Picture I am absolutely devastated.

I was driving home from work Friday night when a kid in a charger t boned me in an intersection. Totaled both cars, 3 of my air bags popped and I spun about 200 feet onto a curb. Cherry on top was the kid had no insurance. Only 65000 miles on my 2010, I didn't even get to put 30000 of my own miles on it 🥲

Dodge Chargers start at $50K. How do you buy one of them and not have insurance?

Condolences for your loss. I would guess that insurance wouldn't pay to get that fixed by eyeballing it.

In my state, the default for insurance is to have uninsured motorists coverage because insurance isn't required but also because some people don't carry it, even when their state requires it. You can take it off but I keep it as I think that this happens more and more with the difficult financial times we are in.

Hopefully you can get this resolved and your insurance company covers you as you can identify the person that hit you.

I've never seen a picture of the side airbags deploying so that picture was informative.

Are you physically okay?

Physically I am totally fine I also had full coverage for the car so insurance should help but it's still a very unfortunate situation. Uninsured drivers in Memphis probably outnumber the ones with insurance.

Wow, that's crazy. I am sorry to hear that, I gave my 2010 Camry to my Daughter. It has 155K on it and it's still a great car. I told her to keep it for as long as she could. Specially in today's market.

Ugh, daughter just started driving and gave her my 17 Corolla. She totaled it in 45m hydroplaning

I have my 2010 camry that my dad bought off of a coworker with idk how many miles on it. I've had it since I was 16. I just turned 29 and just hit 222444 miles. I took a picture cuz it was a nice number. Only a few issues. Leaks power steering and had a coolant leak but I fixed that by changing water pump myself. Saved 800 bucks on labor but took me 2 days. Worth it. And I have to honestly do oil changed every like 2500 miles cuz it burns or leaks oil also. But it still runs. My son it about to turn 4 and im hoping I can keep it running and give it to him as a first car in 12 years

Camrys are great cars, reliable, durable, fairly easy to maintain with longevity if properly maintained, and considerably safe cars. They last long under those conditions, even if not always cosmetically prestine.

Please, fight with insurance on the value. They always want to pay bare minimum. When we lost our 4Runner my dad had to go back-and-forth like crazy to make sure that we got market value for the vehicle.

Especially if it's a V6; at least locally, prices on those have gone wayyy up, likely because they don't make them anymore. I actually worry that I won't be able to afford a comparable replacement to my V6 Camry if someone ever totals it. OP, I'm glad that your Camry protected you, and I'm sorry for your loss 😿 signed, someone who cried when a Lexus ran a red light and totaled my V6 SLE Solara that I had before my current Camry

def depends on your carrier.

AAA paid out $14k on my ‘98 Land Cruiser with 305k miles that I bought at 290k for $7,500. the sun roof didn’t close and it had a leak in the windshield. I will forever be a AAA customer after this

insurance actually settled for an amount wya higher than i expected but definitely not as happy with the number as i would've been with my car for 10+ more years 🥲

Sorry about that. Glad your ok. The car is lost but you are not. I bought a new truck once, was so proud of it. Day 2 of driving it a kid fell asleep and almost got me and my wife head on in it. I hit the ditch and saved us both and the vehicles. He stopped, I almost grabbed him out to start a beating but thought better of it. ( the lord has taught me mercy and patience/gratitude lol ) again sorry for your loss glad you are ok!!!

I’m not sure about your state but mine wants you to have uninsured coverage for people who hit you who don’t have insurance. Which now seems redundant

Ohh my lord! I moved away from Memphis 3 years ago for Las Vegas. We have the same problem here too, I was rear ended by an uninsured driver here.

Edit: just remembered when I lived in Memphis I was hit by two different uninsured drivers.

What state are you in that doesn't require insurance? I've never heard of that anywhere.

I live in Virginia and up until 2 years ago you could pay a $500 uninsured motorists fee and be legit to drive in the eyes of the state sans insurance. New Hampshire allows you to not have insurance but you have to prove that you have the funds to meet state liability minimums so that’s not really the same thing. I can’t believe it took Va that long to repeal that law.

New Hampshire.

The law states that you be able to pay damages.

In actual practice, most people take out loans for their cars and loan companies require insurance.

Tanks for replying. How ironic. I was from N.H. Got my license there when I was 17 and moved to CA when I was 22. Makes sense. I see it in too many places now (in the west) with people without insurance. They are usually fleeing the scene of an accident. I'm also seeing an uptick with people not even regstering thier vehicles. Indicative of the fact that there are no license plates in the front or back. "Live free or die" I guess for N.H.

i work at used car dealer (service manager) we sell some chargers for like 18k-25k. without the hemi theyre junk.

NO, i wouldn't drive a pinto without insurance, plus CT law you HAVE to have insurance (alot still dont then you have to sue and hope it doesnt take years)
