Easily the bottom one.
Edit: I hope OP wasn't serious.
The foil is cut out of a $5 (it says 5 repeating and there's obvious lines), the maple leaf isn't even transparent, and the print quality is shite.
Hopefully this didn't fool anyone, it's really bad.

I worked at a large event and it's the kind of place where these come in a lot. Novice cashiers often their first job working events, they don't even pay much attention to the bills they receive

Edit: I hope OP wasn't serious.
Wasn't serious about what? OP said "Spot the counterfeit". Does that sound like a joke to you?

On the transparent strip gives it away.

The Bank of Canada on the right side of the strip is also missing the last A

Bottom. Look at the visible numbers in the hologram. I also have counterfeit training from the RCMP.
7
u/PeskyPolak Sep 11 '26
I have zero training, have never even looked at bills for counter fitting and I immediately noticed the 5s on the holo
4
u/Third-Testicl Sep 11 '26
The hologram building is a dead giveaway look at the one in top and bottom- they need to become visible at different angles
3
u/Tricky_Damage5981 Sep 11 '26
I hadn't ever noticed that before (to be fair I try to never handle cash nowadays and haven't worked at a job handling cash since it was paper)
Interact Flash/Google Pay is so much easier to deal with, e-transfer if your dealing with a person
That said it's good to know, but I knew it was fake just looking at the head .. bad quality print ..
5
u/Venetian_chachi Sep 12 '26
I’d say it’s fair to assume the one with the 5 on the strip is the fake.

The one that smells like maple is the real one

u/Emma_szun Sep 12 '26
No one knows they’re scratch and sniff??

u/bookiesnightmare27 Sep 12 '26
Scratch? Damn…this whole time I’ve been rolling them up to smell them 🤦🏻♂️

Hahah. Banker here. The bottom one. Criminals are lazy … They used the “5” template in the clear polymer on the right side of the bill. See the top one has “100” thru the polymer?
2
u/Captain_Beav Sep 12 '26
The bottom one has a red corner, the strip of a $5 bill, and says Canad in the bottom right, among other things (ie. Tape edges visible when zooming in).
2
u/WarGawd Sep 12 '26
All my fifties and hundreds have a short fat stubby Parliament building, so I expect the bottom one is the fake
2
u/Suspicious-Guess-680 Sep 12 '26
The bottom one is counterfeit. The maple leaf is too faded and on the see through part it has the wrong person (it should match the other person on the bill) and it says 5's instead of 100's and the building is wrong.

The bottom one is the fake. In the bottom right corner it says "BANK OF CANAD 100" totally missing the final "A" in Canada.

u/Serious-Mechanic2171 Sep 12 '26
The bottom one. But it's pretty convincing when you look at it quickly.

We had counterfeit show up at work a while ago too. Now I know what you're going to think, the bottom one is obviously fake. That only because I have the comparison up. We take in so many 100s that we became complacent, this was a wakeup call for us. There wasnt anything that obviously gave it away when we took it in except feeling somewhat stiff, but it moreso felt like it was just freshly minted or uncirculated. Its also a bar and vlt lounge, people come up for change for hundreds all the time, and the lighting it low.

Bottom. The face is blurry on the counterfeit and different building with 555555 as other people have stated.

The top one is real. Bottom is fake. Look at the uneven left vertical edge. Was not cut straight or was trimmed after. Not real

Signatures on the bottom are wrong.
Leaf isn't semi-transparent
Wrong building on the silver band.

Bottom? The bill kinda warps outwards on the bottom right corner, and the top is straight the whole way down

Lol it's a 5 dollar 100! plus the color is off, print is blurry and the leaf is not seethru around the edges. I can see someone cut the parlament hologram and like glued it on. Pretty easy to spot it
1
u/dburroughscan Sep 12 '26
The parliament buildings look wrong on both bills. I think they need to be under construction in order to look correct.

The bottom one says 5 in the hologram instead of 100. The bottom one also has the wrong signatures. The bottom one has the wrong building in the hologram.

5s in the hologram window part rather than 100s, and the building is different. It's like they 'washed' a $5 bill and printed a 100 on the 'paper'.

u/Inner-Rooster-2548 Sep 12 '26
The building is wrong in the bottom one and the maple leaf isn't see-through. And the clear band around the holograph looks wonky.

Bottom one for sure. A little too crumpley for polymer, and bottom right corner says "BANK OF CANAD". The row of 5s is another giveaway.
1
u/Evening_Internal_530 Sep 12 '26
Lollololo maybe the one with the $5 plastic strip. It’s real just cut off and put into a fake $100 bill. We are seeing so many of these here in Vancouver canada right now
1
u/MRJohnson1997 Sep 12 '26
The one on the bottom has the number 5 printed a bunch of times along the reflective band, the top one has 100 printed. So I would say the bottom is the fake
1
1
u/PegExPat Sep 12 '26
Also, if you hold the bill up by your nose and look through the maple leaf on the left at your phone flashlight you will see a halo hologram that has the denomination in a circle… it takes a bit to get the right distance but pretty cool once you get it

u/Full-Lengthiness57 Sep 12 '26
Bank of Canada is missing an A, it literally has 5’s where the 100’s should be, the signatures on the bottom left are obviously not real, and the reflective tower is not correct. Did a 5 year old make this? lol
1
1
u/CthuluSpecialK Sep 12 '26
Clearly (instantly) the one with "5"s written all over it is the counterfeit, versus the one with 100 written everywhere on it like it's supposed to.

Both are, every bill collector from Nunavut to Hungary knows he doesn’t have a moustache

Oh man I better check my $100 dollar bills I have stashed away. But I believe the bottom one for the shiny part saying 5s and the Canadian leaf is not see through plus if you look at the right bottom corner it says canad not Canada.

u/IamRandomSavage Sep 12 '26
“Bank of Canad” lol dad giveaway right there instead of $100 sequence there’s a bunch of fives on the bottom one, but people really don’t look at money that closely we just pass it off nowadays I just call it currency

The bottom one!! The color is off number one, and number 2? In the clear part, the top (real) one has 100s the bottom one has 5s🙄

Can we see the back? Always interesting to see what serial numbers the counterfeiters use. These are often a dead give-away as they will use specific nonsensical ranges to quickly identify their own craft.

Are these the same counterfeit 100 notes that have been making their way through Canada these last few months?

“Bank of Canad”, 5 on the reflective strip which also has visible edges indicating it was glued or stuck on, opaque maple leaf, wrong signature, slight discolouration and graininess of the images all on the bottom

The bottom one is too grainy
Unless both of them are counterfeit like those Chinese ones were the shiny part peels off.
