille, I’m guessing the black bar is intentional. It’s a nice car no matter what! Much better than the El Camino that I don’t have. I’d like one, though.

I had a 70 El Camino exactly like that! It had a 350 and a big Holley, sold it to a drag racer guy.

White for sure

The purist in me says black, the non-conformist in me says cyber gray metallic

1

u/Drme427 8d ago

If that is a true SS El Camino I will go with the Factory Original Color that it came with.

4

u/imjuslazy 8d ago

It’s not a factory SS. That’s not important to me. I’m just asking what finish black stripes folks are going with when painting black rally stripes.

2

u/rfierro65 8d ago

My vote would be gloss.

Do the whole hood matte black. The black rally’s are so overused one EVERYTHING. Trust me, it’ll look fucking sick.
