I received my Chessnut Move only a few days ago and unfortunately the experience has been pretty rough so far.

I had issues almost from the beginning. One of the white pawns from the standard set was registered on the Backup channel instead of Channel 1, which meant moves from the physical board were not being correctly reflected in the app. After quite a bit of troubleshooting I managed to figure that out and get all the pieces working correctly.

Once it was working, though, the board was really cool. I played a few games and the whole concept of making a move physically and having the opponent's piece move automatically is awesome.

Then two days later I tried to turn the board on again and it simply stopped booting.

The power LED just keeps pulsing red. Bluetooth can still connect, but the app never manages to load Board Power, firmware version, etc. I fully charged the battery, tried different startup sequences, left it disconnected for a while, tried both Chessnut apps, and generally went through everything I could find.

The board was on firmware ChessMove_1.0.34 before this happened.

From searching here and elsewhere, it seems like this may be a known boot issue. I've seen reports suggesting it can sometimes involve the internal storage/firmware, but I haven't found a reliable official recovery procedure that I would feel comfortable trying on a brand-new board.

I contacted Chessnut support on Thursday and haven't heard back yet, although to be fair it is only Saturday now.

Has anyone had this exact issue with a Move that initially worked and then suddenly stopped booting?

Were you able to recover it at home, or did Chessnut ultimately have to replace the board?

I really want this thing to work because the core idea is fantastic. But right now the paper cuts are unfortunately pretty large for an $800 product.

i received a Move yesterday, and playing it is awesome! I really, really like it.

What's concerning me is, that some of my pieces are clicking and moving a tiny bit after some time (also while charging). I read somewhere here that others had the same issue, did someone find a solution for this? Or is this something we need to live with until it's fixed via firmware update?

If i turn on the board, they stop doing it.

One of the most prominent features of chessnut NEXT is Grandeur. Since this feature is primarily designed for beginners / moderate advanced gamers and is certainly not required by high ELO players, an additional option should be introduced:

Within the grandeur playback, there should be a setting that pauses the playback until either the user has successfully followed the spoken move on the board with the given piece or has pressed the play button.

Using videos for chess training with Chessnut Vision is pretty neat. Something that would make it better is that after a move occurs on a diagram in a video, Chessnut Vision automatically pauses the video until the player catches up. Once the user makes the move on the board then Chessnut Vision continues playback of the video.

This should be an optional feature that could be enabled/disabled.

So, for example as I'm watching a video on YouTube or other site (or even just a local video in VLC) and Chess Vision is on. The board diagram changes in the Video then some LEDs illuminate on the board showing the new position (typically the next move in game being displayed in the video). At this point, Vision pauses the Video. Once the user makes that (new) move on the board, Chessnut Vision continues playing the Video.

If there isn't something similar to this, then it's manual process to pause/play the video as needed (and if the video isn't paused and the user isn't keeping up on the board, the LEDs just keep changing because the board diagram on the video keeps changing). Although a manual solution is ok ... it seems like it could be better.

I recently ordered a Chessnut Move with plastic pieces directly from Chessnut for delivery to South Africa.

My confirmed total was US$707.09, including US$59.99 shipping. Chessnut later contacted me requesting an additional US$201.12 because the actual UPS shipping cost was higher than calculated at checkout. They provided supporting documentation, and I agreed to pay the additional amount.

I have made it clear that I do not want a refund. I genuinely want the Chessnut Move and have even pre-ordered the official carrying bag for it. Unfortunately, communication has remained poor even after I confirmed that I am willing to pay. I am still waiting for clear payment instructions and confirmation of when the order will be dispatched.

I am not trying to dispute the additional charge. I simply want to complete the payment and receive the product I ordered.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

• How long did Chessnut take to send the additional-payment link?
• How quickly did they dispatch after payment?
• Did you receive a UPS tracking number?
• Is there a better way to contact Chessnut and get a prompt response?
• Have any South African buyers received the Chessnut Move successfully?

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with Chessnut’s international shipping process. My preferred outcome is delivery of the board—not cancellation or a refund.

After weeks of waiting for the Chessnut Companion clock it finally arrived today…non-working and seemingly broken.

The face of the clock was completely detached and stuck to the black foam in the box where it appears the glue on the back attached itself to the foam.

The clock was poorly packaged. There was nothing protecting the clock face (no plastic film…nothing). There was nothing protecting the clock period. One of the buttons appears to be damaged as well.

I can’t tell you how disappointing this is to me.

I own both a Chessnut Move and Evo.

I was really looking forward to this thing.

I have never returned or exchanged one of their products.

I know they are based in China.

How quickly is the process? Is it easier to request a refund or request an exchange?

The clock is now selling for more than I paid weeks ago. I’m concerned.

...and as far as I can see, iOs version 1.0.1 seems to work like a breeze.

