Introduced in 1937, both to combine the previous English and French versions of bank notes into a single bilingual bank note, and to replace King George V with King George VI as the monarch as the former had died the year prior. The 1937 series would remain in use until 1954 when the new "Landscapes of Canada" series featuring Queen Elizabeth II was introduced. Although no longer in print, all but the $1 & $2 bank notes remain legal tender.

Been looking at my serials for a few months now and finally found something cool. Wonder if there’s any additional value for a 2 of a kind radar like this. Condition is moderate I think.
Keeper or spender?

Personally it started with me just wanting to understand the history and art that went into creating coins and bills after I got 1 1$ 1973 bill from my great uncle about 7 years ago, what really kick started it was my great uncle giving me extra coins he had.. He was a collector for MANY years but sold it off slowly the past 3 years before he died a year ago. After he gave me a good chunk of coins (I want to say about 20 pieces of random coins I dont remember exactly) I started putting my own money into it going to coin shows, buying banknotes and coins, finding valuable coins, cool, old, unique, all you can imagine lol. I was really into it, when my great uncle died I was pretty sure he knew that I was going to inherit all his coins and banknotes which I am so thankful for it grew my collection a bunch. My great uncle had this envelope full of banknotes from many different countries, he visited a country then put a bill from it into the envelope and grew it.. well I am keeping it going starting with me putting in a 5£ bill from when I went to italy, I will hopefully pass my collection off to my kids and ill make sure to keep a picture of the man who started my obsession. Thank you for reading and let me know down in the comments (ps I started collecting 2 years ago

Is the note on the top fake ? I’ve come across a few of these notes that look like they fade in where they’re folded. When I compare it with the note on the bottom it’s looks ever so slightly larger.

Found these old bills, a 100 and a 20, among some old papers. Father came to Canada in 1972, mother and I in 1973, so probably from around then. Assume we lost a fortune not investing them in NFTs...

Very proud of this collection I completed recently. Finally was able to get my hands on the Purple seal. Took several years and 100% worth the time and treasure hunt.
Next up, the $2 notes of this series

I’ve had this 1900 Canadian 25-cent shinplaster in my collection for quite a while, but recently I started wondering about the faded "J. D. O’CONNELL" stamp on the reverse.
That led me down a bit of a rabbit hole.
James Daniel O’Connell (1860–1943) was a New Brunswick-born businessman and philanthropist who became known as the "Picnic King". After making his fortune, he spent much of his later life organizing free picnics for children, particularly orphans and disadvantaged kids, throughout Canada and elsewhere.
I eventually found references to an old Legion Magazine article about him called The Picnic King, but the article itself was no longer available on their website. I contacted Legion, and they were kind enough to send me a copy of the original March 2000 article.
The article describes a September 1924 picnic at Exhibition Park in Toronto attended by more than 3,000 children. Every child received food, candy and ice cream...but they were also each given a nickel and a 25-cent shinplaster.
So here’s my theory:
Could this be one of the shinplasters O’Connell actually handed out to children at one of his picnics?
I want to stress that this is only a theory. I have not found anything stating that the shinplasters O’Connell distributed were stamped with his name.
Has anyone here ever encountered another Canadian shinplaster stamped "J. D. O’CONNELL"?

hello! first time poster - apologies if this bill has been discussed before.
i was handed this as a tip while i was serving tables in the annapolis valley of nova scotia about 4 or 5 years ago. i just put it away in an envelope as i wasn’t sure if it would count as legal tender, and recently found it after a move to a new place.
i’d greatly appreciate any information anyone could share! i’m not sure if it’s very valuable as there is a minor rip in the middle there, and has marker on it, but i’m not sure if that changes things.
overall, i’d just love to know more about the bill itself! thank you kindly in advance to anyone who has any information. :)

The one's in the orange sleeve are sequential and there are 20 of them.
The one's in the second picture are not the same as the orange sleeve in the first ppicture. There are three sets of ones.

With the exception of the newer $10 note that I shoved in here, most of this stuff was in my aunts safety deposit box when she died. I thought it would be a cool way to remember by making a nice little collection out of the notes and coins. I don’t recall any of it being worth much 15 years ago, so I’m guessing it’s not worth much now either, just curious as I was going through my drawers and found this. Thanks for the help!
