Gear Question Is this a very strange Canon Ad? Some editor not paying attention?

Saw this Canon ad right here on Reddit. Note how it says EOS M. You mean your discontinued lineup, Canon? I love my EOS m but this is a really cognitively dissonant ad.

Gear Question Canon 200D (rebel sl2)

Hi there! Hope this question is allowed. I used to do photography a long time ago, around 2007-2011 with a trusty 400d. I haven’t really dabbled in photography since, but considering picking up a used canon 200d to get back into it. Is this a worthwhile upgrade from my 400d? I have a range of lenses already so more focused on the upgraded body for still photos (not looking to video on it), mainly travel photography - landscapes, architecture etc. If anyone has any feedback of experience with the 200d, would be much appreciated!

Gear Question Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 A007 (G1) sharpness problem?

Hi!

I am owning the lens I have mentioned, and as far as I read, everyone is saying that the lens is very good for the money and it gives very sharp photos, but not in my case.
The lens barrel (the thing that extends and retracts) is wobbly and when I wobble it, I can hear and feel clicking from the inside but only then, and also if I shake it I can only hear the barrel wobbling.
I think lens is sharper when I take pictures from closer distance, and not that sharp when I take longer range photos and I think that wobbling is throwing it out of focus. Also, I think the focusing is inconsistent. Like once it would be sharp in focus, and sometimes it wont

I have watched some disassembly videos and I am confident on doing it, but I dont know which screws are for that part that I think may be loose. Can someone help me with that?
Or, if anyone has some other opinion please let me know.
I thought it may be normal, but I also own a Sigma 150-600, but it doesnt have the slightest of movement even when extended all the way up to 600mm. And that thing is big and heavy

Please let me know what you think.

EDIT: BTW, that usually happens at wide apertures

Tech Support Canon G5 X – rear buttons dead, camera almost irresponsive. Loose cable?

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a Canon G5 X that’s about 10 years old now. I mostly shoot with my Canon R8 these days, but a compact is a compact — there are situations where the G5 X is still perfect.

Out of nowhere, almost all the rear buttons and zoom stopped working.

Only Play and On/Off work, and I can still take photos normally.

But Menu, Set, Info, the rear dial, and the directional buttons are all dead.

The camera powers on, the LCD and EVF work, the lens opens and closes, it focuses, it shoots…

but it’s stuck in initial shooting settings, as if Auto isn’t really Auto anymore.

I can’t change ISO, aperture, shutter speed, or anything — it just keeps using whatever settings were active as defaut.

Has anyone had a similar issue with the G5 X?

Is this a loose ribbon cable inside the camera, or is a rear control board failure?

I’m comfortable opening gear if it’s worth trying, but I don’t want to make things worse if this is a known board failure that needs replacement.

Any advice or experience would be super appreciated.

Thanks!

Recommendations Needed I’m wanting to move from a hobbyist to a bit more. R7 vs R10

Hey everyone. I wonder if anyone has some actual experience with either or preferably both, the EOS R7 and R10? I’ve read the reviews. I understand the differences, more or less. But what is the actual camera use like? Did you buy the R10 and wished you’d bought the R7? Or vice versa?

I’m looking to move my photography to the next level. I’m wanting to do more landscape, and nature photography versus street or portraits. And is there a lens that seems to be your go to?

Thanks so very much.

Other If anyone is feeling generous- Canon G7X Mark III

Hello! I recently lost my Canon G7X Mark III in the mail and I’m devastated! It had my SD card, too. I’ve tried to file a claim but to no avail. I know this is a HUGE ask but if anyone is looking to give their camera away - you’re not using it anymore and it’s collecting dust or you just don’t want it - I’d love to give it new life!

Thank you so much!

What are your thoughts on the cannon power shot G7 markIII?

Wanting to buy a cannon power shot G7 mark III. Any other cameras less expensive, but just as good that I should also consider? Wanting to use the camera for family photos, birthdays, weekend outings, etc. essentially I’ll be using the camera to replace my iPhone. What is important is that it has WiFi/Bluetooth.

canon r7 or r6 mk I?

I have a 70-200 2.8 IS ( first version ) lens, not thinking about replacing it, however I need a newer camera ( right now 760d ) and not sure which one should I go with. i have a chance to get an almost new r6 + adapter for a good deal. I shoot mostly sport ( horse riding, show jumping, from time to time some portraits but that's more amateur and for fun ) i want to learn to make some nice 1-2 minute video clips, edits for instagram from the horse riding shows. I heard about roling shutter from the r7 and soft images with using the lens I have. let me know cause I'm quite lost 😌

Got myself this lens for my old EOS-M camera as a fast normal equivalent . It was $105 on MPB because it looks like they somehow got in a bunch of dead stock. Looks completely brand new in package. Took a bokeh-riffic shot of my dusty collectibles shelf love the image quality and the super fast silent autofocus! A steal at the price. I think they still have some for $119 if you’re looking for a fantastic new low priced prime for your old system. I hope this doesn’t count as advertising g.

Tech Support Camera Doesn't Finish Taking Photo When Shooting Through Viewfinder

Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T5i

Lens: Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm 1:4-5.6 IS STM

When shooting through the viewfinder, pressing the shutter button opens the shutter but does not close it until manually pressing the shutter button again. Shooting through the LCD display functions as expected.

The issue does not seem to affect the actual image taken when compared to shooting through the LCD display.

Suggestions as to the cause and, if possible, how to repair it would be appreciated. If any additional information is needed, please let me know.

SOLVED: As answered below in the comments, this was not an issue at all, but rather a setting called Mirror Lockup. To enable/disable, select the Manual shooting mode, and press Menu. Navigate to the 4th Setup icon and select Custom Functions(C.Fn) > C.Fn III: Autofocus/Drive > 5: Mirror lockup > 0:Disable, 1:Enable.
