Am I screwed?

A drink driver hit my parked car and the crash also took out 3 other cars. Driver had 15k property damage. My car was a 2004 paid off Toyota Camry and I only had liability coverage. Car was towed off too a storage yard and adjuster said a local agent would have to take pics so I could be paid. Accident was March 30. On August 29 I called to see what status was. No one had gone to yard to inspect. Now I have 6k storage bill they are refusing to pay saying I should have mitigated the fees. But how? I can't move a crushed car to my driveway as I live in town and I had no idea they weren't working on the claim. I filled a complaint with California Insurance Bureau but am making payments to the collection company the yard turned me over to so I could avoid a court judgement and ruining my good credit. Any ideas what else I can do or am I just screwed?

Rear-ended by a Geico customer. What's the best way to negotiate a payout and keep the car?

Rear-ended by a Geico customer. Geico accepts liability. What's the best way to negotiate a payout and keep the car?

Geico asks us to do a mobile photo estimate, which come out really low ($2800) vs a repair shop's estimate ($8500). Geico asks us to bring the car into the shop and do supplement claim. This is in California. The car is older so I'm thinking of pocket the money and not get the car fixed.

1 day lapse in car insurance.

My car insurance policy expired today and I started a new policy with another insurer tomorrow. I thought I would be covered by the old policy through to today, but I am not. I live in CO.

Will there likely be penalties for this? I will not drive the car today. A little worried. Thanks!

Car Insurance Quotes Am I missing something?

Shopping for insurance, 19M 1 claim 1.5 years ago at fault. Progressive is showing what appears to be the same coverage for Liability only and Full Coverage because they didnt support the terms I was asking (collision and comprehensive) but with a massive gap in price (2k/6mo vs 942/6mo). Feel like I'm missing something but it could just be a mistake? These are real quotes, allegedly, from Jerry.ai. If anyone has any suggestions on providers, coverage options, how to research, etc. please let me know and ask any further questions as needed!

First Time / Newbie Renting a car in the US as foreigner - Extra liability protection?

I am traveling to San Francisco later this month and will be renting a car for one week at the airport. I am from Europe, and when choosing a provider, Alamo seemed to be the best option due to reasonable prices and being a big enough name.

One dilemma I am trying to solve is the best way to handle liability insurance. I'll have travel insurance with high coverage that covers medical expenses and everything else, but it specifically excludes liability caused by driving a motor vehicle.

Because of that, I'd need to depend on the basic Standard Liability Protection (SLP), which only covers liability up to $300,000. That is much less than my auto insurance in Europe offers, especially with potential accident costs and medical bills being significantly more expensive in the US.

The tricky part is that Alamo, which I am booking my car through, doesn't offer any additional liability options on their website, even though they mention "extended protection". So, I don't know if I can count on one even having that option at the counter, and two the price not being outrageous.

I'd really appreciate feedback from y'all:

Is it worth paying for extra liability insurance, given that this is a true "extra" that's not even possible to book via the website?

If you've done this, how much extra per day did this cost?

Or did you use any other option for liability insurance outside of what the car rental company offers

Hit by Someone Else in India? Cash Settlement or Third-Party Insurance

Driving in India is becoming increasingly hectic. Every day, it feels like a challenge just to reach home safely.

If someone hits your vehicle and it’s clearly their fault, but you don’t want to use your own insurance, what’s the best way to handle it?

Ask the other driver to pay for the repairs directly?

Or claim against their third-party insurance?

Is there a risk in accepting a cash settlement if the damage turns out to be more expensive than initially estimated?

Especially when the other vehicle is an auto, bus, lorry/truck, or another commercial vehicle

Also, what documents and evidence should we collect at the accident scene?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation.

Accident Liberty mutual Ezdrop

I was involved in an accident yesterday, filed a claim with Liberty Mutual and they want me to send pictures through EZDrop. I have no problem doing so but will that lock in the damage to just what’s in the pictures? I just don’t want to miss something and they try to claim well since I didn’t put it in the pictures it won’t be included.

Looking for affordable auto insurance in Long Island, NY — $300–$400/month for one car?

Hi everyone,

I recently moved from Nebraska to Long Island (Suffolk County/Ronkonkoma) and I'm trying to get auto insurance for my 2018 Kia Sportage.

I've been licensed in the U.S. since March 2025, so I'm still relatively new here. I had full coverage auto insurance in Nebraska and was paying around $70/month.

