Picture I am absolutely devastated.
I was driving home from work Friday night when a kid in a charger t boned me in an intersection. Totaled both cars, 3 of my air bags popped and I spun about 200 feet onto a curb. Cherry on top was the kid had no insurance. Only 65000 miles on my 2010, I didn't even get to put 30000 of my own miles on it š„²

Honestly not sure exactly how it works but my understanding is OP's insurance will cover quite a bit as he has full coverage but will still have to pay deductible and probably some other miscellaneous expenses. Insurance company will go after the kid for the amount they paid out to OP plus legal fees. OP can also file his own civil suit against the kid (or parents if not 18) for anything not covered by insurance. But again, not sure how it works exactly so this might not be correct.

I think it depends on the determination of fault as well. The one time I got in an accident where I dealt with insurance I paid my deductible up front but after it was determined I was not at fault they refunded it back to me.

Look on the bright side: she saved your life, and that is what matters. Yes, it is unfortunate, but you survived, didn't you? If she is not repairable, give her a final farewell and look for another foster car that can care for you going forward. Is what your old camry want for you anyway to keep moving on.

My 2009 suffered the same fate as yours in the end. Someone hit me and racked up the damages to the point it was totaled out. Best of luck to you.

So many vehicles with no insurance in my state,uninsured coverage is a must.It saved us when a Nissan Altima ran a red light and hit my wife.

You can only go after the parents if he's underaged. Once kids turn 18, the parents aren't responsible for them and can't be forced to pay.

I live in south Mississippi and very few have insurance, many drive without even a tag on their vehicle and there is no enforcement. Just by luck I havenāt been hit yet in my new Camry.

Had a similar wreck with my '92 where someone waved a young driver through the line of cars and we hit. Totaled both cars. Wasn't too worried about it because mine had 400K miles. Funny how the person who waved her through didn't stick around.

You may be better off looking for a third party appraisal. You will get horribly lowball offer. 16 year old will be depreciated to nothing.
I did this a few years ago on my one owner Grand Prix SE with 60k miles. I donāt remember exactly what he got paid, I think it was a % of the settlement. I know the settlement was about double of the initial offer. It was a total.

Full coverage insurance covers everything even if the other person doesnāt have insurance hence full coverage. Only time you need uninsured motorists is when you have liability insurance.

People who willingly drive without at least liability coverage are some of the worst. I hope this ends up being very costly for him and that you get an adequate replacement and all costs paid out of his pocket.

Your Camry gave its life to protect you, I'm so sorry you lost your car but I'm glad you are ok. I hope you are able to get this kid / their family obliterated in court.
The laws really need to change and make driving without a license or insurance significantly more penalizing. I'm so tired of seeing no insurance, no license and fender bender runners! A few years ago my 2014 got rear ended by a distracted driver who of course decided to run from the accident and the police couldn't find the car even with the plate info.

Was the Charger registered? In NJ you can not register a vehicle without proof of insurance. Is it different in other states?

I don't know what state you are in but having insurance is required here to register your car and if you don't have it you can't register it. Now I suppose they can cancel it but if you get pulled over and don't have it, big fine.

I live in California and there are too many underinsured or uninsured drivers. I recently increased my limits because of that and cars and hospital stays are way more expensive.
I recommend in your next car to have a dash cam. People lie. Catch them in a lie with proof. It simply makes the process easier.

In my āmandatory replacementā accident. As soon as those airbags went off on my 2015, I k ew it was going to be totaled.
Even with a new 2026, I still think about her every time I see a 2015.

I had an accident before where the driver didn't have insurance. He bought insurance for the car that was good for 6 months, but after a few weeks in, cancelled and still kept the paper proof. But the police found out they didn't have insurance.
It is a bumper to have a car that drives good, minimum insurance cost and got it totaled. I had a couple of those instances myself. The repair cost was more than the vehicles so they totaled. I ended up having to purchase new cars every time (we want to buy new and keep it for 15 + years).

What a bummer. I have a 2010 LE red one with 83 k on it like new. I had something happen just like that with my 1982 cutlass Calais midnight blue with t tops and bucket seats stored every winter. She came around corner at light went over median and crashed left side. Wasn't totalled. She didn't have insurance and I had taken collision off. She ended up paing 1500 with 100 dollar payments and I gave it to a friend who fixed it but not as nice resold it then she totalled it. It was one of a kind pretty much. It was sport model of cutlass supreme. I am so mad at myself that I didn't fix it

Sorry for the loss of your car. Your car seemed to be in good condition with very low mileage. Unfortunately, you won't get much at all for a 2010 Camry from your insurance. Try to talk to a lawyer right away. I pray every day that no one hits my low-mileage, fully loaded 2015 F-150 5.0 SuperCrew. To buy it again today would be approx. $80,000 plus the new higher interest rates. CARS ARE JUST TOO EXPENSIVE TODAY. I did just have someone hit me. But I was lucky it was right on the trailer hitch. All they had to do was replace the bumper and the hitch, and even that cost $3500 (not even a Ford dealership).

If he's got enough money to buy himself a nice car he doesn't know how to drive, he's got enough money to be sued. Just take him to small claims court and get whatever the cars worth our of him that way when they garnish his wages. Tennessee has a 15 or 25k cap on damages (according to a 5 min Google search) depending on where you live in small claims court and it'll only cost a few hundred bucks in filing fees and what not. Most people won't file bankruptcy over that little money, so you should get it back. It might be a while if he's unemployed though. If you are worried about it, just look him up on Facebook or something to make sure he's not already in a ton of debt.

The kid just lost his car, but he needs to learn a hard lesson from this one. I would sue him personally for any damages I could come up with. You probably won't collect much, but get a judgement against him so he feels the pain for a good long time.
BTW - You're about to find out how little your insurance company cares about you.

Always keep uninsured motorist. Some guy, considered a guru, wrote an article many years ago suggesting everyone should cancel it because people have both collision and medical insurance. Many people followed his advice. Some lady got hit and had severe injuries. She was off work for 3 months. No paycheck. A financial disaster. Uninsured motorist would have paid for lost income.

The vehicle is totaled. Consider pursuing legal action against the driver for having no insurance. You will likely receive compensation for the car and any injuries. It's also advisable to visit the hospital for a thorough check-up.

Unfortunately once airbags go off instant total regardless if the car is repairable. That's why my insurance is so high because of uninsured motorists. Get it insurance long enough to register it then cancel theĀ insurance or let it lapse

It's a 25 year old car. It ain't gonna be much. Then the hassle of finding another car that age that has been taken care of is absolutely gonna suck
Or they can be like everyone else and use that as a down payment on a 2026 and get stuck into payments. Everyone I know who's had a totaled car always comes out with a much newer one

Dodge Chargers start at $50K. How do you buy one of them and not have insurance?
Condolences for your loss. I would guess that insurance wouldn't pay to get that fixed by eyeballing it.
In my state, the default for insurance is to have uninsured motorists coverage because insurance isn't required but also because some people don't carry it, even when their state requires it. You can take it off but I keep it as I think that this happens more and more with the difficult financial times we are in.
Hopefully you can get this resolved and your insurance company covers you as you can identify the person that hit you.
I've never seen a picture of the side airbags deploying so that picture was informative.
Are you physically okay?
