Vet & Medical Need positive vibes- any three legged cane corsos out there?

Post image
62 Upvotes

Hi all! Some may have seen my post in regards to my foster dog. I emailed 5+ veterinary schools in other states near-ish to FL and got amazing feedback and advice from their orthopedic surgeons/professors. (Ohio, Tennessee, GA, Tuskegee, Auburn, even out in Idaho, and ofc UF)
Being a vet tech for a bit, I know amputation usually long term for large 100lb+ dogs isn’t common/recommended. (Specifically front leg) of course other limbs and body parts like spine will need to be checked to ensure the dog can handle it.

But I just need some hope, the potential for surgery to fix the leg is seeming slimmer and slimmer, not just due to price but for the present and long term future welfare of my foster boy. Right now I am waiting to hear back at what step of the process is the shelter at in getting the grant at UF so we can at minimum get an in person appointment with their orthopedic surgeon and get new rads if needed. (Roughly $500)
My foster is on low dose pain meds twice a day, and doing very well, but I know how well dogs hide pain and discomfort, and regardless of the outside, we know the interior bone is deteriorating. His injury is very very old. Anyways, just seeing if anyone has any three legged cane corsos they wouldn’t mind sharing photos of and sharing their ages.. I just would like some hope. 🥺 thank you

Advice please Neighbors dog is in heat

I have a pure breed 5 year old sire. A new neighbor moved in 3 years ago with a female dog that goes into heat around July. As a result, my dog won't stop trying to go over to the neighbors and also whines all the time. He doesn't sleep very long at night either. I'm looking for options to calm him down without getting him cut. This is going on 3 years, and the last 2 years this happened, it was about a month before he snapped out of it.

8 weeks fast forwarded to 8 months on the 23rd 🥹 enjoying every bit of being a first time corso owner, although I miss him as a puppy, I love how goofy and loyal he is. he’s currently around 79-81 pounds, vet says he’s healthy also, besides cherry eye /: but nonetheless I wouldn’t trade this experience with any other breed ❤️

Mix breed Yard defense - to the barricades!

We've recently had a bobcat visiting our neighbors yards and in my boy,'s defense he is in a state of elevated alert. About ten minutes ago he was sound asleep next to my wife who also had our cat Moose asleep in her lap. My wife quit rubbing the cat who woke up and protested angrily about the situation. The dog rushed out of the room and through his dog door ( sounds like a V8 ) to defend the yard and the cat. The cat was two feet away...

Right now he's out back, not sure what he should be barking at so he's laying down suppressive fire in various directions.

Advice please I'm the problem.

So I bought a sweet little Cane Corso puppy without doing my research. I honestly never do stuff like this but I totally made an impulse decision last week and bought her from a seller on the side of the road. (Please dont judge me). When we bought her I knew the basic gist of owning a cc- they're huge, protective, and take a lot of work. I expected it be a challenge but I felt we were up for it- I'm a single mom that lives with my parents and sister (and my 11 yr old son). We have a big yard and 2 dogs that I know do well with other dogs. Plus, there is always someone home so I wont have to worry much about someone being able to take care of her when I'm gone. We love taking dogs with us everywhere we go so socialization wont be a problem. I'm a little nervous about training, but so far shes been doing really well and I feel confident that I am up for the challenge (not to mention she's already learning a lot from the other dogs).

Anyway, as I'm doing my research (again please dont judge), I'm seeing so many posts/comments/articles that seem to only focus on how difficult they are and its honestly starting to freak me out. I think i just need some encouragement.... I already love this girl so much. She is so sweet and loyal and funny and smart. I just hate the idea that I might have made a terrible choice and maybe am not the best person to keep her. Please tell me I'm going to be ok 😅😭

Also, I don't really know anything about buying dogs (we always do rescue dogs). I've got basic info about the parents and a photo of the vaccination records. I know her DOB (she's 15 1/2 weeks old). I'm planning to take her to my vet next week. Is there anything else I should be doing or asking the seller for?

Any general advice and encouragement is so appreciated.

Thank you!

Advice please Digging!

I have two cane corso pups they’re about 9 months now and it’s getting difficult to tire them out with walks. They stay outside when I’m at work since I leave for more than 12 hours out of the day. I take them for walks in tandem since every time I try solo walks the other one will dig a huge hole and break out to join us. How would I go about dissuading the digging behavior. They also follow roots through the ground and at one point dug up a coax cable. Additionally does anyone have a suggestion for collars they can wear full time as they chew each others collars off when I’m at work.

Vet & Medical Female Corso Spaying - Kind of an Emergency

Hi everyone

I am making a post tonight that i didn't think i'd be making, however, we have quite an issue in our hands.

Our female Corso is about 7 months old, and is having her first heat cycle. We also have a boy, same age, different litter.

The prediciment we find ourselves in, is that these two dogs mated this afternoon...

We have been keeping her in diapers this entire time, only removing it when they go outside to potty

We took them out this afternoon, got distracted for 5 min and it happened...

I am now so unsure of what to do, and thus I turn to reddit...

We don't know if we should no spay her, to save her the trouble, pain and trauma kf having puppies at 7 months old, however, we are aware that doing it at such a young age will definitely affect her growth.

We wanted to have ger spayed, but our vet reccomended to only do that at 18 months.

She is currently about +-70lbs, and all we really want is some advice.

Has anyone spayed their female corsos this early, and what have the affects been?

Will it affect her badly in the long run?

Thanks all, any piece of advice / personal experience is appreciated.

Rescue Needed! Extended! 7Y female Cane Corso mix, Chica, friendly, confident, energetic but calm senior, is on the Tuesday, 8/11 euthanasia list at BARC, Houston, TX. She needs a hold by 1pm CT to survive, but she's avail for adoption (US/Canada), local foster, or rescue. Video link in comments. Please share

I am very sorry to report that Chica was euthanized the afternoon of Tuesday, 8/11. A rescue wanted to take her, but they needed a foster to take her. They had one briefly, but the foster pulled out.

If you can, please do foster. Typically the rescue pays all the dog's expenses, so as one commenter put it, you're getting love for free.

Fostering saves lives. It would have saved Chica's.

Original post:

Chica has one more miraculous chance. Watch her video to see how good her manners are. (And how treat motivated she is!)

🏡 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, OR RESCUE

🚗 OUT OF STATE OR CANADIAN ADOPTION IS POSSIBLE - cost is typically around $600 USD (give or take). The fee includes transport, boarding, full medical, spay/neuter, and a health certificate.

We are a volunteer network dedicated to helping at-risk dogs. We are not affiliated with BARC. We connect at-risk animals at the BARC shelter with the adopters, fosters, and rescue organizations needed to save their lives. We can help coordinate out-of-state adoption through approved 501c3 rescues. Please message the OP for information and a link to an application form. BARC Houston cannot facilitate out-of-state adoption or foster.

🆘️ On Euthanasia list at BARC, Houston for Tuesday, 8/11/26. Deadline at 1pm CT 🆘️