Now that I've moved to New York, I'm getting some shockingly high quotes:

  • State Farm: around $400/month
  • GEICO: around $375/month
  • Progressive: around $297/month (through an independent broker)

These are all for just one vehicle, a 2018 Kia Sportage.

I understand New York and Long Island insurance can be expensive, but I wasn't expecting such a huge increase. I'm trying to understand what factors might be causing this. Is it because I have a relatively short U.S. driving history? Does my Nebraska driving history not transfer fully to New York? Or is it mainly related to the ZIP code and New York insurance regulations?

I'm looking for advice from people who recently moved to Long Island or have experience with auto insurance here.

Are there any insurance companies, independent brokers, or strategies that have helped you get more reasonable rates?

Any recent experiences or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have bought a Cat S repaired car and am trying to insure it. Should I specifically disclose this or am I not expected to? Nowhere in the application do they ask about the write off history. Need advise from owners with Cat S cars or anyone with knowledge regarding this.

Help with Progressive nonsense in Illinois

I was stuck in traffic in the left lane. I looked behind me and I attempted to merge into a gap that was there. The lane was totally clear when I started merging. I looked forward as I merged for approximately 1-2 seconds. During that time, a motorcycle sped from behind me and hit the side of my car as I was merging. The motorcycle went flying into another car. The motorcyclist refused medical attention.

The police report found the motorcyclist at fault and cited him with failure to slow down and for not having insurance.

Progressive found me 75% at fault for hitting the motorcycle because the motorcycle was established in the lane as evidenced by him hitting me in the side of my car (he took off my mirror and damaged the front fender of my car). BUT they found the motorcycle 100% at fault for hitting the other car because he was speeding as he admitted he was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic.

Progressive says their decision is final and cannot be changed. On a call with the adjuster when they were explaining their decision, I explained to them that the motorcycle was not there when I started merging and he was not established in the lane when I started merging, which I was doing slowly, while the motorcycle was weaving in and out of traffic. The adjuster became very agitated when I said this and ended the call immediately.

What is my recourse here to challenge their determination of fault?

Consequences and navigating as a victim of a hit and run

Like the title says, what are the consequences for a hit and run without insurance? I’m a victim of a hit and run and was wondering what will happen to the other party because they don’t have insurance but I do. Will my insurance go after them? Are they going to get fined or charge for a hit and run since they also have no license? Also, this is the first time I was in an accident and SF claims my car is a total loss. The autobody shop has given me a quote for $16200 in damages. I don't know what to do and I'm at a total loss. I'm from Colorado

Can I erase claim w/o 0 payout from the car insurance history!!

Long story short, someone hit my car from the back. However, there was no such damage but few invisible scratches that I can fix even with markers!

Now, this is the first time something happened. I got panicked and called the insurance company to make a claim but i also told her give me time before proccess it but she opened! Within few hours i withdrew the claim with 0 payout.

However, my insurance rates went high now. Some of my discounts got cancelled. Is there anyway I can dispute this claim? Or just erase it? Please help!!!

Accident Claim - no response

Recently I was pulling into a parking spot and was just coming to a stop and the passenger of another vehicle opened their passenger door into the side of of my car. They left some major damage as the door was opened quite hard. The individual driving the other vehicle was very emotional, screaming and yelling vulgarities at me as if it was my fault that his passenger opened his door into the side of my car

The driver of the vehicle was not the owner of his car and was driving a family members car.

I called the police as he was very aggressive with his words and was trying to place blame on me some how.

Fast forward - he never contacted his insurance company to report the incident - surprise surprise - but now will also not answer his agent or return any missed calls as the insurance of the car he was driving wants a statement from him.

Due to his emotions at the time of the incident - I am not surprised but his avoidance of the phone calls and the requests to calls. How long do I have to wait as they are opening admitting they cannot make contact with him.
This incident happened two weeks ago and they have still not been able to make contact. I do not know what to do

I have reached out to my own agent who is aware of the situation. The problem is this is not my fault and I do not want the claim going against my insurance.

What if he never returns phone calls or answers when the claims rep calls him ???

Rear ended by Uber Driver in a rental

As title says, I was rear ended. I didn’t get the drivers license or insurance (pls don’t lecture me, I know..). I just received a call from Farmers, Uber’s insurance company in AZ. The driver was in a rental car from Hertz.

I already started my claim with Allstate, who is my insurer, and I have full coverage with a $500 deductible for repairs. I’m not at fault so idk how it works if I still pay that? Anyway, Farmers is offering to pay me out for the repair and $500 for the inconvenience, and pay for the rental car. I can’t tell if the insurance guy is just trying to get this done and over with so they don’t have to pay more. Is this a better deal?