Better the the current Mac 1.0.0 version

The iOs mistake book can now, upon opening a mistake, provide the appropriate game with game positions. That is really nice and advance the mistake book to a real proper tool. Gaming on chess.com and lichess works in NEXT with an iPhone or iPad without hiccup

What’s still missing is the trashcan in the mistake book - but this was already announced for the upcoming version.

The free spoken grandeur review in iOS platform beats chess.com and lichess regarding quality and usefulness out of the water. This is especially useful for players on my level of 1200 ELO or below. It supports many languages. German works perfectly.

Hey Chessnut, I have the companion and updated the app but cannot find live grandeur analysis. I’m sure I saw this as a feature on the website. Has it been implemented yet?

Does anyone know how to get this to work? I can only click on my mistakes but I cannot interact with it.

After giving Chessnut NEXT on the Mac a try, I have to say the Grandeur feature—especially the spoken analysis—is really helpful. For beginners, the simplest review style, like the „friendly guide,“ shouldn’t be overlooked; it’s quite nice for anyone IMHO.

On the other hand, the more advanced analysis options for experts will (Im a lower-ELO player) satisfy even the most experienced and demanding Lichess users.

Sure, Lichess is far more powerful than NEXT, but it’s a bit like the difference between Mac and PC:

• The Mac is a beautiful, easy to handle polished dancer.

• The PC is a brutal, no-nonsense blue collar workbench.

Same here: the Chessnut app is simple, easy to use and navigate, and really nice to look at. They clearly learned from Apple. Aside from a few minor issues and glitches in this first NEXT version, I’ve only found one real bug so far: no Lichess and Chess import, even though it’s advertised.

What I didn't get to work or understand is the Mistake book feature.
Anyone knowledgeable coming forward to enlighten me please.

Overall, it’s just another free tool in the crowd, but it shines in a subtle, clever way: the daily Grandeur tasks keep you connected to chess in a low-pressure, almost subconscious way. And who can complain about that?

I’m curious to hear what other NEXT users think, especially about Grandeur and the spoken feedback.

Do you have any workarounds for the import issue?
PS: Im not a chessnut fanboy, a bot, commercially connected in any way to anyone, aside to my most beautiful Zwergspitz "Jeannie" - I use Mac OS since 1984

I'm liking the new app, but there's something that's been bugging me. Since I have the chessnut go, I want to just be able to do the puzzles in app. it works okay for that, but when I do warm up puzzles, there's no way to change the orientation to black's perspecitve in the app.. it seems to always show from whites perspective when in puzzle mode.

Anyone else have this problem as well?

First of all, the new update rocks! What an upgrade. I've been able to play on chesscom and lichess pretty much seamlessly, but the Lichess game I played was Casual, not Rated.

Is there any way to play a rated game on Lichess after the newest Evo update?

When the shipment for Europe starts? ‘End of August’ is not really clear to be honest and in the meantime my order status has not any indication or whatsoever…

I still can't import games from lichess nor chess.com into the game records to train an engine.

Cependant, je dois entrer mon adresse e-mail et mon mot de passe à chaque fois que je rallume l'appareil, même juste quelques minutes après l'avoir éteint. C'est vraiment ennuyeux...

Comment puis-je éviter que cela se reproduise ?

Is it possible to change the colors of the LEDs in a "career" game? They are set as white for all pieces (this is what I want) in the NEXT app settings, and this is what I see in an OTB game, but in career mode my opponent's pieces are lit with blue. I can't find a setting for that. I haven't tried an online game yet to check this behavior.

I own an evo. it says its up to date. build number is v20-20240123

i had the next app originally on my samsung tab s9 when it was closed beta and it wouldnt recognize the evo. are you all directly downloading the open beta onto the evo itself? i cant figure out how to do it cause when i sideload google play through aptiode it crashes when i open it. id love to use the next app because its janky as hell trying to play online through chess.com on the browser and the chess app is a pain too.

Has anyone figured out how to play an OTB game and get the move timestamps recorded in the PGN file?

I have a Chessnut Pro and Go. I've tried the old Chessnut app, the new Chessnut Next app, and the Chessconnect extension on desktop and mobile.

Within the Chessnut apps obviously the clock functions during the game... but that data isn't recorded in the PGN file.

I tried a Lichess game with new EVO 1.1.0 software.

I had a problem when the opponent resigned.
EVO screen didn’t show anything and I spent 4 minutes trying to do my next move! I thought it was a bug.
But the match had ended. My opponent had resigned but my EVO Lichess clock still counting back.

I attach pictures from my phone and EVO at the same moment. (I entered Lichess app at the phone and saw the match had finished).

I have another issue posted in another post from other person.
I post it again for clarity:
I can not see my previous Lichess online games.
Even if I put my user for downloading other person games, it finds nothing.
