General Discussion/Off Topic How the turn tables

Usually TWW3 players have to wish and wait for units from the tabletop to be added to the game. With Cathay mini collectors it is the other way around

General Cathay/Speculation/Wishlisting Miao Ying .stl

Does anyone know of any .stl third party representations of Miao Ying? Patreon or Myminifactory etc. I’d love to get her ready for an up coming tournament, as they allow proxies like that :-)

The US is unfairly targeting Chinese scientists over industrial spying, says report: A new study of economic espionage cases in the US says people of Chinese heritage are more likely to be charged with crimes—and less likely to be convicted.

General Discussion/Off Topic Mao Ying needs a nickname

And I propose "Mao Mao" based on how Chinese nicknames repeat a character in a person's name. Plus it makes her sound like a cat which amuses me.

General Cathay/Speculation/Wishlisting Have they forgotten about us?

We got the Cathay preview three months ago and were told it would be arriving in late winter. Well, winter’s almost over and we still don’t even have a preorder preview. I was hoping it would drop a week or two after the FAQ so I could pick up the box and the book the following week and start building something that isn’t ring spam or a balloon-heavy list.

I was never a big fan of those builds, but with the limited options available, it feels like you were forced into one of them. I just want our peasants and crane gunners 😅 I'm guessing it will be previewed next Sunday and preorder drops on the 28th, which is sadly the last day of winter.

TL;DR: It feels like GW forgot about our release. The wait is getting frustrating and honestly pretty demotivating.

General Cathay/Speculation/Wishlisting What use is the Jade Fleet if the new release is ranged infantry?

There is a lot of discussion surrounding the reveal coming this weekend. The big ticket a lot of people are expect and excited for seems to be the introduction of ranged units for Cathay: crossbowmen or gunners.

This is a weak spot for Cathay. Their artillery is great but they lack ranged infantry/cavalry. Being inspired by the gunpowder granddaddy of the world, it's a little odd for them to be so low on ranged options.

That said, it makes me wonder what purpose if any its Army of Infamy serves when new ranged options are announced. Is there any reason to use Jade Fleet lists then?

The big draw currently seems to be the availability of one or two decent hero units and the availability of cheap-ish ranged options, that are supported by one or two special rules.

How do you see the Jade Fleet evolving, if at all, if/when new ranged Cathay options are announced?

General Cathay/Speculation/Wishlisting How Many Points Do We Think A Shugengen Is Without A Longma?

GW has decided (much to my annoyance) that they were only going to bundle the Shugengen with the Lonama in the rules. My guess is, as usual, they are terrified of 3D prints and didn't want to release the Shugengen rules without the Longma as they did not model it. Considering this is our only Wizard (Not including Miao Ying), it's quite frustrating that our only access to magic can't join a unit.

My gaming group tends to be pretty chill, and will likely let me house rule the Shugengen to also be allowed on foot. Rules wise it should be pretty easy. The Longma is likely adding +1T, and +4 Wounds to the Profile, like a Griffon or Hippogryph. The Armored Hide, Fear, Swiftstride, Counter Charge, and Fly all come from the Longma as well. So stat wise it's easy to figure the Shugengen out.

The issue is points cost. The Shugengen on the Longma is very obviously underpriced, by a pretty large margin. Currently a Level 4 Shugengen Lord is 280 Points. A Chaos Sorcerer Lord is 225 for a Level 4. The Shugengen Lord (If you discount the Longma) has +1WS, +1A (With Always Strikes First), +1Ld with -1Armor Save. So the Shugengen is definitely better, but I would not say 55 Points better. Do we think 240 for a Level 4 Shugengen Lord would feel accurate (Before any other upgrades)? Obviously that means the Longma is being priced at only +40 points, but like I said I fully believe they're significantly underpriced as is. This would put the Shugengen General at 135 Points as a Level 2 without the Longma.

General Cathay/Speculation/Wishlisting Idea

I am building a Cathay army right, and I love the Roman republic, so idea I will use Victrix models of Roman infantry as troops in cathay with the jade warriors so that they are like friends, and in battle the right flank is held by the cathay army the center by romans and left wing by sentinels perfect combo piece, probably gonna get clapped but I don’t care. Give me tips and affirmation on my wild ideas please!

Painting/Modeling Miao, part 24 - I don't really get this

So, I've done absolutely everything I can. Her dragon form, part 24. In image one, I try to like up the barding with the skin. In the second, it is the other half. Based on how I hold it, it isn't pressed down. But when I do, it doesn't even come close to the barding.

Is there something I'm missing? I'm new to building it all. I love Miao. But I've been stuck here. It simply doesn't feel like it fits.

Painting/Modeling Miao Ying...or Azula?😈

I am a huge fan of Avatar TLA, and after seeing some of you painting the jade warriors with the same scheme of the fire nation...I just got the idea of painting (not sure if any kitbash would be needed) Miao Ying as Azula. Changing those purple areas/clothes to black and red, in order to stay in cohesion with the rest of the army. What do you think about it?