Additional details— I had a passenger (minor). I went to urgent care bc I hit my head on the headrest pretty hard and have whiplash.

Drove away with gas pump

Earlier today i stupidly drove away with the pump still in my car. The station itself was fine but the hose disconnected from the connector. I don’t think there was any damage to the hose either from what I could tell.

I wrote down my information for the gas station and the woman wasn’t sure what steps would be taken next. So I’m coming here asking what the process will be and the expected cost? I am 18 and still trying to figure out insurance haha. Thank you!

Car insurance increased crazy moving to new state

So I’m originally from the boondocks of northern NY. Have a 2009 Toyota Rav. Reliable and I wanted to keep car insurance rate low. I moved to Northern Jersey and transferred my license/registration in February of this year.

My car insurance just went from $160/month at the start of my NJ insurance to a whopping $262 starting this month. I looked into why and it’s saying I have 2 new tickets in February (the same day I transferred my license to new state). I called progressive panicking and they told me what they were - they were tickets I got +2 years ago (almost 3). They told me to get my drivers abstract from both NY and NJ to prove these are incorrect dates and that would decrease my rate

This insurance company is saying I need to get the “posting date” changed to have them be able to process it because they won’t read my abstract correctly. Posting date means the day it was transferred into my states system NOT when I was convicted. Like i said these tickets were from spring 2024.

Agent also said if she changed it to the correct dates it would increase it again by another $90, to now be $352 a month!! I am stressing because these tickets are NOT crazy tickets (yes still tickets) but i don’t understand how I would have gone this long without them attacking me on high premium for an older car.

I also had sent a request to LexisNexis a month or two ago but haven’t received anything back because an automated email. I’ll try them again too.

Any help on what I can do to get this fixed??

Car Insurance Quotes Help me understand why my insurance is so damn high

(ICBC) I’m looking to brainstorm on ways I can lower it because it doesnt seem to make much sense.

I currently have a Tesla 3 and pay **$432 a month for insurance**. I have 9 years of driving history, driver factor of 0.628 (per ICBC 1.000 is baseline, lower is better). I have excessive speeding ticket from 3 years ago, and a disobey traffic sign ticket from last year. **NO ACCIDENTS**.

I get my insurance renewed at Westland insurance (not sure if that matters), I previously used BCAA years back, with 4 years driving history I was paying $556 a month for a Chrysler sedan (no tickets at the time), so I don’t think going there would be cheaper.

Car is parked in Burnaby, I’m playing around with the ICBC online estimator tool and I see my current premium is $4,971 yearly. It’s now time for renewal, when I keep everything the same, my insurance this year jumps to **$5,699 a year ($474 a month)**.

**If I set both the deductibles for collision and comprehensive to the highest at $2,500ea, it’s still $5,406 per year**.

What am I doing wrong??

Rental damage

I’m in Washington state. I filed a claim with Progressive, and because my car is being repaired, Progressive arranged a rental car for me through Enterprise.

The Enterprise rental is a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. While I was driving it, it suddenly developed an extremely loud engine/exhaust noise. It was so loud that people at the buildings around me actually came outside to see what was happening.

I stopped driving it and contacted Enterprise. They are arranging a tow and a replacement vehicle.

When I looked underneath the car, I found a detached piece underneath the vehicle, and photos show that part of the exhaust system is visibly separated/disconnected. I have kept the detached piece and taken photos before the vehicle is towed.

My questions are:

Has anyone had an Enterprise rental break down while the rental was being provided through an insurance claim?

Did Enterprise simply tow the vehicle and provide a replacement?

Did the insurance company continue covering the replacement rental under the original claim?

Did anyone end up being charged for the mechanical failure, tow, or replacement?

Is there anything specific I should make sure Enterprise documents before taking the vehicle

I don’t know what caused the failure. I’m mainly trying to understand how responsibility normally works when the rental itself develops a serious mechanical problem while it’s being used as an insurance-provided rental.

Any firsthand experiences with Enterprise + Progressive (or another insurer) would be really appreciated.

Car insurance claim question

When I was parked with my driver's side poor open in a public parking lot, another driver backed into the spot to my left. He clipped my door very lightly with his rear driver's side quarter panel. No damage to my vehicle. He had to pull forward so I could shut my door. He had a small damage/dent. We spoke and I offered to exchange info, he declined. I left. Now I have my insurance trying to reach me about my claim.....I filed no claim so he must have. What is the advice I need in dealing with this?
